hardly change Smile Jul 28, 2012

It has been quite a while since I last visited TAO, but I realised they hardly change the menu. Still very popular is the lamb cutlet. Anyway this is sort of a fusion restaurant, east meets west, japanese meets I dont know which part of the west but well.. just west.

This first dish is pretty interesting, it is a bit like the vietnamese roll plus some pork floss

Hmm didnt really like this dish as i dont fancy fake crab meat.

One of the very popular dishes, the mushroom soup

This was my favourite

This was alright.

The different desserts that we all had that night. Overall quite a creative concept, food is not bad, price is quite attractive too.

Cheap good crowded Smile Jul 28, 2012

Categories : Coffeeshop | Zi Char

Three words to describe my overall experience. Cheap Good Crowded. This is quite a popular Tze Char restaurant, it is well known for its cheap and delicious dishes. Some pretty unique like the milk power pork chop. Pretty innovative and delicious dish. Pair with curry leaves, it is almost perfect.

I love the cockles too! I could have alot alot more of this.

Yes the spinach is also wonderful

Toufu with golden mushrooms is also one of the must order dishes

Sang Mee, I am not a fan of sang mee.. more of a hor fun person but i guess this place is better known for its sang mee than the hor fun.

The ngoh hiang was pretty delicious.

Marmite chicken. I think they need to increase the amount of marmite used. Not much of a marmite taste in this.

This was so-so, wasnt as outstanding compared to the other dishes

was much better Cry Jul 28, 2012

This was the matrix from 7th heaven. Those were the days when seventh heaven was much much better. Anyway it was a hideout for my friend and I, just the two of us would be able to polish off the matrix. So whats the matrix, it is a platter of 12 scoops of ice creams. They still do serve the matrix but it is more expensive and you could no longer choose the flavours. Okie then again in the past we were not suppose to choose flavours but because we were there so often that we got acquitted with the people there and thus had the privilege of choosing the flavours. Now that it has expanded, the place has become more impersonal.
So conclusion, 7th heaven is no longer worth the calories. While they used to be well known for the alcoholic ice-cream, the alcohol content in the present day ice cream had be reduced tremendously, probably making it more kid friendly but less welcoming for adults.

Wonderful Smile Jul 28, 2012

This can be considered as one of my most frequently eaten dish. I love the zhu char kway teow here! The kway teow is the thin kind, it is smooth but yet offers a really nice bite. The soup is wonderful, probably simmered many hours in pork bone and prawn heads. The soup is full bodied, very flavourful add a dose of chili powder and it becomes perfect. Generous portion of kidney, pig's heart, pork, intestine and pig skin. If you are into eating the innards, this is the perfect bowl of noodles for you!

Cheap and good Smile Jul 28, 2012

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Teochew | Dim Sum | Seafood

I chose the yummiest dishes amongst all the other buffet items we had. I was surprise by the crowd on a week day 3pm. Maybe it is due to the groupon offers? Or maybe cause it is a youth day holiday. But anyhow, judging from the crowd, i knew that the food cant be too bad. Oh yes i didnt have high expectations.. ha maybe cos it was a groupon offering.
The other surprise I had was the push trolley method that this restaurant adopts, so retro! It functions like a banquent style where all the diners are offered the same dishes at one time.

This is quite unique, fried durian prawns. Yummy!

I love the black seasame bun, bite into the bun and thick creamy sesame oozes out

this is the custard egg yolk bun, not bad

egg tarts

char siew sou

Kueh pie tie is a unique offering for a dim sum place

I think this is the delicious beef tendon.

Overall a very satisfying meal, cheap and good!
