Satisfying dinner  Smile May 09, 2013

Me and my friend were attracted by the katsu pork from the display so went in for a try.
I ordered the Hire and Minced Katsu Zen. The set included pork tenderloin and minced pork cutlet, assorted sashimi ( 5pieces),rice, miso soup, chawanmushi (small), appetizer and fruits! It looked quite worth as the combination was very appetizing. The pork was fried just nicely, not too dry and the meat was juicy enough. But sashimi was not very fresh.
As for my friend, he ordered the Kurobuta(black pork) Oden Shabu Shabu. The black pork tenderloin cutlet was tender. The combination was served with udon instead of rice. Sliced black pork belly was given for the Shabu Shabu. It was thinly sliced and went very well with the soup. There were squid balls, egg, cherry tomatoes, tofu, bamboo shoot and radish in the soup. Thus it gave a very natural sweet taste to it. And it did came with another miso soup.

The food was really nice and filling. We enjoyed our dinner a lot.

Enjoyed the white miso ramen! Smile May 08, 2013

I am a ramen lover and always love to try out different authentic ramen stall in Singapore! I remembered my last time came to this ramen shop was before its renovation in 2012. Now they had moved to new location since November 2012, right next to the escalator at Ion Orchard B4.
What I love the most about this ramen stall is the texture of it! Menya Kaiko sells Hokkaido style ramen, which is a kind of thick and curly noodle ( looks like instant noodle). Unlike the one in Marutama ramen ( thinner noodle). There are 3 kind of soup base, white miso, red miso, and soy sauce. I always order the original taste, white miso soup base. The noodle come with a slice of char siew and a stalk of green vegetable ( chye sim). The char siew can be improved if compare to other ramen shop, as you do not get to taste the char siew melting in your mouth. If you have tried authentic Japanese ramen, you will know the broth is very strong, some people will say that is too saltish, but to me, Menya kaiko white miso soup is still bearable. I love the 'QQ' texture of the noodle, and I will definitely return again. Although it is a little pricey but is worth it! By the way, water is free. smile

I came here for dinner with a friend, and we ordered the famous chicken pot. We ordered a small pot of chicken and two small rice to go with it. We were allowed to choose two free side dish, so we chose two type of vegetables. The chicken pot was served like steamboat style. When the pot was served, you can see thick gravy and plenty of chicken in it. Soup will be added to the chicken and we boiled our vegetables in it. Soup was dark in colour with nice aroma. Boiling vegetables in the pot full of chicken essence gave the vegetables it's full taste! Sweet and tasty! We enjoyed our dinner! If you are a small eater, the small pot is good enough for 3 persons!

Enjoyed the fried garoupa here! Smile Apr 12, 2013

Went for a dinner at this place. So in order to know if is a good Thai restaurant, one must order their Tom yum soup. Me and a friend ordered the Tom yum clear soup. Taste was okay if you enjoy sourish soup, but a little bit spicy will be better. As for the main dish, we have yellow curry chicken rice. The yellow curry chicken was served in a separate small tiny pot on the plate, which I think to keep it warm. Again, the curry was not really spicy though. We had another dish, the fried garoupa, which I recommend this to all. The fish is big, deep fried garoupa went well with the sweet and sour sauce, and there was generous toppings of vegetables, like onions, capsicum and pineapple. Lastly, we had the banana fritters in caramel for dessert with around 6 pieces of them! We enjoyed the food overall.

Sushi airways is located on the 2nd floor of one corner shop in Baghdad street. Never expect a Japanese cuisine around this area, so wondering if is nice. Did some research from their website and read some reviews and think is worth a try. As I'm looking forward to meet the "air stewardess" and experience something different as well.

I did not make any reservation, although I know this place has limited seats. So me an friends walked in around 8pm and we were just lucky enough to have 3 counter seats. So we can actually see clearly how the chef prepare our food.

We ordered few dishes for sharing.

1. Salmon tataki $15
- something like a salad with salmon sashimi topped with fresh leaves, lettuce and refreshing sauce. A good appetizer to start with your meal.
2. Mango roll $30
-the mango roll was huge in size compared to normal size, came in 8 pieces. The stuffing was the rolled egg, topped with big slice of mango and lobster. Nothing special, and a little pricey.
3. Sashimi small size $58
- there were 6 different type of sashimi and came in 3 pieces each. There were salmon( very thick slice), yellowtail, tuna, scallop, prawns, and fish egg (first time trying, very special and was good, like eating oyster)
-the sashimi was incredibly fresh, every bite melt in your mouth.
4. Grilled fugu $16
-not many Japanese offer this dish, so why not ordering here since they have it!
-very chewy and nice

We only ordered hot green tea at $3 for each pax.

Guess what, we were offered free desserts after our meal although just a tiny glass, but it was so sweet of them!

Service was good, food was good. There's even 10% discount for UOB card holder.
