Great Japanese Food!!  Smile Dec 19, 2013

My first visit to this restaurant despite seeing it for quite a number of times before. The food here is of good quality and quantity for its price. Placing order is simple and convenient with electronic panel just beside the table.

Ordered a mixed toji set while my gf ordered yofu hamburg set. Both taste really good especially the mixed toji set. The mixed toji set is great for those who like to eat a variety of meats in one meal, it features sliced beef, fried prawn and tonkatsu, all simmered in egg and cooked to perfection! Hamburg set wise is comparable with other restaurants in singapore.

In conclusion, the food taste really good and the price is quite affordable considering the spread. Really satisfied with the quality and quantity of the food. Shall visit it again soon!

Paper wrapped chicken

Saw this new restaurant with quite a queue at the new wing of marina square and decided to give it a try. Service was abit slow as the manager have to help customer to settle bill and usher customer in at the same time. However, food is served pretty fast, before i even finish my appetiser.

I ordered the paper wrapped chicken. The only plus point is that the food is reli hot, i open the wrap only after about 15-20 mins after it was served (eating appetiser in the meantime), and it was still piping hot. However, taste wise is kind of average. The chicken taste too bland with abit of "frozen meat" taste, while the sause is slightly spicy and not to my liking.

My gf ordered the pork katsuni, which looks rather good for its price. However, the tonkatsu that came was abit undercooked, can see that the meat in the middle section is still reddish. I checked with the waiter and they did change and reserve us another one that was cooked properly. The tonkatsu taste quite well, the meat isnt too tough and the egg is cooked just right (not too raw nor too overcooked).

Appetiser wise, taste pretty good, with a number of choices which taste decent enough.

Generally, the restaurant is very affordable considering its free flow appetiser. However, food and service wise have much room for improvements.

Nice food but overpriced OK Dec 18, 2013

Pineapple Fried Rice

Pineapple Fried Rice

Went with a couple of friends for a gathering over at JEMs outlet. I ordered a pineapple fried rice while my friends ordered some other main course like pad thai, green curry etc.

The pineapple fried rice is different from the ones in the usual thai restaurant, it does not come in a pineapple outer skin as a container but uses a stonepot. Other than a unique twist to the look of the disk, there is also a slight twist to the flavour. The pineapple fried rice doesn't come with pork floss but instead is accompanied by char siew nuts. The char siew nuts' aroma and taste complement very well with the fried rice. Generally I really like the dish except that the portion is slightly small and not filling.

Generally the food at the restaurant taste good/alright but portion is really far too small especially so for curry dishes like green curry with rice. The small portion makes the dishes really far too overpriced.

Tonkotsu King Smile Nov 10, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Ramen

Being Ramen Champion Keisuke Takeda's latest outlet in Singapore, I would say it is not a disappointment at all. The shop has an interesting concept of 4 seasons. 5 ramens are being served there, namely Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and King. The deco of the shop was "very japanese" in style, have a bar table seat rite in front of the cooking area and serves free flow of beansprout and soft-boiled eggs.

Being a fan of tonkotsu ramen, I decided to stick with the more "original flavor" one which is the Winter Ramen. The tonkotsu soup is very rich and yet doesnt have any stint of "smelly pork taste" (which do appear in some soup of some other ramen restaurant in singapore). The portion is just right, neither too small nor too full.

Green tea cola which is unique and can only be found in Tonkotsu Kings' restaurant is a must try. Taste good and refreshing although the green tea flavour isnt very obvious.

Categories : Japanese | Hawker Centre | Curries | Rice

Ordered the Teriyaki Chicken Set meal, which comes with a chawanmushi, miso soup and watermelon slice, at just $5. The portion of meat is just right (or might be slightly little for big meat eaters), with a generous portion of cabbage in thousand island sauce.

The chicken taste really nice with slight crisp on the skin and tenderness in the meat. Chawanmushi taste far better than any other chawanmushi offered in hawkers, but of course still slightly pale in comparison to restaurant standard.

In conclusion, the japanese food offered here is definitely value for money and taste great in terms of hawker standard. IMO one of the best Japanese food stall in hawker centres. (its unfair to compare it to restaurants of course).
