Curry Rice OK Jul 10, 2012

Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Coffeeshop | Porridge/Congee

Just a couple of steps from my place is a popular Hainanese Curry Rice at Upper Serangoon Road. This rustic eating house only opens at 6pm daily.

The first thing that caught my eyes was the steamed Minced Pork Patty that was shaped into a huge ball shape. The patty was nicely marinated with a springy texture.

The Sotong was a bit overcooked. It did not have the firm and springy texture. The sauce was also too sweet for me. I would prefer it to be on the spicy side.

The Curry Chicken was not up to my mark. I find it too bland and watery. It was not spicy at all.

The Cabbage was soft and stewed perfectly retaining the sweetness of the Cabbage.

The thinnly sliced bread crumbed Pork Chop was a bit dry and tough.

Overall I find this place is a bit overrated but then it is still very popular with people staying nearby. A queue can always be seen at the eating house. By the way, the congee here is pretty good.

Drinks OK Jul 10, 2012

Something unique about Chomp Chomp is the drink stalls. They simple to outdo each other with huge jumbo glass. Stall 25 located at the end of the food centre besides selling your normal soda drinks, they also have drinks such as Lychee and Soursop.

We ordered both the lychee and soursop drinks at $3 each. It is served in a jumbo glass. The lychee drinks used canned lychee which as disappointing. The drink is also diluted with water and ice so that it is not so sweet. The soupsop tasted much better, sweet and refreshing.

Green Kway Teow OK Jul 10, 2012

I have been exploring the Circle Line lately and the train brought me to Pasir Panjang MRT station where Pasir Panjang Food Centre is located. The food centre is just right beside the exit of Pasir Panjang MRT station. During the construction of the Pasir Panjang MRT station, the food centre was basically hidden from the public. With the opening of the rest of the stations on Circle Line, business is slowly streaming back to the food centre.

have read about the "green" Fried Kway Teow at Pasir Panjang Food Centre with interest and made my way down to try it. The Fried Kway Teow turned out to be quite interesting with lots of vegetables covering the Fried Kway Teow. However the noodle was dry and had a burnt taste. It was rather disappointing.

Prata OK Jul 10, 2012
Categories : Indian

I am back at Tanjong Katong again to check out the area and noticed that Jalan Kayu The Prata Cafe has opened there. Now there are more choices for the residence staying at the area.

I ordered both the plain and egg prata. They were fresh, fluffy and not greasy. Although the prata was good, the service was rather slow. It seems like the staffs were not familiar with their roles and restaurant operation.

Fine Cuts is located at the basement of The Central at Clark Quay. Besides selling premium meat and seafood, it also has an open concept dinning area. I tried their dinner set for 2 at $33+ which came with a soup and drink. I thought I was a catch for premium meat at such price. I was disappointed when I realized the selection was limited and the set meal excluded kobe, wagyu, black angus, kurobuta pork.

I ended up ordering the Salmon and Lamb Chop. I wanted my Lamb Chop medium not it was overcooked. Nevertheless, both the Salmon and Lamb Chop were good but not great.

If you want value for money and avoid the crowd, Fine Cuts set meal is worth considering. Go for the ala carte menu if you don't mind paying a bit more for the premium meat.
