Decent Peranakan food Smile Feb 01, 2014

Categories : Malay | Peranakan / Nonya | Singaporean Chinese

This restaurant offers a fusion of Chinese food and Peranakan cuisine. It is like a more atas Zichar place but with additional Nyonya dishes such as Beef Rendang and Assam fish. Easily accessible at the basement of Raffles City, the place can be quite packed during peak hours.

Ordered the Nasi Bukhara and the Cantonese Kway Teow. The former dish consisted of Beef Rendang, Fried Chicken, served with Nasi Pilaf (looked like Nasi Briyani with a slight fragrance but tasted almost like plain rice). Chicken was not too deep fried and the chunks of Beef were quite tender. I prefer the Hor Fun, the gravy was not too diluted and the noodles was slurp-ily smooth with a pleasant 'wok-hei' taste in it.

Ordered the San Bei Ji ($12.90) as well, recommended as one of signature dishes. There were pieces of chicken stewed with ginger, garlic and chilli served in a pot. I had no idea why this ordinary dish would be anything special. Tried the Fried Four Heavenly King which is actually a combi of Petai, brinjal, ladies finger and long beans fried with Sambal. It was not too spicy and appetizing and you get four types of veggie in one!

Overall, food quality is quite good but with a few misses for some of the items. Quite a variety of choices while some might feel the price slightly steep considering that one can get most of these food items at ZiChar coffee shops.

As the name implies, the cafe has in fact, a nicely-decorated setting with communal tables suitable for group makan therapy ^.^ The antiquated decorations including an old bicycle near the entrance complement perfectly with the rustic furniture.

Ambience aside, the menu offers quite a wide variety ranging from all-day-breakfast items to mains like pasta and panini. Had Poached eggs ($15) served on thick toast with Smoked Salmon and Hollandaise sauce. The portion of Salmon was pleasantly generous. The eggs were done nicely. As to the bread, would have preferred to have sourdough rather than just plain white thick toast. While the amount of Hollandaise was kinda of an 'overkill' as it got fairly gelat after a while. Hmm overall it is still commendable since the highlight, the poached eggs were nicely done lol

My friend had the Croissants with scrambled eggs. The croissants was flaky and shatter-crisp with the lovely buttery taste, except that the dough wasn't tender enough and the portion could barely fill one's stomach. The scrambled eggs was alright. Hmm nothin fantastic mad

Tried the Roasted Almond Latte and it was quite a disappointment. Coffee was not strong and there wasn't any discernible roasted Almond taste at all.

In general, the place has good ambience and accessible via public transport. Some hits and misses with food but pricing is reasonable for its worth lol

Snow Ice for Dessert! Smile Feb 01, 2014

Categories : Taiwanese | Café | Desserts and Cakes | Kids-Friendly

As the name Fluffy portrays, this dessert place signature Snow Ice has indeed a fluffy texture. And to add an extra twist to it, there is a whole range of different ice flavors one can choose from such as milk, soy, horlicks and mango. For a sourish option, there is also the option of Lime Sherbet Ice.

Aside from its interesting variety, the place has an interesting homey atmosphere too. Walled in pink, there are five small posters hung on wall stating reasons why one should not hesitate indulging in desserts. Haha for girls, there is indeed always a stomach for desserts lol Overall decorations gives off quite an adorable vibe, cute and sweet smile

Had a mini Soy Snow Ice with coffee jelly as topping ($4) and LimeLight.
The snow ice had quite strong soy taste but was slightly too sweet for my liking. The Lime rendition was nice and refreshing with generous portion of toppings.

If you are around Tanjong Pagar, it is a good place to chit chat while having some desserts. The place sells beancurd, Chinese paste and pancakes too. But ahh perhaps the place suits more for the females as we always have room for sweet stuff and a thing for pink cute stuff tongue

Healthy and Good *thumbs up* Smile Feb 01, 2014

Cedele is one of my most frequented eatery place. I like their health-conscious concept in food preparation. The place prides itself of the philosophy to eat good and live well. True enough, I think it offers healthy food that tastes great lol

For burgers, I recommend their Beef Onion Portobello Burger. The grilled Beef patty tasted very fresh and juicy, not artificial-like. Sandwiches within along the juicy patty were Onion Balsamic Marmalata, sautéed Portobello Mushroom, Mayonnaise, Wholegrain Mustard, lettuce and tomato. And one get to choose the bread instead of the usual boring white burger bread.

For pasta, one can never go wrong with their Red Seafood Risotto. It is an wholesome load of seafood (white fish, prawn and mussels) accompanied with risotto drench in rich tomato base. I like that it is wet and richly tomato-flavored. But, it could be otherwise for some.

Lastly I have cakes to seal my satisfaction for a complete fulfilling meal. I like the Black Sesame Tahini cake very much. It has a rich black sesame taste in the sponge cake accompanied with a light layer of cream cheese. And ahh I have always the dilemma of choosing either the Tahini cake or their equally awesome Carrot Walnut cake. The cake is not too sweet (unlike most carrot cakes I have had) and moist. Carrot shreds can be visibly seen in the sponge cake. The cream cheese and walnuts on top complement perfectly.

Ambience-wise, the concept is just simple and no-fuss. The food speaks for itself – healthy and delicious with a wholesome interesting variety overall.

I love coffee. I love dark chocolate. At Max Brenner, I have the best of both worlds heehee lol

The place serves a wide range of chocolate and coffee drinks and desserts. And the crockery used to serve is quite unique and cute, appeals to people like me who emphasizes on food presentation tongue

This is a great place to chill indeed and satisfy one's sweet tooth at the same time. Forget about the usual coffee places like Starbucks heehee lol But pricing here is slightly steeper ><
