Better Alternative to Subway Smile Jun 18, 2012

Categories : American | Fast Food | Burgers and Sandwiches

It was my first time visiting a Quiznos. Always walked past the outlet at Orchard Central but I guess it never quite appealed to me.

This time, the only reason why I budged was to give in to my boyfriend's request to try it out.

I love the comfortable sofa seats and the very welcoming ambience (as compared to the rather 'saturated' Subway restaurant setting).

But being a first-timer, I didn't quite get the ordering system was like at Quiznos. I actually thought it was like Subway's such that you could select your bread, the vegetables and dressing... but apparently, not.

Anyway, although I did expect the meal to be even more mind-blowing than it was, I must say that the sandwich and the soup tasted really good.

It's definitely worth the try! lol

Hidden Gem Smile May 21, 2012

While in search online for a place to celebrate my brother's birthday, I came across Hokkaido Japanese Restaurant.

Located all the way at Turf City, we knew it was very far compared to where we lived at Changi but we thought of giving it a try.

At only $33.90++ per person with a menu spread like that, it seemed pretty worth it.

The restaurant was extremely crowded, but the lady boss was very hospitable and she kept apologizing for the long waits. But I must say, the waits for the food to come were really long and it made it quite frustrating for us.

From observation, there were actually a few large tables with customers who frequent the restaurant. They were so at home, making small talk with the lady boss.

And of course, it wasn't surprising because the food there was really good in fact.

If not for the inconvenience of the location and the poor crowd management, I believe they'll do much better.

Everything Asian Under One Roof Smile May 18, 2012

Categories : Asian Variety | Hotel | Halal | Buffet

Visited Asian Market Cafe for the first time with my boyfriend for our third year anniversary. A close friend of ours recommended the place to be good for local and Asian food.

We're both huge fans of buffets. He loves the quantity, I love the variety, and we both are constantly in search for both of that plus quality.

Our initial expectation of the restaurant was quite high because it's situated in a hotel.

However, upon stepping foot into the restaurant, we were quite surprised by the profile of diners around. They seemed under dressed (short of better words) and rather sloppy.

Thankfully, the food there saved us. The spread was extensive with all sorts of Asian food - from the cold food selection leading all the way up to desserts. We were ecstatic!

The laksa was very lemak, the popiah very smooth and full of flavor, middle-eastern food tasted very authentic, and our local food was yummy!

I love the durian paste as well, but I don't quite get the little icey bits in the paste. Otherwise, it would have been perfect. The Portuguese egg tart is a must-try too!

The service was very good at first. They were fast and responsive, and seemed happy to serve us. But at the later part of the night, it seemed like they were ignoring us and unwilling to clear our table.

Best Eurasian Food Smile May 18, 2012

Went to Quentin's for a simple Mother's Day dinner celebration last week.
I wasn't too sure it would be a good idea at first, especially with all the negative reviews I've read all over the internet. People mentioned bad service and food that didn't meet their expectations.

I guess it was a blessing in disguise. My expectations were so low that I ended up being rather pleased with the dining experience.

The food was wonderful, but indeed, the service needs some improvement.

We ordered the Chicken Devil's Curry (their much-raved about dish), which was yummy! I'm Peranakan, so the level of spiciness was okay for me. I would have loved it to be a little spicier though tongue

We also ordered the beef steak, as recommended by the waiter. I actually enjoyed it a lot, even though I'm not very much into beef.

Then, we also had chap chye and squid ink calamari. Both were good, but nothing worth the two thumbs up.

Great For Chilling Out OK Mar 05, 2011

Categories : Singaporean | Café | Restaurant

Visited Romulus for the first time today.

I was quite apprehensive at first because it was quiet and empty. But I must admit that the place looked very well done up.. It looked warm and cozy, and seemed like a great place to rest and chill.

So I ordered Waffles with a scoop of chocolate ice cream and a regular cup of Cafe Americano.

Service was pretty quick and got my Coffee within 5 mins. My waffles came less than 10 minutes later.

They were generous with the serving portions. Both the ice cream scoop and the waffles were huge!!

Tastewise, the Americano was quite average for me - nothing new. The waffles were crisp on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside. Yummy stuff. I must add one thing though. The ice cream tasted weird. It had a very strong milk taste yet wasnt creamy nor rich. It seemed like they added a lot of water before freezing it to become ice cream, making it icey on the surface.

The service was also something much to be improved on. The guy at the order counter was unfriendly and cold. He didn't smile and lacked energy in the way he spoke.

Later, when this same guy served me my Americano, I requested for Equal sugar and even said "please". He looked annoyed, grabbed the normal sugar away and walked away as if I was making his job difficult. He returned and placed the Equal sugar on the table and did not even bother looking at me as I said thank you.

Thank goodness the dining environment was pleasant enough or I'll probably blacklist this place in the future.
