Lai Ji Zi Zhi Bao Dian Dian Xin  OK Sep 10, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Coffeeshop | Dim Sum

Lai Ji Zi Zhi Bao Dian Dian Xin was awarded for their fine culinary skills by Singapore Food Map.

The Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun (rice noodle) skin is silky and delicate. Not too delicate that it will just fall apart. There were a generous amount of Char Siew in the roll. The sweet brown sauce goes well with this dish.

Har Gow with its wonderful translucent shrimp dumplings. The skin texture is smooth slightly chewy but not rubbery. A medium size prawn is found in each dumpling.

The overall seasonings for these Siew Mai are pretty bland. These dumplings served open-faced. There were no sweetness from the minced fatty pork. Fortunately, the sweet chill sauce provided has added some flavour to the overall Siew Mai.

I paid S$6.60 for three snacks. Average of about S$2.20 for each dish.

Sandwiches from Four Leaves

Sandwiches from Four Leaves

Other than the pastries, cakes and buns from Four Leaves, their sandwiches are very saleable.

Though the sandwiches selection from Four Leave are limited, the ingredients are very fresh and has to be keep refrigerated.

My favourite sandwiches are egg mayo and the ham shaves with sliced cucumber.

Each packet has two pieces of sandwiches. Their sandwiches combination are either two pieces of similar
ingredients or one of each type.

The other sandwich available are the tuna mayo.

Priced at S$2.80 for each packet.

The Filet-O-Fish meal comprises of a fish fillet, a packet of upsized French Fries and a drink.

This round I had the fish meal upsized and paid $3.25. Replaced the soft drink to medium Iced Milo for additional $2.75.

I was disappointed that the French Fries was very soft and cold. What happened?

Filet-O-Fish bun is still as soft and the fish filet as fresh. I usually take this burger plain without any dressing.

Ice Milo drink still as good and has the thickness of the Milo.

Not forgetting the curry sauce that I dipped with the French Fries.

Mac curry sauce is irreplaceable.

Nan Xiang Combi Meal Set  OK Sep 02, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Hainanese | Chicken Rice

smile

We ordered one double Combi Set for 2 at S$19.90 from Nan Xiang at Novena Square 2.

This Combi Set comprises of 2 bowls of chicken rice, 2 drumsticks of White Chicken meat, two bowls of Soup of the Day and a plate of boiled Shanghai Bok Choy.

The chicken rice is fragrant, tasty and fluffyThe chicken drumstick served in pieces, with the skin and bone intact. Garnished with a few pieces of cucumber. The meat is quite tender, moist and flavourful. From the tenderness of the chicken I could tell that the meat is well poached in such a way that there is no trace of dark red blood secretes from the bones unlike some chicken meat .

The usual classic dip of tangy chilli sauce that’s topped with a zingy of ginger sauce goes very well with both the fragrant rice and the poached white chicken.

Soup of the Day has two pieces of maize cobs combined with red dates, one piece of miserable pork rib cooked with goji berries. The soup has a mild taste.

The last dish of the Combi Set was a plate of Shanghai Bok Choy. I believe the Bok Choy was cooked in chicken broth that’s where the natural sweetness comes from. Unlike the common preparation of boiled vegetables with oyster sauce topping that are served at foodcourts.

We waited for about 15 minutes before the last dish of Shanghai Bok Choy was served. By the time the vegetable dish came, we almost finished eating the rice and the soup.

For next round, we will order half a chicken instead of the Combi Set.

Recommended Dish(es):  Poached White Chicken

Snacks for Tea Break  OK Sep 01, 2013

Selection of Menu

Selection of Menu

After my grocery shopping at Cold Storage, I decided to drop by at Hong Kong Sheng Kee to pickup a couple of snacks for tea break at Tampines One.

Their August promotion was to choose any 2 selected dish for S$4.80.

I ordered the Sheng Kee Signature Pau (Big Pau) and the Yam Cake.

The texture of the Pau is soft. There is a reasonable amount of pork and egg in the pau which is quite tasty.

Whereas for the Yam Cake the portion is small and the taste quite bland.

The deep fried shallots topping on the yam cakes are very hard. I would taste better without the topping of the shallots.

I loved Waterchestnut cakes. So I ordered two sets. Two pieces for each set at S$2.90. There were too little waterchestnut on the cakes and the taste is also bland.

I was in a hurry to go off and I regretted for not checking on my orders before leaving the place.

I only had one box of Waterchestnut cake instead of two boxes.

I tried calling the outlet when I reached home but their phone line Tel: 64838123 was switched to fax mode.
I gave up after trying five times over an hour.

A lesson thought – always remember to check my orders before leaving the outlet.
