Fried Seafood Platter!  Smile Jul 15, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : American | Seafood | Halal | Kids-Friendly

It was my first time at The Manhattan Fish Market after reading some positive food reviews about Manhattan Fish Market. I was sat at next to the glass panel and the whole skating rink was in my line of vision. How lucky I am smile

There have this seafood platter promotion for 2 pax and 4 pax. If you order the promotion platter they have 2 complimentary soup of the day and garden salad. They also have a 1-for-1 promotion for their mocktails and 50% off any sides.
We ordered the fried platter for 2 despite having 3 pax. The fried platter includes fried fish nuggets, shrimps, calamari and fried country mushrooms, served on a bed of Garlic Herb Rice and chips with broccoli and carrots.
As we are afraid insufficient food to go around, we ordered another pasta - chick oglio.

The fried platter was surprisingly very good! lol It was the best fried seafood I had ever eaten in my life. The fish was very crispy on the outside and tender and moist inside. It didn't have the unwanted fishy smell. The rest of platter tasted as good as the fish too! The french fries were very tasty too! It was the thick and fat fries instead of those skinny ones. Best fries I'd ever eaten! In conclusion: the seafood platter is impeccable. ^0^

Although Manhattan Fish Market serves mostly seafood, I must say that their chicken aglio oglio was also very delicious. The chicken wasn't overcooked and it was tender and succulent. The spaghetti wasn't too oily and it was perfect aglio oglio I am looking for! lol Found the aglio oglio of my life, it had a strong black pepper taste, not too oily, the spaghetti was also springy and not overcooked.

Well, the garden salad was normal. Nothing to be excited about.
For the mocktails, we ordered the ruby ___ *i forgot the name* and cala cala. I prefer cala cala as it was a little sour and more refreshing. It was also compatible with the fried food I'd eaten, helps to clear my oily palate tongue. The ruby drink was too sweet for my liking and it tasted like bandung. shocked

After finishing the meal, my conclusion was, I would definitely want to go back to Manhanttan Fish Market again! lol

Dinner @ MOF Smile Nov 12, 2012
Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

One rainy evening after school, my friend suggested to visit MOF since we were going to Lot 1 for dinner for she had a good dining experience there and wished to visit it again. lol
I agreed since I'd been seeing lots of photos and raves about the desserts at MOF.

When we were seated down, the first menu I browsed was the dessert menu. I LOVE DESSERTS! <3 I felt I was in matcha heaven after looking through all the items. Every single dessert was my favourite - matcha, red bean, ice-cream - OMG. I was squeaking with joy as I flipped through the menu ^^
In the end, I settled with unsweetened green tea latte and matcha zen which cost $3.30 and $6.00 respectively.

After browsing with the desserts menu, I flipped through the main course menu. I think that was the first thickest menu I have ever seen out of the many dining experiences. The menu was thick and heavy with a wide array of food choices ranging from sashimi, sushi, hotpot, bibimbap, hot stone, curry rice, ramen, pasta etc etc.
I was literally spoilt for choices, so many to choose from! My friend and I took a while to choose our main because there are just too many choices. I settled with a oyako bento which was chicken, egg, onions and mushroom while my friend settled for udon set meal which cost $9.80 and $16.80 respectively.

Oyako bento: I was disappointed with the bento because I thought it was lacking some flavour and "kick" to make the meal feel much more complete and yummy.

Udon set meal: I aren't a fan of udon because of the thickness of the noodles which makes it very chewy if the udon wasn't done well. Surprising, I like the udon. The soup was flavoursome and not too salty and udon was cook properly. It didn't had the unwanted chewy or toughness to it smile The udon came with shitake tempura which was yummy as well. Even though it is fried, I can still taste the moistness and the flavour in the mushroom not just plain tempura flour that mask everything. No wonder my friend like the udon set meal, the reason is simple. Simple and yummy good food. lol

Matcha zen: I have a weakness for desserts. Red bean and green tea is one of the best combination in the world. Bitterness of the green tea gelato matched well with the sweetness of the red bean. The mochi gave the dessert more mouth-feel. A good combination. Thumbs up! (Y) I ordered a mini size for I knew I wasn't able to finish the usual portion. But it seems like the price is still the same as the normal portion...

Soft serve cream: My friend isn't a fan of ice-cream but she loves the ice-cream there. It was very milky and creamy, very different from the usual ice-cream sold in other places. No wonder she loves it. HAHA lol

Green tea latte: A perfect cup of original green tea drink without any sugar. For the hard-core green tea fan smile If you love your drink sweet, it is recommended to order the sweetened one. For it tasted bitter without sugar.

Overall, I love the desserts at MOF. I will probably visit the place again and try out some other mains and of course, desserts ;)

Total bill came up to $45.30 for 2 pax.

Lunch at Ayam Penyet Ria  Smile Sep 08, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Indonesian

I had lunch at Ayam Penyet Ria for the first time and it was really a yummy and worthwhile lunch smile We went in at 11am plus to avoid the lunch crowd and at 12 plus during the lunch hour, the small restaurant was close to full house. This says something about the food at Ayam Penyet Ria. chopstick

I chose to eat Lele penyet which is smashed catfish while my friend had ayam penyet, smashed chicken rice both meals cost $6.90. Lele penyet was really palatable and yummy. The skin of the fish was very crispy and not too oily while the meat is tender and moist. The crisps atop the fish made the rice tasted much more flavoursome when eaten together with the chilli.
The sambal chilli was really spicy, if you're not a fan of chilli please eat it at a small amount. Other than the fish, the meal also had fried beancurd and fried tempah. The fried beancurd was normal, nothing much to rave about and I prefer tempah to be stir fried instead of deep-fried.

We ordered a rose soda, $2.40, as well, it tasted like bandung and was not too sweet. After a spicy meal, a cold drink really does the trick to cool down my burning mouth. shocked

The food was very yummy and was filling too. I will definitely make another trip to ayam penyet ria to eat the food again smile

Spinach Mushroom quiche OK Aug 09, 2012
Categories : American | Coffee

I was studying in Starbucks in the afternoon until my stomach became to growl and it called for some food.
I ordered this spinach and mushroom quiche and shared it with my friend. The pastry of the quiche was just nice, not too thick and dry. However, the fillings of the quiche was too little. There were hardly any spinach inside the quiche. It also lacked some strong cheese flavour. I would like it to be more flavoursome.

Pork Katsu Don Smile Jul 25, 2012
Categories : Japanese

Pork katsu don is fried pork cutlet with egg and onions atop a bowl of Japanese rice and soy sauce.
Ginza Bairin sells affordable tonkatsu and ramen with prices ranging from $12.90 to $16.90. In addition, it does not charge service charge. It saves a lot for my pocket as a student. smile

The pork katsu was tender and a little moist. A perfect piece of deep fried pork cutlet. The food which I loved most, was actually the onion. The onions were a big plus point for the bowl of katsu don as it gives a little sweetness to it, balancing the whole dish which tasted a little too salty for my liking.

The miso soup was thick and flavoursome too. A nice warm bowl of soup to warm up my stomach when the air-con was blowing right at my head. shocked

Overall, I'm happy that Ginza Bairin actually opened at Jcube which is a stone throw away from my house. It makes my life much more convenient whenever I have tonkatsu craving. It saves the trip to travel to Ion Orchard. I will definitely go back to Ginza Bairin to try the tonkatsu ramen! chopstick lol
