Fine Dining @ NUOC Smile Apr 04, 2011

Categories : Vietnamese | Restaurant | Seafood | Kids-Friendly

As i was meeting an old friend, i decided to go somewhere a little posh as i needed do something around the area too. As we wanted to try a different cuisine, we opted for NUOC, orchard as the view and ambience look amazing from the outside.

Upon stepping into the restaurant, i was taken aback at how great the scenary looks and the great smile by the waiters/waiteress.

As i was late for about 30min, my friend proceeded to do the ordering as it was kinda a punishment for being late. We ordered the Seafood Fried Rice, Sauteed Beef, Vietnamese Spring Rolls and the Banana cake, Coconut custard for desserts.

The biggest dissapointment was the Sauteed Beef. It seemed overcooked and as it was wat past lunch time (2.15pm), there was nobody barely anybody in the restaurant yet the aircon cooled our food at an amazing rate. By the time we were almost done with the beef, it tasted like salted sashimi.

As for the Spring rolls, being a signature dish for vietnamese cuisine, it really was exceptionally good - as compared to NTU Hall 14 cheap vietnamese food. The vege in the spring roll was super fresh and the prawns were succulent. Together with the sauce, it was a match made in heaven.

As for the Seafood Fried Rice - every grain of rice if very flavourful and full, although the portion was a little small for 2 person.

As for the desserts - it was the highlight for the day. Both were great but the banana cake gets alittle too bored after a while whereas the Coconut custard really makes one feel that the small pudding like thingy ain't enough for a single person.

The whole experience was great - but of course, the price tag that came along was GREAT too. smile

This stall has one of my favourite food- Vegetarian Bee Hoon - selling it in the middle of the night when everybody is snoozing (it is open for 24 hours!). Located @ Pasir Ris Drive 6, this is one of the stalls that sustain my cravings for good food in the middle of the night cause it is not only near Changi Business Park but also near Downtown east where people can trot over here for food if they want something other than Mcdonalds.

The Bee Hoon is not very dry (and you have option to put curry or normal sauce) and if you go around 6am - everything is freshly out from the wok!

My 2 personal favourite is the Petai (Stinky Beans) fried with sambal chili and the fried goose (which is probably a favourite for everybody).

Although there is nothing special about the stall they do however sell other types of food like rice and Tze char, Ban Mian and other varieties.

Please note that for those people who are vegetarians and cannot take egg, you must inform the aunty. This stall is especially busy on the 1st and 15th lunar day of the chinese calander.

Great Hala Food @ a Cheap Price! Smile Apr 04, 2011

My collegues and I went to this place for lunch as we have heard raves about this place and the price was affordable although it was a restaurant setting. The exterior of the place looks captivating as it is located at a neighbourhood, to me, only accessible by car.

Interior was great - westernized with a touch of Asian in it, but not an ideal place for a large group of people - even with the 6 of us, we seem to be filling up the place already.

We proceeded to order: Cream of Cauliflower soup, Seafood Alio Olio, Fried Rice, Fish and Chips and Fried Bee Hoon.

Cream of Cauliflower was a little bit surprising to me as the i am a fan of mushrooms and it stops there. Yet, the cauliflowers seems to go down well.

Seafood Alio Olio was awesome - as a fan of pasta, i feel that the seafood was immersed into the pasta and it was flavourful.

The Fried Rice and Bee Hoon were both normal dishes - being a little too salty and oily for my palatte - but with its huge portions @ an affordable price of only $1.95 each, no one could complain. smile Personally, i would prefer to go with the bee hoon.

Lastly, the Fish and Chips was dissapointing to me as the fries were cold and the fish a little too over cooked. Furthermore - we were already super full when this dish came (as we ordered 2 portions of Alio Olio). But there was also a lunch promotion for this which was affordable - $3.50!

On a whole - we enjoyed the Lunch experience as the total cost was way below what we had in mind for a restaurant service + setting.
It's Ok.

A place to Chill with good bear Smile Apr 04, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

This place is away from bustling Singapore and a great place for drinks and soccer matches as not many people will come here, only people who drive or live around Sengkang.

They have great bear and food (Jack's place) and i will highly recommend the Archipelago Beer (Irish Ale) as i totally love the taste. Better than Tiger and Heiniken.

Right now, they are having a promotion from Mon-Sun; 11.30am - 3pm, 1 pint of beer is only $5++ with an order of the Daily Set Lunch!

Yamazaki Sweets for my sweet Smile Dec 31, 2010

Categories : Japanese | Bakery

I have been to Tampines 1 countless of times and everytime i walked passed this bread/cake shop, i am captivated by the strawberry shortcake on it's display shelf. Finally, with courage (and cash in my pockets) i walked asked for a slice of the meancing cake.

Together with that cake, i also choose the cream puff as i am a total sucker for strawberries, and Japanese food. Such a combination really make me drool.

What i liked about the pastries @ Yamazaki is that it gives one a full satisfaction upon its first bite and it is not too sweet like what is shown on manga. It's cream does not have a very oily texture and yet soothing for those who need an occasional indlugence in life.

The strawberry shortcake is highly recommended for those who love strawberries WHOLE. smile
