Annie's Peanut Ice Kachang Smile Sep 12, 2012

Shiok!

Shiok!

Annie's Peanut Ice Kachang is one of the well-known dessert stalls in Singapore. I visited there this evening just to try its popular peanut ice kachang. mad

The ice kachang is a bowl of coloured shaved ice mountain with condensed milk, red beans, corn and peanuts on it. A spoon of shaved ice with coloured syrup is freezing and melts in the mouth as well as sweet but tastes great when eaten with other ingredients in the ice kachang such as red bean, corn, chin chow and, most importantly, peanuts. The bits of peanuts are crunchy and add a mouthfeel to the ice kachang. You know, I have never seen bits of peanuts on ice kachang before. The peanuts not only make the ice kachang yummy, they make it appealing too. The red beans and corn are soft and sweet. The bits of jelly in the ice kachang are soft and bouncy. And guess what? The whole bowl of ice kachang costs only $2. Just $2, and I can get such a nice dessert. Sweet!

In all, the peanut ice kachang is one fantastic dessert. I don't mind going there for the ice kachang the next time. lol

Hattendo Smile Nov 23, 2017

Hattendo - a Japanese cafe specialising in cream buns situated at Tanjong Pagar Centre.
Kurimupan. Amai! Oishii!!

Kurimupan. Amai! Oishii!!

Check out the stuff I got from the cafe - three cream-filled buns, one in brown being chocolate-flavoured, one in red filled with azuki bean cream and one in green having matcha cream. The buns appeared to be like the ones produced by Gardenia but smaller enough to be snacks or desserts. They are soft, fluffy and chewy on the outside. The cream in every bun is very smooth. The chocolate cream looks, in colour, and tastes like chocolate milk. Enjoying the chocolate cream bun is like having bread served with chocolate milk. The azuki bean-flavoured cream is faintly red and appears to have bits of the red beans in it. It tastes sweet with a sandy mouthfeel. The whole azuki cream bun gives anpan lovers a new tasting experience. The matcha-flavoured cream is light green in colour and has its distinct leafy bittersweet taste. The special thing about the buns is that they come with an ice pack. This not only stops the cream in the buns from having a rancid taste but also ensures that the cream-filled bun is eaten as cold as posible. I guess the meticulousness of the Japanese can be seen from here.

Love the sweets from there. Oishii! smile

Hot Sweet Soup @ Maxwell FC  Smile Apr 07, 2013

Categories : Hawker Centre | Chinese Soup

I was out of a job interview. I was feeling nervous while answering the questions the interviewee gave and less energetic after the interview. I decided to find some hot dessert to cool me down. I happened to come across this stall which sells peanut soup. Well, I decided to have a bowl of it.

The peanut soup is as white as homemade soy bean milk with large white peanut splits in it. The soup is hot, sweet and not thick. It has the distinctive nutty taste of peanuts. The peanuts are soft and mushy. There are also small cuts of you tiao in the soup. The cold chewy cuts of you tiao become warm, softer and easier to be bitten when drenched in the soup. The soup tastes better with some tang yuan. The skin is soft and chewy and the filling is sweet and gritty for every tang yuan. The tang yuan goes well with the peanut soup. lol

The whole bowl of peanut soup is very tasty. The stall sells tau suan and red bean brown rice soup, something that few dessert stalls sell, too. I hope to come there for hot desserts next time when I am free. smile

Korean Cold Noodles for Lunch OK Mar 08, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean

It was lunch period and it was hot in the outside. I was finding a comfortable indoor spot to dine in. I came across this Korean restaurant. The dishes there are offered at affordable prices. Hence, I decided to choose the restaurant as the place for my lunch. When I stepped in, I had the feeling that I was in some Korean countryside. I had one of the chef recommended dishes the restaurant offers, mul naengmyeon, a Korean cold noodle dish.

The cold noodles are buckwheat noodles drenched in cold soup and topped with pickled radishes, sliced cucumbers, a piece of beef, a slice of Asian pear and a slice of hard boiled egg. The buckwheat noodles are springy. They taste like chewing gum because they are hard to be bitten. The soup is watery, refreshing and has the numbing spiciness of wasabi. The pickled radishes are crunchy and taste sweet and sour. The cucumber slices are crunchy and refreshing. The beef is tender and chewy. The slice of pear is crunchy and refreshing likewise. It gives the dish some sweetness. The hard boiled egg adds flavour to the dish. The bowl of cold noodles is accompanied with a bottle of sesame sauce and a bottle of vinegar. The savouriness of the sesame sauce and the sourness of the vinegar quench the spiciness of the soup. There are four side dishes to go with the cold noodles - kimchi, stewed potatoes, stir-fried bean sprouts and fried anchovies with chilli. There are people who say that the taste of kimchi is a medley of all five tastes - sweet, sour, bitter, salty and spicy hot. To me, the kimchi is strongly sweet and sour and mildly bitter and spicy. The stewed potatoes are soft and savoury. The stir-fried bean sprouts are crunchy. The dried anchovies are soft and meaty. The chilli gives the dried anchovies a spicy flavour. smile

The cold noodles was acceptable in my opinion. The environment of the restaurant is cool and calm. There are other good Korean dishes such as dolsot bibimbap and samgyetang and canned drinks imported from South Korea available in the restaurant. Well, if I have the free time, I'll come there the next time. lol
