Wrap and Roll - Viet Cuisine! Smile Oct 25, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Vietnamese

Wrap and Roll opened recently at Ion Orchard's level Basement 3 and it deals primarily with Vietnamese Cuisine. Having never really tried any Vietnamese dishes before, I decided to give Wrap and Roll a go.

I ordered the 'Com Suon Nuong' which is basically a rice dish with grilled pork chop and salted egg pudding, with some salad. I found the presentation of the food quite amusing especially how they arranged the salad vegetables! The grilled pork chop was well cooked and seasoned - Not too strong a taste and nicely glazed and cooked. The salted egg pudding was a bit salty for my taste but I'm not sure if it was accidentally made too salty or that's how it's supposed to taste like. All in all it was a decent meal although a tad pricey.

Although the place is new, the staff were all very courteous and helpful with customers' needs! Thumbs up for the good service!

IKOI! Smile Oct 25, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Hotel | Buffet

In my honest and unbiased opinion, Ikoi is the best Japanese restaurant there is and it serves up the freshest sashimi you'll ever find. Located in Hotel Miramar near Great World City, Ikoi offers an ala carte buffet everyday and don't expect to be able to walk in and get a seat without any reservations. Reservations are pretty much done in advance and the restaurant is always full.

Ikoi's ala carte buffet menu offers a huge variety - Don, Udon, Noodles, Sushi, Nigiri, Sashimi, all kinds of side dishes etc Everything is prepared on the spot for you. What takes the cake for me would be of course their sashimi. Free flow of sashimi is one thing, but free flow of fresh sashimi of premium quality is a totally different and appealing matter altogether. Most of their dishes are decent and average, and their sashimi exceeds all expectations. Do order several plates, the sashimi comes pretty quckly as many people orders it.

Ikoi isn't really a very big restaurant and has limited space so make sure you book ahead in advance, maybe a week. The seats might be a bit small and cramp so do bare with the constraints!

Soup Spoon! Smile Oct 24, 2013

Categories : Multi-Cuisine | Restaurant | Vegetarian | Chinese Soup | Western Soup | Halal

As evident by the name of the group, Soup Spoon primarily sells soup and serves up several different flavours of soup!

Simon and Garfunkel is one of their most popular soups available! I ordered a bowl and it came with bread. The soup was rich with flavour and thick and warm. The portion of fillings was generous, with an abundance of meat, vegetables and potatoes. Dipping the bread in soup was an excellent taste as well!

If you're looking for a complete meal, you can upgrade your meal to set by adding a half wrap or half salad plus a snack or drink! You can also share the set with a friend if you don't want such a heavy meal.

Turkish Food at Sufi! Smile Oct 24, 2013

If you've never had any Turkish food before and you're looking for quality Turkish food, this is a great place to go! Sufi has quite a large variety of food to offer, but I ordered two different kebab dishes to try. I'll recommend grabbing the mixed kebab platter, although its pricier as it offers a good mix of different meats for you to try. The kebab are all really tasty and marinated really well with the spices. A generous portion of meat plus the juiciness and taste of it makes it all worth it. Do try their other food such as their stew and pizza, as well as their turkish tea!

Smoulders! Smile Oct 24, 2013

Smoulders is a great place to go for a snack or dessert if you're looking for some tasty lava cake!

I tried the white chocolate raspberry and white chocolate matcha lava cakes at $2.80 a piece. Its not exactly a very big piece of cake, but the taste is well worth the price! The taste was rich with flavour and the matcha and raspberry was dintinct and complemented the cake well. Presentation wise, the lava cake wasn't really flowing but it was still warm and molten. If you have some cash to spare and you're feeling like indulging yourself, just grab one of these little snacks!
