Categories : Hainanese | Chicken Rice

I love chicken rice (I mean... who doesn't) but in my opinion, NOBODY makes better chicken rice than the one here at the top floor of Far East Plaza.

It's easy to spot, really. It's the old-school-looking stall with a big, bright yellow signboard with a longgggg queue almost anytime of the day. But not to worry, the queue moves quite fast because most of the time, people end up having to share tables with other patrons (which can get quite awkward but if you frequent the place you'll get used to it).

I come here almost every month since I work nearby. My colleagues and I usually polish off a plate of half chicken, and at times, a whole chicken if we're REALLY hungry.

Our favourite is the traditional steamed chicken. They make it sooo differently here, I can't quite put my finger on it though. Maybe it's the tenderness of the meat, or the smoothness of the skin. Or perhaps it's the super tasty sauce, which I love drenching the cucumbers in (I don't even like vegetables!). The rice is also a real winner, and the chilli? I've never tasted better! It's so awesome and spicy! I can't even begin to describe how delish the soup is too... as you can see, this stall has the whole package, the chicken, the rice, the soup, the chilli... everything is perfecto! Please do yourself a favour and give this a try. You won't regret it! lol

Kopi crab... for realz!! Smile Mar 28, 2013

Majestic Bay is great for seafood and whatnot... but what many aren't aware of is that on their menu, there's a coffee-cooked crustacean!

Kopi crab is a weird dish and I was lucky enough to give it a try. First they pour all sorts of sauces and liquids all over it and then they flambé it at your table. It's a cool sight.

I thought the taste needed some getting used to. Tasted a lot like caramel popcorn if you ask me... it's definitely something new. Give it a go!

Loola's Brownie is to die for! Smile Mar 28, 2013

This was my nth visit to Loola's and this time, I was there solely for desserts. My friends and I each ordered our own and for me, the decision was a no-brainer. I had Loola's Brownie.

The reason why I love this brownie so much is that it's super moist. You wouldn't believe how fudgy it is! The quality is top-notch and the best part is that in between, you will find a layer of salted caramel. Fabulous!

Fab desserts at Spathe Smile Mar 27, 2013

Spathe is known for its huge portions fit for large groups, but don't overlook their desserts. I tried their Poached Pear Charlotte Royal and Waffle Mania - both very different in their own way.

The Poached Pear Charlotte Royal is something very unique. It's a light, fruity choice and you can easily change that by drizzling tons of chocolate sauce over it. Yums!

The Waffle Mania is sooo good... I can't stop raving about it! They're too fluffy to be true!!! Better than A&W's - trust me!

Super unique mee siam Smile Mar 08, 2013

Categories : Malay | Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Noodles

I'd heard a lot about this famous store in Hong Lim Food Centre but never got around to visiting it... until this weekend that is.

The queue was long and it was quite a wait. But the auntie went down the line to take orders to try and speed things up a little. When it was my turn, I was really surprised to know that the uncle (this store's run by a couple) was extremely friendly. He started "marketing" his mee siam and began telling me that "you can't find this anywhere else in Singapore". Haha!

I do admit that even though I'm not a mee siam fan, this was very well done. The gravy is obviously the winning ingredient, but they won't reveal their secrets so no one knows what's exactly in the fruit juice gravy (yes, it's called Fruit Juice Mee Siam). I suspect it's pineapple and lime though. I'll never really know.

I also ordered the laksa to share. Over here, you have to use a spoon to scoop up the laksa noodles and gravy. Sooooo satisfying - laksa gravy's not too thick, consistency was just right, and they were very generous with the ingredients Two thumbs up!
