Daim Milk Chocolate Smile Jun 27, 2011
Categories : Desserts and Cakes | Ice Cream and Gelato

We like to browse at Ikea snack shop, they sell authentic Sweden food. We specially adore to Daim milk chocolate with crunchy caramel pieces. Chocolate is smooth with the right amount of milk, crunchy caramel adds fun in your mouth when eating it, the crispiness and caramel flavour mix very well with the milk chocolate. Overall, taste is well balance.

Unlike some milk chocolate has a very strong milky taste, it may overpower the cocoa taste, and some chocolate tastes are indifferent, sweet to savoury, or too much oil/butter make it gluey.

Chendol Smile Jun 16, 2011
Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

After my satisfying lunch, my lunch companion mentioned a dessert stall here. She said she gave up waiting the other time because of the extremely long queue. Sounds good, it is always safe to follow the crowd. Then, we approached the stall and there wasn’t a queue at that moment, stall owner was friendly smiling to us as we were guessing for their gigantic mangos displaying at their stall ~ they were fake! While I was browsing for my dessert, there were patrons coming and queue started.

I have chendol today and my friend has simple sweet potato soup. Forget about the calorie, chendol is the second best to ice kacang for my interpretation and preference. Actually I like red ruby more, they have it in the menu but I couldn’t see it in the stall, so I didn’t order.

First sight of the chendol ~ wow, nice! It is covered with a thick layer of gula melaka, ice is shaved to really fine, it almost resembles snow ice, I give it 3 thumbs up! Red beans is cooked to soft and yet in whole piece, it takes technique and experience to boil it till this stage, this way it contains full red bean nutty flavour, otherwise the flavour is gone into water.

For me, the gula melaka is overcooked today, however it is really thick, it has a trace of burnt aroma. It isn’t a draw though as the rest of the ingredients are so good. It is the best chendol I have taste so far. I would definitely come back in trying their other desserts. Worth the trip for a good dessert!

Ice cream Smile Jun 03, 2011

We are not particularly like ice cream, very rare occasions then we would have it. We use to like B&J if we have an urge of ice cream. After we have our msg loaded Korean dinner we decided to have ice cream for our dessert last night. We did have a thought of B&J at first but this outlet was nearer so we chose this one.

They are having GSS promotion right now, buy a quart and have a pint for free. We just wanted to have ice cream then we ordered a pint to share….after some thought, we changed our mind for a quart to bring home then ate the pint at the shop immediately, they allowed us to do so.

2 of us shared a pint, it was quite a lot though. By that time, there was a cheerful crowd of 6~7 youngsters sharing a quart and a pint. Will it be eating ice cream makes people more jovial, I think so. We chose berry yoghurt and chocolate chips with dark chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream. The ice cream was light, delicious and smooth. We didn’t feel it has too much of cream. Therefore, we could finish it easily without the feeling of overeating.

I bought back a quart home and could enjoy it slowly….Yeah!

Coffee fix Smile May 26, 2011
Categories : American | Café

This cafe was featured at a local TV progamme, coincidently I have seen it few months ago. It mentioned that the owner was a photographer, he showcases his snapshots at the shop and there is a photo printing machine conveniently for customers who want to see their best shots instantly. There are some photograhy magazines available for browsing.

We reached there around 2pm, most of the tables were occupied. The usual scene at a cafe as customers were lazily sitting and having their cup of coffee or tea. The aircon was good at such a hot afternoon. After one zip, it wakes one's up. The owner has invested in a good coffee making machine which means they serve good quality coffee with reasonable prices. The prices were about the same as Starbucks.

I like coffee with cake, their cakes were so so to my eyes and I put off the idea of having it.

It is a place for your coffee fix, for a lazy afternoon, for photo lovers too.

Cake cake cake Smile May 14, 2011

Categories : Japanese | Bakery | Café

After reading so many reviews about this little cake eatery, we decided to have a go. A rather small cake cafe, they serve cakes and coffee/tea.....few tables only.

3pm in the Saturday afternoon, we wanted to have a cuppa to wake us up. I long for a piece of good cake alll the times as I have sweet tooth.

Each piece of cake looks so yummy to me, I wanted to try them all if I could. Anyway, we ordered each one a piece only with a cup of coffee in latte and house blend. As you could see the cakes, they were piece of art to me, taste wise, my friend didn't like the one with mashed chestnut. Whereas I was looking forward to eating this one for long. I used to eat mashed chestnut cake in Hongkong, they were so nice to eat.

I would say the owner serves the cakes and coffee with a heart, they were definitely good quality. Price wise, it was a bit pricy though. Average S$8 dollar a piece is slightly higher price than town area.

No harm to have a try when you are around that area.
