We have had steam fish head many times in the Chinatown complex. This round, we patronised Seng Kee because they claimed that they were the pioneer stall, as usual, they are busy during dinner time.

We just ordered steam fish head in Hong Kong style and stir fry kang kong. I especially liked the fried lard pieces served with the steam fish, I always ate them all! Frankly, the steam fish head is sufficient for 3-4 people to share and we have only 2, therefore, we add a veggie dish to complete the meal.

We would only order Hong Kong style as the taste was just right with the balance of soy sauce and oil. We did tried bean sauce though, it wasn’t our taste, it was too salty to our like.

I would say this is an economical meal with standard, fish is freshly steamed and veggie is frying once it has ordered, they are not pre-cook food. It is a value for money casual meal, sure will come back whenever I want to eat fish.

Pass by the restaurant many times but never notice its existence or never think that I will patronise it. Until one day I noted their banner outside the restaurant, it was started in the 80s. Then I would think that they could survive for so many years, they should reach certain standard.

3 of us reached the restaurant around 6pm, it was still early for the dinner crowd. We sat at the window table. Once settle down, I liked the decoration and the atmosphere, it really did look like a 80s restaurant.

We ordered lamb cutlet ($17.00++), ribeye ($18.8++) , sausage with steak ($20.5++) and ½ dozen escargot ($10.2++) to share. We didn’t top up for a full course meal, we just ordered the main dish as the portion was good enough to fill up our stomach. First serve the warm garlic baguette slices, it was nice. Follow by escargot, it really was only escargot. If it could have mashed potato together, it would be much better as the escargot contained so much melted butter. Anyway, taste wise it was ok.

Mine was ribeye steak, it didn’t disappointed me. My mom enjoyed her lamb cutlet. Sausage with steak were generous portion, it was good too. Having said that the baked potato was just ok, frankly it wasn’t the type of potato for baking.

Service crew are promptly doing their work. While we were having our food, dinner crowd started to fill in the restaurant, some of them looked like their regular customers as they chatted happily.

I would say their prices are reasonable with the portion of food serve. We will certainly revisit if we want to have steaks.

Pork rib and pig’s tail hor fun Smile May 02, 2013

After spending few hours in the National Library in reading, it is time to fill in some food. Walking around Bugis Junction, I patronised the air-con foodcourt recently and found that prices were a bit high for ordinary food for a casual meal. So I proceeded to Albert street’s hawker centre, there are many stalls and food to choose from and most importantly prices are reasonable.

As usual, I browsed the stalls for idea, finally I settled down with soupy food. At first glance, the 1948 caught my eyes, though I don’t particularly like prawn noodles, it is good that they serve combination of ingredients. I chose pork rib and pig’s tail with hor fun.

First taste the soup, it isn’t oily at all, it is well balance of prawn and meat taste, both married harmoniously. It is soothing to drink the soup and most importantly no msg after taste.

Pork ribs are not over boiled till too soft, it still needs some chewing, as well as pig’s tail. Furthermore, portion wise it is quite generous. I am happy with my choice.

It was the crowd in front of this stall that attracted my attention. I was really happy that Singapore starts selling this famous Hong Kong snack. This is a must eat snack whenever I go home ~ Hong Kong. Frankly, even though it is widely available in HK, good ones need to be found.

This stall serves original, chocolate, cheese and pork floss flavours, whereas cheese and pork floss are hardly found in HK, probably it is the stall owner’s invention here. Anyway, for my first try, I have original flavour plus Hongkong style milk tea.

Waiting time was less than 10 minutes, it was acceptable if only it was GOOD. The egglet was piping hot and milk tea was icing cold. I couldn’t wait to try the egglet, to my disappointment, each egg was too thin, hence, batter wasn’t enough for all egglet (too stingy), at the side of the egglets were half empty. Though it was really crispy, it has no filling inside each egg or very little only. I felt like I was eating crispy egg biscuits. It could be individual case, probably the one who made my order was putting too little batter!

Hong Kong style milk tea, to my surprise, this was authentic, bitter, smooth and not so sweet to taste.

Burger breakfast at T2 Smile Jan 09, 2012

We were rushing to budget terminal for taking plane to Ho Chi Minh but we haven’t had our breakfast, dropped off from MRT at T2, BK was the nearest stall before proceeding to take bus to budget terminal.

I have ordered an omelette, bacon and cheese burger plus a cup of Americano. The burger was huge to me. It has thick layers of omelette, 2 cheese slices and few pieces of bacon, it was really filling though. Omelette was fluffy and generous, cheese was melting but bacon was bit overcooked, it was too hard. I liked the Americano, it was bitter to taste and strong enough to wake me up in the morning.

I hardly have breakfast at BK, but this one could last me a few good hours till afternoon.
