This restaurant is very near my place in Toa Payoh and I come here almost every week. At first I couldn't believe the incredibly low prices of the dishes on the menu - spaghetti is up to $4.90, maybe $5 max!

My usual dish is the Peperoncino Bacon Spaghetti ($4.90), an aglio olio-style pasta dish best enjoyed with loads of tabasco sauce. You may think $4.90 won't bring you much, but it's a pretty big bowl of pasta for such a low price!

Wonderful Xmas Menu @ Prive Grill Smile Dec 11, 2012

Categories : Steaks and Grills

Christmas came early this year and my boyfriend and I decided to have our special Xmas dinner at Prive Grill. Located on Singapore's only private island, Prive Grill isn't the easiest eatery to reach, but it sure is worth the journey.

We had the 5-course Festive Menu which was about $80++ per person. The dinner took about 2 hours and the pace the food was served at was perfect; they'd wait for you to be done with one before preparing and serving the other. We also had the BEST seats in the house, right by the waterfront! That evening we saw not one, but two firework displays right from where we were seated. Apparently, one of the staff told us that December sees weekly firework shows because of the festive season, so that was an awesome experience!

Tataki of Yellow Fin Tuna
Tataki of Yellow Fin Tuna was one of the starters and this was arguably one of my favourite items on the festive menu. The freshness of the yellow fin was unrivalled and it was seasoned so well. I gobbled this baby right up!

Josper-grilled King Prawns
The king prawns were huge, firm and juicy (must be the magic of the Josper grill). The bits of caviar added that burst of flavour to every bite, and the bed of truffled mash the prawns sat on was heavenly.

Pan-roasted Atlantic Cod
The cod was cooked to PERFECTION. What made this so tasty was the Niçoise olive and parsley crust which added a savoury touch to the dish. I love dishes that play with contrasting textures and flavours and the crust did just that, while complementing the smoothness of the fish meat.

Pineapple Carpaccio
Dessert was pretty out of this world. Thinly sliced pineapple topped with chilli, vanilla ice cream and olive oil coconut cake. Again, the contrasting textures and flavours with the sweetness of the pineapple and the spiciness of the chilli did it for me.

To top it all off, the service at Prive Grill was splendid. Our evening was perfect thanks to these guys. Bravo Prive!!

Dome's a great place to go for a simple lunch/dinner. I think their sandwiches, mains and coffee choices are fine. I ordered the Creamy Bacon Spaghetti (can't recall the official name) and it was pretty OK. Thick, creamy sauce with lovely bacon bits.

However, when I started on their supposedly famous Molten Lava Cake I was quite horrified... the chocolate wasn't warm (I'm pretty sure that's the standard - for the lava to at least be a bit warm) - in fact it was even a bit cold, and the whole thing was wayyyy too thick for me to handle. I had one bite and that was it for me. Sigh. sad

I love ThaiExpress in general but it gets a little inconsistent at times in terms of food portions, standards and especially the service.

My usual order is the Chicken with Basil Leaves and the Sticky Mango Rice so that's what I had that evening. The portion for the chicken was OK, but I can't say the same for my boyfriend's dish which was the Honey Chicken with Rice. I think there were only 2 chicken pieces on his super large plate. Yikes...

Service was extremely slow that evening, probably because of the crowd. But I think it's something ThaiExpress should work on. It takes about 5 minutes to get the attention of the waiters. sad

For dessert we had the Sticky Mango Rice. I think the rice was quite dry and they weren't at all generous with the coconut milk. This dessert dish is usually fantastic here, but it just dropped in standard this particular evening.

Average Korean food at Hansang  OK Dec 11, 2012

Categories : Korean | Korean BBQ

I was craving for Korean BBQ and my boyfriend and I were in the Novena area so we decided to go to "Little Korea" in Square 2, Novena. Square 2 is full of Korean stuff, just in case you've never noticed. So we were in the perfect place!

We settled for Hansang Korean Family Restaurant and ordered the Grilled Pork Belly with bulgogi rice - nothing fancy just this one dish. I found it pretty OK, very average. It was ultimately comfort food to me but I think the portion was kinda small. I've ordered Grilled Pork Belly elsewhere and they were much more generous with the meat.
