try the baked rice OK Oct 01, 2013

This place has rather affordable jap/western fusion food. Their set lunches are at around $12+ but choices of spaghetti are rather limited (only 3 available); set lunch comes with a drink and a dessert (chocolate ice cream which tastes like typical ice cream from a tub). The vongole spaghetti was average. I had the salmon mayo baked rice - portion was alright but might be too little for big eaters. I like how the sauce complemented the rice, not bad a choice.

Spending per head: Approximately $14(Lunch)

Soya Bean OK Oct 01, 2013

I was feeling thirsty after dinner and decided to get a drink from Selegie Soya Bean. I got the soya bean with grass jelly for around $1.50 per cup. It wasn't too sweet and the proportion of grass jelly added was just right. The drink was also not too sweet. I used to eat their beancurd quite often in the past, but it seems like business is losing out to other chilled soya beancurd like 69 in the same hawker centre.

Porridge OK Oct 01, 2013

I have always wanted to try the porridge from this Alishan Taiwan Porridge place near Kovan. They have a wide variety of dishes available. I tried the Otah - was not bad, not too spicy and had pieces of fish meat within. We also had the fish - I liked the gravy particularly as it went well with porridge (they also had sweet potato porridge). Do get the fried ngoh hiang, it's very popular and tasty as well.

Spending per head: Approximately $12(Dinner)

Sushi OK Oct 01, 2013

Bought takeaway from Sakae Sushi the other day as I was craving for sushi. Their handrolls are quite reasonably priced at $2.20 - the tuna one was alright, nothing special and rather filling. Do get their fried salmon (limited quantities available as they say) - portion is good and costs only $2.20 - thinly sliced and fried till crispy. I also tried one of their new(?) sushi, the fried ebi crepe sushi with roe. The roe on top was great and very flavourful.

Place to chill OK Oct 01, 2013

After dinner, we went to this rooftop bar to have some drinks - conveniently located around bugis as well. Ambience was good as it wasn't crowded on a weekday night. There was some promotion and a jug of housepours was $40 - sufficient for about 5 cups or so. Avoid rum with ginger ale - wasn't any taste of rum at all and it tastes very diluted. Whiskey with coke was better.
