Yu Cheng Sugar-cane OK Aug 30, 2011

Sweet sweet sugar.

Sweet sweet sugar.

Who could deny a cool, sweet and soothing cup of sugar-cane on a hot day? Even if it is only plain calories that it gives, it's not going to deter me from having this one cup. $1.20 per cup. A sure sign of inflation. How long ago was it when sugar cane juice was only $0.80?

Sugar-cane was never my choice of beverage, especially not in the hawker centre. I was always fearful of the unhygienic way of handling and storing the sugarcane. The sugarcane seller used to rest their long sugarcane on the dirty floor. Sugarcane being porous, would suck the dirty water up like a straw. But, now-a-days, this problem was rectified by using shorter sugarcane and storing them in a box or on the rack.

This stall was clean, as far as I could see. So I decided to get a cup. Sweet, of course, what else can sugar taste like. Refreshing, needless to say. The only setback was that it was in a plastic cup, not the big glass mug. The stall also sell fresh fruit juices at $2 - $3 per cup.

Fishball Noodle Smile Aug 30, 2011

Other than coffee, my other favourite is fishball. I grew up with fishballs everyday. There was a very nice fishball noodle in Pek Kio Food Centre that I ate since young, but unfortunately the seller ended the stall due to health issue. Since than I have been searching for a fishball noodle that is comparable to that.
When I went to People's Park, I was not sure what to eat, so I went to this Teochew Bakso to order a bowl of fishball noodle. There was no queue even though it was noon. The noodle came in a normal bowl, but the soup bowl was unique, it's oval and bigger than usual. I forgot to tell them not to put the too much oil, so it turned out to be too oily. But the fishball was bouncy and delicious. The unique taste of Singaporean fishball. Yummi.smile
The stall owners were not very friendly though.

Little Jerry's Cookies

Little Jerry's Cookies

Next to the Maloevera, the unique fruit stall, was this 'Little Jerry's Cookies' stall. There were two glass display cabinets, the one on the right has various selection of cookies and the one on the left were full of muffins. All yummy looking. My kid was dying to have some. I selected the 'Rainbow Joy'; chocolate chips cookies with M&M chocolate. 100gm for $4.20. There were only 7 pieces only, about 5cm diameter each.

It's not fragrant as 'Famous Amos'. But the plus point is that it didn't have the sweet aftertaste like most sweet cookies. I don't really like the sweetness that lingers in the month after eating sweet stuffs. So these cookies would be a better choice for me over 'Famous Amos'.

Birthday cake Smile Jul 31, 2012

It's the once a year special day for my son again. Last year we ordered a designed cake from Awfully Chocolate, at Cluny Court for him. This year, unfortunately, the one at Cluny Court has closed down. Initially, I planned to go to the one at Vivo city to make my order but I found this branch by accident during one of my shopping night. I realised this branch was more convenient for me as I would be around this area on the day of collection.

This time round, I ordered this normal 1kg original chocolate cake.

Ever so lovely. Ever so good. The rich chocolate and soft cake. Smooth and melt in the mouth. smile
Sightly over $50 per kg, pretty dear.

Japanese-Italian Fusion Smile Jul 19, 2012

Categories : Italian | Japanese | Fusion

I thought I was crazy to drive all the way to Changi City Point from the West just to have lunch with a group of my friends who stays in the East. This place was highly recommended by one of them. This was the first time that I come to this place and I couldn't find the entrance to the carpark of this building because of the construction going on in its vicinity. I was really not in a very good mood when I reached the restaurant, due to the road hoggers on the way and the circling around to get into the carpark.mad

My appetite was greatly affected but I still ordered a Vongole Aglio Olio set out of obligation. The set came with a soup and a one-time serving at the salad bar.

When I looked at the items on the salad bar, it didn't interest me at all. But since I already ordered it, I just took what seemed acceptable to me.

This was what I have gotten. All my friends said that I should take more, like pile the bowl up to a mountain. But that was really not my style. When I took a bite into the salad in the bowl, I regretted not taking more. Even though they weren't the usual type of food that I would eat, they were good especially the radish, very chunchy. The sesame sauce that I added tickles my appetite. The sweetness of the lychee lifted my sunken mood. All the frustration I had on the way was instantly remove. smile

The miso soup was light and pleasant, not like those in the Sushi chain that have strong salty miso taste.

The vongole aglio olio was delicious too, better than those Italian restaurants of a similar price range. But it's a little too oily for me though. As usual, not enough clams for me.tongue
The nett price of this set was $17.20. They do have other type of set combinations and they really have a good selection of various types of pasta.
The restaurant was packed with lunch time working crowd. It's better to come early before lunch time if you intend to try it out.
