Desserts @ Canele OK Sep 05, 2013

Categories : Café | Desserts and Cakes

There are quite a few Canele outlets with the latest one (if I'm not wrong) at Plaza Singapura's new wing. Being told that their macaroons was good, I decided to try out their other desserts which looks good and is so hard to resist when you walk past those display cases smile We ordered a strawberry shortcake and a creme brulee.

The strawberry shortcake was really pretty, but sadly it was quite a disappointment as I thought its taste would match its aesthetic appeal. To me I felt it was more of a normal sponge cake with strawberries in it. However, the creme brulee was good! Rich smooth texture with the sweet sugar crusted top. Personally I preferred the creme brulee over the shortcake, as it is more value for money. I love the place though (we went to the paragon outlet), with large plush sofa chairs - it gives this majestic appeal that makes you feel like sitting in there sipping tea the whole afternoon smile

Dinner @ Lenas OK Sep 05, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Desserts and Cakes | Pasta | Steaks and Grills

A normal restaurant located at Tampines 1 branch, we decided to have our dinner at Lenas for a change. For our mains we ordered pizza and carbonara. The pizza was so so, unless u really like pizzas with thin crusts. The toppings were nothing out of the ordinary. Being a fan of carbonaras, I felt that the Lenas's carbonara wasn't creamy enough, it kind of lacks the richness and creaminess of carbonaras from popular places like Waraku.

We had ice cream brownie in hotpan with almonds and it was rather good! smile Rich, luxurious melting chocolate combined with the creamy ice cream provides that soothing happy taste that you won't forget.

Remember the meme drooling rainbows? Inspired by the rainbow idea, comes the Rainbow Cake. Exclusively found in Le Chocolat Cafe, this small quaint cafe in a boutique hotel sells not only this unique cake but also several other very yummy-licious looking desserts.

I decided to try out this famous rainbow cake of theirs, which costs around $7 per slice. Rich chocolate coating over the colourful layers of sponge cake really made my day smile It was not bad, quite tasty actually. However, Le Chocolat Cafe may want to consider giving a different flavour to each different coloured layer - just to make this cake more premium and exceed customers' expectations!

Desserts @ Paris Baguette Cafe Smile Sep 04, 2013

The fairly hot bakery round the corner, Paris Baguette Cafe has finally come to Singapore!! A french-inspired cafe that has its origins from Korea, the Paris Baguette Cafe has opened an outlet at Wisma Atria. Recommended by my friend to try their Royal Pudding, we went to their outlet after our dinner to try out some of their desserts smile

Their open floor concept was pretty cool, even though there were rather few seats and the place will be packed during peak hours. But their desserts are really expensive. We decided to go with Mango Napoleon ($7.50) and of course, their Royal Pudding – Original flavour ($4.50).

Both are yummy smile especially the Mango Napoleon though. Reminds me of apple strudel from Ritz. The Royal Pudding was good too, a little bit like panna cotta, but that bottom layer of brown sugar kind of spoils the smooth texture and milky taste of the pudding. And the reason why the royal pudding is so expensive is probably due that cute little bottle smile

Spending per head: Approximately $8(Supper)

As I was searching up for new cafes in Singapore that serves pancakes, I found Paddington House of Pancakes. Like any other pancake cafes, it has both the sweet and the savoury (much more of these tho) pancakes…but with many many other delightful varieties and options smile It is located at City Square Mall (Farrer Park mrt) and has only 1 outlet, yes I know that’s sad, in Singapore. Paddington House of Pancakes unique selling point is, well pancakes, but with a global touch – with flavours from all around the world.

Cheesy fries & wedges with bacon bits (it was too yummy I’d forgotten the price) for appetizer; spicy potatoes pancake with an extremely pan-fried dory & fries served with mushroom sauce ($15) and spicy potatoes pancake with smoked salmon & cheesy scrambled eggs ($19) for our mains. I love the fish – both of them, and the lovely scrambled eggs.. However the mushroom sauce wasn’t really to my liking. For those of you who can’t take spicy, don’t attempt to try the pancakes. They.Are.Spicy.

Way too filling and in the end I couldn’t really finish my dish. But there’s always room for dessert aren’t there? So we each orrdered a different flavour of Pancakes Sundae ($8) – Strawberry NewYork Cheesecake for myself and Orange marmalade swirl with lychee & peach for dear. Really loved the desserts and would definitely go back there for somemore!! smile
