We booked this nice French Restaurant during Restaurant Week as part of a family celebration. For this restaurant we had a choice of 3 Entree, 3 Main Courses and 2 desserts. It cost $40++ per head for lunch & does not include drinks.

I like that the Escargots are de-shelled so that it easy to eat. You get 6 escargots sitting on round cut toasted bread which gives a crunchy texture.

This is French Crab mixed with Avocado and has a balsamic sorbet topped with bread crisp. Eating crispy bread with this creamy mixture & balance with a sour taste open our appetites for more refine gourmet food to come.

I picked this slowed cooked Belly Pork as my main course. The belly pork was moist and has slight crispy skin served with a light flavour sauce. The mash potatoes were creamy and smooth. The vegetable has a slight crunch to it. This is was yummy with subtle taste.

This chocolate concoction is Araguani & passion fruit sandwich between chocolate sheet and serve with Raspberry sorbet. It has a bitter sweet taste from the chocolate and sour taste from the Passion fruit and Raspberry sorbet. It is decorated with small pieces of passion jelly.

Service was attentive except when paying the bill, they took a long time to return my credit card but they apologise for it.Overall the Place has a high class ambience with refine food served in beautiful culinary. Good place to entertained guest.

Japanese Style French Pastries Smile Oct 25, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

This place serves yummy French pastries with Japanese influence. It is baked by a Japanese Chef Yamashita. Located at Duxton Hill but they just open a branch at Takashimaya this Oct.

This Patisserie shop has limited seating with a few tables & chairs. A glass display shows their cakes available. Note that they only except cash in the shop, no credit card facilities in the shop.

The pieces of cakes & pastries are on the high side at $6.50 a slice and marron pie at $4.20. Hot drink like tea is around $4 except for a small bottle of Fiji spring water AT $1.50. But the taste and quality did not disappoint. In fact the small whole cake was at affordable price from $24 which can eat 4-5pax.

The marron pie has puff pastry as the base filled with almond cake that taste like sugee cake and topped with macaroon texture. This usual pie is delicious with each bites and the contrasting texture matched very well. Thinking of it makes me crave for it, I must get more when I am next at FLOR.

The cakes and pastry are of a high standard even though prices are on the high sides but you pay for quality. I like that the items are not overpowering sweet and has different texture with each bits.

They do not use preservatives or baking agent and is freshly baked daily

Heavenly Macarons and Cupcake. Smile Oct 13, 2011

Categories : Bakery

I ordered a box of 5 macarons for $11 and 2 cupcakes at $3.50 each when I happened to be at Holland Grove.
Macaroons

Macaroons

The macarons were packed in a nice box which fits 5 pieces nicely. I picked the black sesame, Lemon, Yuzu, Raspberry and Black Forest. The shell of the macarons has a chewy texture and the sweetness level is just right. The filling is filled with yummy smooth cream depending on the flavour you order.
Cupcakes

Cupcakes

The cupcake comes in chocolate or vanilla base with different cream topping. I ordered the black forest cup cake which has a pink cream and topped with strong liqueur cherry. The other cupcake is a vanilla based with yuzu flavour. I like the soft and fluffy cake texture and the not overpowering sweet cream.

Highly recommended treat if you are in Holland Grove area. It is one of the best macarons that I have eaten locally.

Mooshi 's Buns Smile Sep 23, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Bakery | Café

The buns are $1.80 each. We tried the 2 recommended buns which are curry chicken and ham and cheese.

The ham and cheese bun did not travel well as takeaway. It went slightly out of shape once I reached home. The bun was soft and a bit sticky. The combination of the ham and cheese was not bad but I prefer the curry chicken bun.

Ham & Cheese, Curry Chicken buns

As the curry chicken filling is more solid, the bun holds its shape. I love the spicy & fragrant chicken curry that goes with the soft bun. You get pieces of chicken cooked in spicy curry paste. This is highly recommended if you like spicy stuffs.

They also have sweet filling like apple, red bean.

The downside is that they are only open from 12noon, so you cannot buy them fresh for breakfast.

Orange Cream

Orange Cream

This little bread boutique is along the Joo Chiat road nearer to Joo Chiat Complex.
It sells mainly European Bead using natural ingredients with no preservative.

We walked in after an early dinner at the Vietnamese Restaurant. It was still open just before 6pm (normally closed at 5pm). The lady was keeping the bread as we walked in. I saw this usual bun which is filled with orange cream.

The bun look like an open tart but the based is soft sweet bread filled with not too sweet orange cream and orange peals. On top it is sprinkle with small square bits of biscuit and icing sugar. It gives it a contrasting texture. The price is $2.30 each. Nice for breakfast or a tea snacks.
