Ever since I have tried Putien noodle at foodcourt, I fell in love with their light in taste noodles. I was really hungry when I was walking at Nex shopping mall that day. There are too many eating places at Nex, I almost lost idea of what to have for dinner, suddenly I saw Putien. It was during dinner time, there were quite a lot of diners already. I like their simple and clean decoration theme. Browse through the menu, I stick to noodle. I chose seafood braised noodle (lor mee) plus century and salted eggs with spinach. While I was waiting for my food, I saw both sides of my table were serving with a small bowl of seaweed and I didn’t have it! Could it be single person did not serve?!?! The restaurant isn’t serve plain water, whatever beverage is chargeable. Thus I ordered a cup of chrysanthemum tea. First they served spinach, I couldn’t see salted egg in it, instead it has already blended into a sauce, the yellowish sauce was the salted egg. The taste was right and light. When they served the noodle, they just left it on the other side of the table, the person who placed the noodle couldn’t bother whether I could reach or not!!! Their service got to review. I liked to taste the gravy soup first, it was light and no msg, noodle consistency was right too, 2 small shrimps with 4 clams, overall taste was fine, no complain and no comment! I will not return for sure because their service and pricey. Having 2 McDonalds meals for 2 consecutive weeks, I got to stop for a while, at first I thought I could collect all colour glasses. Lunch time stopped at Plaza Singapura, walking around the mall and searching for my quick lunch today….McD has no queue, OK ok to myself, I ordered takeaway and returned to office eating it slowly! I have Fillet-O-fish meal this time and bring home a blue glass. If someone likes blue colour, should grab it to avoid disappointment as 2 weeks ago, my friend went to the Harbourfront outlet, the glasses were out-of-stock.

Quickly browse the web before lunch for food idea today, thinking of trying something difference as I have more or less enough of nearby 3 canteens food serve. Seeing the hot sun it puts me off by walking too far, I always miss out the nearby 2 coffeeshops whenever I am looking for work lunch. Alright, let’s try it today. This time I chose rojak and popiah as a change. This little stall is operating by an elderly man with friendly gesture. At lunch hour, this coffeeshop is quite empty though, it isn’t very far from the Tiong Bahru mrt station but crowds just won’t stretch to this location. Menu is simply ordinary rojak either standard or large sizes and popiah. Rojak and popiah look decently in size and presentation. Both ingredients are fresh to me. Rojak has pink sotong, cucumber, you tiao油條, bean sprout, pineapple, dou pok豆卜 and peanuts, the gravy is quite rich and nice, it has obviously shrimp paste, sugar and ginger flower, I didn’t add chilli sauce. Popiah tastes fine, neither too salty nor bland, I also didn’t request for chilli sauce but it has a distinct sweet sauce which enhanced the overall flavour, if it could be wrapped it up a bit tighten, it would be a good humble popiah. I will come back next time when I don’t want to have the usual food, ie mix vegetable rice, noodles, western meal.
Great! have sotong

Great! Hainanese fish maw soup
We couldn’t decide on what for our dinner, we were browsing the eateries at basement of Raffles city shopping mall. We stopped at Thai Express and waited for our seats at 5+pm, nobody entertained us at the moment. Then I turned my head and saw Soup Broth Asia, it sounded new to me, without hesitation we walked to SBA. There was a waitress greeting us and showed us their menu, my friend just has his braces tightened, he doesn’t mind to have something soupy and soft. First of all, the waitress led us to the cashier counter as we needed to place our order and settled the bill prior to be seated. Menu is simple and clear, we choose our soup as main course then add on side dishes as optional. They serve 2 types of rice, either plain rice or yam rice (add $1). We chose Hainanese fish maw soup as it was recommended by the waitress and chicken daikon leek soup, opt for S$4.8 to have 3 side dishes and a drink for each person. We chose wasabi prawn, stew cabbage, soy sauce tofu, sweet & sour pork, stir fried eggplant and Thai mango salad, plus 2 ice lemon tea. We were free to sit any place as it wasn’t full at around 5+pm. Soon after we sat down, they served the drink, soups were coming up then side dishes, the table seemed too small to house all dishes, we got to play jigsaw puzzle in arranging all dishes ourselves. Side dishes tasted good, it gave me the feeling of ready-cooked all dishes for the day so it could be served immediately once patrons placed their orders. I would say the ice lemon tea was too bland to me. I am a Cantonese so having homemade broth type of soups are usual for me. What do I like this place, they display calories for each soup, ingredients they use and last but not least NO MSG. First taste of each soup, instantly I love the fish maw soup, soothing to my throat, taste just right, I kept scooping it and almost forgot about the other bowl of soup. Though taste was really good but they serve pig skin instead of real fish maw! OK, came back to chicken daikon leek soup, the sweetness of the soup didn’t approaching to both of us, plus the chicken taste somewhat unusual, obviously it was boiled for long hours but taste just not right. Confirmed no msg been used, portion wise is quite decent. Whoever wants a mix veggie cum soup meal, this could be a good choice though. I didn't expect there is oven baked breads selling at Chinatown Complex. Whenever I was there, my mind was just telling me opt for Chinese/Singaporean kind of food. I passed by this shop when I was searching for the glutinous rice stall. It caught my eyes because the owner was shaping the breads when I passed by. There were few types of breads, some egg tarts and siew bing 燒餅 ready for selling. Whereas the owner was making twisted breads at that moment. After I bought my glutinous rice, I went to this bakery and thought to get one to try. I heard a lady asked the owner for cheese bread, it was still baking. I wanted a cheese bread too but the owner said it was special order for the lady. Then I bought the last twisted bread with walnut, another lady behind me also wanted the twisted bread too! Oops, I would have it. I didn't eat it straight away. It was for my tea time that day. As I made homemade breads every week a year ago, I have a standard for breads though. This one was soft and light. I would say the second proofing for the dough was just right. Walnut was really fresh and crisp. The bread wasn't too sweet. It is a humble bread with quality.
