Best bak chor mee in soup  Smile May 15, 2013

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre | Noodles

The 45 minutes of waiting time was really worth it!

Unlike the ordinary bak chor mee that came along with sliced mushroom, lettuce, mince meat ...this place served bak chor me in SOUP only. So do not fool yourself by ordering a dry bak chor mee here. I am a soup person, and love noodle in soup. Upon hearing raving about this place, I finally travelled all the way here to try the signature dish.

The soup made from pork bone was superb! I guess it must have cooked for hours to achieve such taste! There were minced meat, meatballs and slices of red chili in it. Meatballs were bouncy and minced pork were soft! The minced meat came in a generous portion. And the best was the noodle that has its QQ texture that made it a perfect bowl! Guess what, it cost $2.50 only for a regular size!

It was the best bak chor mee that I ever tried! Will definitely return again!

Brunch! OK May 14, 2013

Categories : Café

After renovation, this place looked brighter compare to last time. I came here for the sandwich and soup! It was around 11.15am, without the lunch crowd, me and my parents ordered sandwiches and a set of All-day breakfast.

Tried the daily soup, Moroccan spiced carrot soup! Spices blended very well and do not expect any chunks of carrot. Everything was finely blend and it was more to a tomato based soup.

As for the sandwiches, there were many choices out there. There were at least 5 different type of bread to choose from, such as Focaccia, Ciabatta and so on...Rosemary chicken was my favorite sandwich! Tried the golden pumpkin bread for the very first time and glad that it was perfectly good. Price around $8 and it was quite filling. The cranberry sauce in it was very appetizing and chicken was soft.
The smoked salmon sandwich was little disappointing because I think it was a bit saltish. Nothing special.
The all in breakfast cost at $13.80 came along with a cup of coffee. There were 2 sausages, a bacon, scrambled egg, sautéed mushroom and 2 slices of bread. I think it made a great breakfast! One thing to mention was the scramble egg taste good.

Unfortunately the service was so-so only. It could be due to lack of workers. There were few customers who came in later compliant about the late serving of food. But food wise, it was a healthy choice!

The best Xiao long bao ever! Smile May 12, 2013

Categories : Shanghainese

If you are looking for juicy Xiao long Bao, must go to Crystal jade! My all time favorite!
The la main always come in a huge portion, and if you are a small eater, two person can actually share a bowl of la mian.
The spicy cucumber did a great start as an appetizer! Cucumber was very crunchy, and the chili oil blend well with it and was really refreshing. I ordered the spicy and sour thick soup la mian. And guess what, the soup was really thick, more like gravy. There were a lot of dried chili flakes in it, but taste was okay, not too spicy. My friend ordered the la mian soup with shrimp wanton! The wanton was big and shrimp were very fresh! And we ordered 2 set of the famous Xiao Long Bao,total 8 pieces! The Xiao long Bao were very juicy, and were bigger in size compare to the one in Ding Tai Fung! Dipping the Xiao Long Bao in the ginger and vinegar was the way to eat it! But beware of your bite while eating Xiao long Bao, as the soup will gush out and might burn your tongue ! Then, we ordered another 8 pieces of pork dumplings with spicy chili sauce. Dumplings skin was just nice, soft and smooth! It was a perfect la mian dinner!

The after dinner sweet taste! OK May 09, 2013

Categories : Australian / New Zealand | Ice Cream and Gelato

After dinner, had a sudden crave for ice cream. Walked past this place and gave a try to their ice cream. I had an impression that this shop sells very milky ice cream, but since it's my first time, I did not really care about it so much. I ordered the large cup size, and allowed to choose 3 different flavours. I chose raspberry sorbet, durian vanilla and cookies and cream. Among the 3, I enjoyed raspberry sorbet the most. Strong taste and I loved the sourish of it! I found the durian , cookies and cream too sweet for me. I would say durian without vanilla would be nicer, like the one at Udders.

Satisfying dinner  Smile May 09, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sukiyaki/Shabu Shabu

Me and my friend were attracted by the katsu pork from the display so went in for a try.
I ordered the Hire and Minced Katsu Zen. The set included pork tenderloin and minced pork cutlet, assorted sashimi ( 5pieces),rice, miso soup, chawanmushi (small), appetizer and fruits! It looked quite worth as the combination was very appetizing. The pork was fried just nicely, not too dry and the meat was juicy enough. But sashimi was not very fresh.
As for my friend, he ordered the Kurobuta(black pork) Oden Shabu Shabu. The black pork tenderloin cutlet was tender. The combination was served with udon instead of rice. Sliced black pork belly was given for the Shabu Shabu. It was thinly sliced and went very well with the soup. There were squid balls, egg, cherry tomatoes, tofu, bamboo shoot and radish in the soup. Thus it gave a very natural sweet taste to it. And it did came with another miso soup.

The food was really nice and filling. We enjoyed our dinner a lot.
