Katsu Zaru Soba Set Smile May 26, 2013

Zaru Soba Set

Zaru Soba Set

One of the best things I like about Tonkichi is their deep-fried "katsu"! A worthy place for you to pig out over some sinful, breaded and deep-fried meats. This time round, I decided to go for a cold soba dish so I ordered their Katsu Zaru Soba Set ($24.90) It even comes with Chawanmushi too.

I love how the Japanese like eating everything with sesame seeds. Even for cold soba, they gave me this small bowl of sesame seeds with a pestle for you to grind the seeds (or lightly crush them) to get the flavour out.

Usually I would put crushed sesame seeds into a hot bowl of ramen, but seldom do so for cold soba..

Their pork cutlet is as amazing as always. Albeit deep-fried and unhealthy, but the crispy and buttery crust is super awesome! The meat inside is also cooked just right and you can still see the light pinkish glow of the meat. I don't usually eat a lot of deep-fried food, but it's always good to have some once in a while.

Chicken Soup Pot Pie Smile Feb 24, 2013

Tokyo Chicken Soup

Tokyo Chicken Soup

The Tokyo Chicken Soup is the only 'clear' soup I could find on their menu. The other choices looked too creamy for me since I was only looking to have a light lunch. I decided to get the Pot Pie set ($10.50) to go with the soup, which included salad on the side and a drink. I expected the pastry to be baked together with the soup bowl, but instead, it was just a removable piece of puff pastry placed on top of the soup bowl. The soup was very sweet and had a lot of healthy ingredients in it - radish, carrots, lotus root and other vegetables. The chicken meat was also very soft and was probably boiled for a long time to achieve that tenderness. Overall, I had an enjoyable lunch at The Soup Spoon and will definitely come back here to try their other soups!

Monster Curry Combo Challenge! Smile Jan 20, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

Monster Curry is one of the newer restaurants to open at ION's basement. It's located just in front of the basement food court. Well, I usually have a small appetite but decided to challenge myself to the MONSTER EGG CURRY COMBO ($24)! It came on a massively huge plate (which is super heavy) and had Fried Shrimp, Chicken Tori Karaage, Omlette and an Onsen egg. Monster CUrry is famous for their curry which apparently has over 14 different spices and vegetables, and is cooked over a period of 2 days so that you get a deep, rich flavour to the curry.

Personally, I'm not much of a curry fan since I don't take spicy food. But like the usual Japanese curry, the curry here was more on the sweet side and wasn't too spicy for me. You can actually choose 5 different spice levels that you want (the hottest is Level 5: Monster Hot), but the service staff did not ask us for our individual spice level and probably served us the Level 1: Normal Hot one.

The restaurant is usually packed for dinner and they do not have many seats, so be prepared to queue for about 15 - 20 minutes if you decide to go on a weekday. overall, the food was good but the service staff lacked friendliness and were rather clueless/ not helpful when we asked them about our order.

Beef Prosperity Meal

Beef Prosperity Meal

One of the things I look forward to during Chinese New Year is the Beef Prosperity Burger at McDonald's! Although I usually don't take spicy stuff, the black pepper sauce in the Beef Prosperity burger gives me a kick. And I'll definitely eat at McDonald's whenever they have a promotion for curly fries, which doesn't come by so often. But the salty, crispy texture of curly fries is just awesome! The Mcfizz orange drink is also not too bad.

Huge Servings Of Pasta Smile Dec 25, 2012

Yakitori Chicken With Wafu Sauce Pasta

Yakitori Chicken With Wafu Sauce Pasta

Located in a deserted corner at 313 Somerset, you wouldn't even know this restaurant exists unless you happen to be looking for it. The portions here are huge and the Yakitori Chicken pasta I ordered is cooked al dente and came out just nice. I especially liked the flakes of seaweed on top too!
Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Cake

The lunch set I ordered also came with a serving of Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Ice Cream! The cake was served warm with a scoop of chocolate ice cream on top and strawberries. The cake was rich and moist, just the way I like it. Will definitely want to try out their other pasta dishes on my next visit here!
