Lady M is situated near the entrance of the mall, and the all white cafe is indeed very eye-catching. Lady M, unlike its name, is a place not only for the ladies but anyone who enjoys mille crepe cakes or cakes over a pot of tea. And that was what I did.

We ordered the signature vanilla mille-crepe cake and the very creative checkers cake (resembles a checkerboard of vanilla and chocolate sponge cake). The vanilla mille-crepe does not disappoint. In every bite, you taste the fresh vanilla cream sandwiched in those layers of crepe. Likewise, the checkers cake's dark chocolate ganache enveloping the vanilla/chocolate sponge cakes is all rich and intense.

Both cakes are so rich in cream that they fill you up very quickly. Go for a pot of tea and take sips between each bite to enjoy a really good Lady M afternoon tea.

Located close to Outram Park MRT, this cafe offers a selection of local delights (e.g. laksa, noodle soup, black sesame paste, barley with ginko dessert) at friendly prices (under $10). It has a comfortable setting for dine-in.

We ordered the laksa and mango pomelo dessert. The laksa tasted average, considering that we could get tastier versions at cheaper prices. Sugar Granny cafe is better known for its desserts such as the mango sago pomelo. However, in this case, I found it less flavourful as I would have expected.

Considering the affordable prices and comfortable cafe setting, I wouldn't mind dropping by for a quick dinner fix in the area. There is definitely room for improvement in terms of the food.

Fantastic green tea frappe! Smile Oct 22, 2013

Categories : Café

Besides donuts and coffee, J.Co does have something else on the menu to boast of. For non-coffee drinkers or green tea lovers, do try the J.Co Green Tea Frappe. Made from blended Matcha green tea, ice and milk, it is indeed a surprise to find that J.Co's version of the green tea frappe ($6) does make the mark!

Besides enjoying your cup of green tea frappe, the J.Co outlet at Tampines 1 does provide a very cosy space and environment for a read or a chat in small groups.

However, there is some room for improvement in terms of the service (since the ordering and collection points are different) and they do mix up your preferences e.g. with whipped cream or without. Do a check with the staff to make sure you get what you order.

A vintage style cafe well hidden at Arab street, this place is adorned with many posters and items from the older days in Singapore. Dong Po Colonial cafe is known to sell traditional pastries using recipes from 1950s and 1960s.

Though I must say I have no idea what cakes from 1950/1960s looked like, the cupcakes and pastries in the display counter look simple enough and nothing too fancy like the cupcakes we see today.

I packed a box of pastries for takeaway and they include chocolate twirl cupcake, pineapple tart, almond macaroon tart and the coconut tart. Each item costs between $1.70 - $1.90.

I was most pleased with the chocolate twirl cupcake, considering that it looks like a simple cupcake with chocolate cream topping. The chocolate twirl topping has a very intense chocolate flavour and the cupcake is soft and fluffy, making this a very worthy buy. Next, the pineapple tart comes in the shape of a boat. The pineapple filling tastes fresh and tangy and comparable to those quality pineapple tarts that we can get during Chinese New Year season. It would be fantastic if they do make and sell these in bottles for festive and non-festive seasons, though the price of each piece is not cheap. The almond macaroon tart looks like a smooth macaroon shell in a tart. It does taste of almond and not too sweet as I would expect from a macaroon. The coconut nut tart is baked to a crispy golden brown tart and the filling is soft and chewy.

In all, I am pleased to find such a traditional bakery cafe with quality pastries at affordable prices and I wouldn't mind coming back again to do a takeaway of their unique and yummy pastries.

Fantastic pies! Smile Aug 22, 2013

I got to know about Windowsill pies via Savour (a gastronomy event) where I bought my first two Windowsill pies - Grasshopper and Strawberry Lemon. Both pies were awesome leaving me wanting for more. Hence, I had my second serving at the shop itself located at Horne Road, not far away from Lavender MRT. You can spot the pie shop from its fairy tale themed shopfront. Stepping into the shop (or as they put it 'the woods'), you can choose to be seated near the entrance (next to the pretty looking window sills) or cuddle up to the giant teddy bear which is seated under the tree.

There is a range of delectable looking pies ($7.50-$8.50) to choose from and teas to go along with the pies. We ordered the S'mores and Coconut lime vodka pies which are some of the more popular pies in the shop.

S'mores is a dense chocolate pie with marshmallows and is definitely a hit with chocolate lovers and sweet taste buds. Coconut lime vodka , like the strawberry lemon pie, has a tangy citrus flavour with vodka jelly.

We also ordered a pot of tea to go along with the pies. We definitely enjoyed the pies at Windowsill Pies and will come back for more.
