Hot Tomato is a safe choice if you're craving for affordable, good Western food. I usually order the steak & pasta combo but this time round I wasn't feeling that hungry.

Instead, I tried the barramundi and prawn with olive rice. It's pretty filling and the barramundi was pretty well prepared - crispy skin on the outside, fresh smooth fish meat on the inside. They could've given more prawns, maybe one more, but oh well. Olive rice was a little dry but hey, it's olive rice. Can't expect much for truly healthy food right?

Rare find of good dessert pies Smile Apr 22, 2013

I'd been hearing a lot about Windowsill Pies but this one's pretty out of the way so it took me a while to actually decide to make my way here.

This pie place is located right opposite the Jalan Besar Stadium. The interior/decor is super duper cute. I felt like I was in some dollhouse because of the fake pine trees and wooden furniture.

We ordered three pies ($7+ each) to share (they put it on a tray for you if you're sharing). The left one is caramel chocolate, middle is strawberry lemon and the one on the right is the cherry pie.

I can't decide if caramel choc was my fav, or the cherry. I loved both. However, my least fav was the strawberry lemon - way too sour!

I'm definitely coming back for more - it's a good place to for some serious chilling out.

One of the better outlets Smile Apr 17, 2013

I'm a big fan of ThaiExpress but I realise that there is a difference in standards when you compare outlets in terms of service and food. They should really do something about this inconsistency...

Anyway, I love the CityLink outlet because it's usually quite quiet and cosy. The staff are pretty attentive (although they are a tad bit slow in refilling water) and the food is a lot better compared to the other outlets at Plaza Sing and Marina Square.

We ordered the prawn cakes for our appetiser. Piping hot and super tasty, these were fantastic and went really well with the accompanying chilli dip.

I had pad thai for a change and requested for chicken pad thai instead. Not too oily - just right!

Lastly, the same ol' dessert that's always a hit and miss - the mango sticky rice. I think they make a pretty decent one at ThaiExpress, but at some outlets... you get the drift. This time, it was pretty all right. I asked for extra coconut sauce (they tend to be a bit stingy about it) and they were quite generous with it. Cute presentation - reminded me of an Angry Bird haha.

Once again I ended up lunching at Far East Plaza. Everyone knows you can find dirt cheap food here and one of my fav places is Tasty Treats on the top floor. This store serves a wide variety of dishes, from curry chicken to claypot rice and even Western dishes like chicken cutlet.

I come here whenever I'm craving for duck and I usually order the duck drumstick. It is slightly pricey ($6 instead of $4+) but considering you won't be chewing on tiny bits of bone, it's worth it. Also, the noodle version is just as good as the rice version.

This time we ordered an additional plate of roasted pork belly to share. This was $5. Pretty average - nothing very special about it.

The only complaint I have about this place is the poor ventilation. After your meal you'll end up smelling like roast duck or some sort of meat!

I escaped to Verre after a less than memorable dinner/drink session at Bar Bar Black Sheep nearby. It was already pretty late (10ish) and my friends and I were looking for a place with air-conditioning to relax and indulge in desserts. Lots of restaurants nearby were already closed so that's how we stumbled upon Verre.

We were attracted to the place because it was so quiet and slightly posh-looking. To our surprise, when we looked at the menu outside, the prices were very, very reasonable. $9 for chocolate lava cake. I was like "OKAY LET'S GO IN."

First impressions count and I could already tell service was great. The crew's very attentive and were constantly topping up our glasses with cold water from the moment we sat down at this giant couch area at the corner (lovely spot!!).

As I mentioned, we were here primarily for desserts. We all basically ordered x1 each (greedy I know). We had x3 choc lava cakes, x2 banana nutella thingy (for the life of me I can't remember what it's called) and x1 red fruit creme brulee.

The banana nutella treat was basically a mishmash of both ingredients, the banana came in cubes and topped the nutella mixture below. I only had a mouthful but I thought it was a pretty "healthy", light dessert compared to the rest.

The creme brulee was a real surprise. I'm not usually a fan of this dessert, but they made it so well here. It's perfectly done and it's not too creamy to stomach. Comes with bits of strawberries and is just the right amount of sweet. Consistency was fab!

Last but not least, the choc lava cake was actually very decent. I've had worse variations (where I had to pay a muchhhh higher price) so this was a pleasant surprise. The vanilla ice cream sits on this bed of crumbled biscuits - something a little different which I appreciated.

I peeked at the mains while ordering desserts and they all looked really tempting... think I'll be back for a nice dinner one day!
