Valentine's Day Cupid Set Dinner Smile Feb 16, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Multi-Cuisine

Courtesy of OpenRice Singapore, I was able to enjoy such a memorable dinner on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend this year. I am grateful that I am lucky enough to be one of the winners for the OpenRice Valentine's Day Contest, I won a 4-course Valentine's Day Dinner, worth $168 at Blue Potato Restaurant @ Swissotel Merchant Court!! lol

The 4-course meal included:
1. Appetiser

Norwegian Salmon Confit was served as the first dish of the day and boy, it definitely did set the bar of expectations for the rest of the courses. We were able to tell that the salmon was VERY VERY fresh, through the first bite. We were expecting the biting texture of sashimi but it was slightly cooked and the biting texture was very smooth. Overall it was very appetizing and a good dish to start the courses going!

Olive Bread was served next, it was very crusty and it was still warm when we took our first bite. We had garlic butter spread and butter spread to spread over the bread. The garlic butter spread definitely caters to those that cant take strong garlic stench in the mouth, it was very tasty with abit of garlic taste that blended with the butter very well, and well, the butter spread, tasted like butter spread, nothing too special.

2. Soup

The name of the soup is "Butternut Squash Veloute Perfumed with Golden Macadamia Nuts, Caramelised "Granny Smith" Apples and Smoked Chicken Breast" .The soup looks very appealing with its bright colors and was sweet to the right extent without being too greasy. With the sweetness of apple, nothing can go wrong! There were apple bits, chicken breast bits and macadamia bits to complement with the soup very well..

3. Entree

My boyfriend had Roast Cannon of Lamb, Aubergine Risotto, Sauteed Baby Vegetable and Smoked Tomato Jus. The biting texture of the Lamb was very satisfying and juicy! I was able to taste the freshness of the lamb through each bite. Most of the lamb chops I had outside are very tangy, but this one was very tender and every bite severs the meat so effortlessly. The Risotto and Sauteed Baby Vegetable also tasted very yummy and tasty that he finished every bit of them! We love the thickness of the sauce made from smoked tomato, because it tasted very fresh, natural and tongue-stimulating at the same time!

I, on the other hand, chose to have Cornish Seabass, which was served with Chunky Mashed, Confit Fennel and Grilled Asparagus with Lobster Cream. The fish was also very fresh, it tasted like mummy's cooking. The mashed potato was also not bad. Since this dish was quite bland, the sauce served which was the lobster cream which tasted a little salty went very well with everything.

4. Dessert

Lastly, the dessert served was Roasted Strawberry with Elderflower Panna Cotta. The panna cotta was one of my favourite dish of the night. It was slightly bitter and sweet at the same thing, I had mixed feeling when I was enjoying the dessert, especially when the texture of the cream was so fine and smooth. The dish also went so well with with the fragrant scent of the roasted strawberry. A really sweet and romantic Valentine dinner indeed.

Each couple was given a rose, a plushie and two glasses of champagne during the dinner.

I would like to give credits to all the workers in Swissotel for this sumptuous meal, since their service was really very good. I was served in a very polite manner by every one of them. In addition, the whole atmosphere and environment was very conducive and elegant at the same time. Thank you, Blue Potato Restaurant and OpenRice Singapore!

My relatives told me that the food in Aust Wine at Farmart are really nice and not expensive so I decided to eat there that day.

Ordered the Vegetarian Spaghetti with Pesto Sauce for $10, didn't expect to find something so cheap at such fancy place!

The waiting time for the dish was about 15 minutes, service was really efficient and great.
The waiters and waitresses were polite as well.
The ambiance was perfect for a romantic date, as the environment was dark and comfortable.
The place was surrounded with real plants, soft musics were played.

The spaghetti I ordered was really healthy, not oily with lots of veggies.
The dish was also fragrant and a little salty to add some flavour to the dish.
Very satisfied with this meal! smile

Rice Smile Feb 14, 2013   (Related Review)

Had this cheap packet of rice for lunch for only $3!!

It was so cheap I was quite shocked too, because I added rice, and I 2 vege + 1 meat altogether!
I had fried chicken fillet, stir-fried cabbage with beancurd skin, and steamed egg.

The steamed egg was very delicious, smooth and soft, love it very much!!
The cabbage was quite oily but still not that disgusting.
The chicken fillet was tasty, however it was a little salty.
The rice quality was quite good, which made my meal a great one smile

Reasonable price for a filling meal, with great service smile

Chee Cheong Fun Smile Feb 14, 2013   (Related Review)

I have been craving for the Hong Kong Style Chee Cheong Fun from Dakota for DAYS.
Unfortunately, due to all the projects and assignments in school I do not have the time to travel far to satisfy my craving.
So in the end, I went to eat the normal Chee Cheong Fun from Koufu,
which tasted not bad too smile

This plate of Chee Cheong Fun was also very cheap and worth the money because it only costs me $1 for 3 rolls of ccf.
The ccf was served hot, with sesame oil, sweet sauce and chilly sauce too.
Sesame topping was included as well smile

The ccf was really soft and yummy.
A healthy bland breakfast indeed.
The aunty was very kind and friendly.
Satisfied with the service and environment!

Ba Chor Mee Smile Feb 14, 2013

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Food Court | Noodles

I am a regular customer of this stall, because I love the Ba Chor Mee here.
My boyfriend told me that this stall have lasted for more than 10 years, I am not surprised because the famous Xiang Gu Ba Chor Mee (Minced Pork Noodles) here is like one of the best I have eaten in Singapore, be it dried or souped Ba Chor Mee.

This is my Mi Fen Ba Chor Mee (Vermicelli Minced Meat Noodles), souped.

I had this for my breakfast, it costs me $3.20, which was quite reasonable.
The soup was very fragrant with the smell of chinese parsley, or they call it coriander.
The minced meat and sliced pork were also tender and fresh.
Mushroom tasted great as well. The meat balls were not bad.

I really like the ba chor mee here. The aunty was a little weird but it's still at a bearable level mad
Awesome choice for breakfast and lunch smile
