Taiwan Snacks @ 吃在台北 OK Sep 21, 2013
Categories : Taiwanese

Never been to Taiwan before, yet heard alot about the variety of Taiwan street snacks and how good they are from friends who always go to Taiwan for hols smile And hence, we went to dine at 吃在台北 (yes I know, those from Taiwan is still better, but this is Singapore). Besides our main - which was noodles, we ordered 3 other sides - fried chicken cutlet, oyster omelette and the coffin bread. I was very intrigued by the coffin bread - first time seeing and eating it. Very unique taste. Didn't like the oyster because it had a rather fishy taste. The chicken cutlet was good! lol

Colourful xlb @ Paradise Dynasty OK Sep 21, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Shanghainese | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Noodles

Just a normal dinner at Paradise Dynasty, we ordered 2 bowls of pork La Mian, 8 of the colourful xiao long bao, redbean/chocolate puff and osthamus jelly "soup" as desserts. Honestly, I felt the La Mian was really really normal, nothing special for the price (which I can get nicer ones from similar Chinese restaurants). The main highlight I feel was the colourful xiao long baos which comes in 4 different flavours - they even gave us this slip of paper that says which flavour to eat first in order to get optimum tasting experience. The desserts though were quite ok - the puff would be better with more filling; and I'm not a fan of the jelly so my boyfriend ate it.

Would probably return if I am craving for the xiao long bao. There's even foie gras flavour too! shocked

HK food @ Wang Cafe OK Sep 21, 2013
Categories : Café

My group of friends had initially wanted to head to Tim Ho Wan on a Friday night but the queue was unbelievable. Hence, we decided to eat at Wang Cafe where the queue was more decent during Friday's dinner time. Wang Cafe is another one of those hong kong cafes that have bloomed in Singapore. Most of my friends ordered their pork cutlet noodles while I wanted to try something else so I got the sambal fried rice smile And we got a few sides along as well.

Not bad for a cafe that is of affordable pricing. However do note their dishes are rather salty. Will go back there again if I really want a shorter queue and less pressure on my wallet tongue

Recommended Dish(es):  Pork cutlet noodle

Spending per head: Approximately $15(Dinner)

Dim Sum @ Tim Ho Wan OK Sep 05, 2013
Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Restaurant | Dim Sum | Noodles | Kids-Friendly

With the arrival of Tim Ho Wan to Singapore, queues outside the michellin star restaurant were so long that customers had to wait for at least 2 hours and some even up to 4 hours. We went on a thursday night - the queue during mon to thurs is relatively shorter, and waited for around 15 mins (yay!) because there was only 2 of us so it was faster.

We tried almost all of their dim sum selection and sadly, I personally feel that Tim Ho Wan was kind of over-rated. Their tastes weren't as good as I thought, maybe due to higher expectations since it is a michellin star restaurant. Out of all their dim sums, I feel that their specialty BBQ pork bun is the best and it was delicious! The rest is rather normal just like any other dim sum restaurants.

Desserts @ Canele OK Sep 05, 2013
Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

There are quite a few Canele outlets with the latest one (if I'm not wrong) at Plaza Singapura's new wing. Being told that their macaroons was good, I decided to try out their other desserts which looks good and is so hard to resist when you walk past those display cases smile We ordered a strawberry shortcake and a creme brulee.

The strawberry shortcake was really pretty, but sadly it was quite a disappointment as I thought its taste would match its aesthetic appeal. To me I felt it was more of a normal sponge cake with strawberries in it. However, the creme brulee was good! Rich smooth texture with the sweet sugar crusted top. Personally I preferred the creme brulee over the shortcake, as it is more value for money. I love the place though (we went to the paragon outlet), with large plush sofa chairs - it gives this majestic appeal that makes you feel like sitting in there sipping tea the whole afternoon smile

Recommended Dish(es):  creme brulee

Spending per head: Approximately $10(Tea)
