Dinner @ House of Seafood Smile Dec 06, 2014

My wife won $100 dining voucher to be utilized in House of Seafood chains of restaurant. We decided to try out the branch along Upper Serangoon Road.

Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre reminded me of Golden Miles Complex - especially the look and feel of the interior shops. We took a while to find the restaurant which is located on the third floor. The directional signs put up by the restaurant along the way are useful.

House of Seafood is famous for their crabs! Their famous crab dishes include Black Pepper Crab, Chilli Crab, Golden Creamy Butter Crab and Salted Egg Crab.  If this is your first visit, I will highly recommend you to try their Black Pepper Crab for a start. The price of the crabs depends on the weight of the crab and accordingly to the seasonal market rate. Hence, please enquire the price with the restaurant Captain prior to order of crabs. As we have tried their famous crabs previously, we decided to skip the crabs and try other a la carte seafood dishes.

We ordered Braised Beancurd with Fresh Crab Meat, Scallop with seasonal Vegetable, Coffee-flavored Pork Ribs, Fish Maw and Crab Meat Broth, Fried Chicken with Honey Sauce and Fish Fillet with vegetable. Among the dishes, my first personal favorite dish was Scallop with Asparagus. The scallops were fresh, huge and chewy. My second personal favorite dish was the Fried Chicken. The chicken meat were marinated with honey sauce which made it really tasty and delicious. The Fish Fillet were very fresh and it helped as it was not too filling.

The rest of the dishes tasted reasonable and comparable to other equivalent seafood restaurants. Please take note that the serving for the fish maw was too huge for the two of us. Luckily, the restaurant Captain recommended that we ordered the smaller size. You need to enjoyed the broth while it was hot or else it would become too starchy.

TungLok Xihe Restaurant is located on the 7th floor of Orchard Central. You will not miss the authentic looking entrance once you step out from the lift.

We heard so much about the peking duck and we had really wanted to try the famous peking duck. However, you need to wait for 50 minutes and the two of us probably cannot finish one duck by ourselves. Hence, we opted for the Set Lunch which costs SGD$58++ per person this time round and will return with more family members to try the peking duck.

Double boiled live prawn and scallops with superior soup served in young coconut
The first dish served was the hot soup. I liked the refreshing broth. There were fresh prawns and scallops in the soup. They served the soup in a coconut which is something different.

Steamed cod fillet with shredded ginger and "Chen Pi"
The cod fish was smooth and not too "milky", and I liked it prepared this way, steamed it and eat it while it is hot. The serving was not too huge and it was just right.

Pan-Fried Kurobuta Pork
The pork ribs were tender and soft and easy to chew. I love the presentation!

Stir-fried asparagus with fungus and macadamia nuts
The only vegetable dish served, the combination of asaparagus, fungus and macadmia nuts was quite interesting. I love the macadamia nuts the most and hope that they had put in more nuts to this dish.

Fried rice with Dried Conpoy and Seafood
I found the fried rice too plain and luckily they provided me with green chillies to go with the fried rice. The presentation is nice and the serving was too generous for one person.
Fried Rice is average but the presentation is nice.

Double boiled Hashima with Almond
I was too full to enjoy this hot dessert. The hashima has a strong distinct almond smell and taste. It would be nice if they had substituted this dessert with chilled mango pudding.

Overall, a decent place for a reasonable set lunch. The ambience is nicely decorated and the food and customer services are acceptable. I still hope to try the Peking Duck one day!

Our office is located at The Metropolis. My colleague invited some of us for an early Christmas lunch at IKKI Izakaya Japanese Restaurant (located in the same building)which is within a very short walking distance from our office.

IKKI Izakaya was opened a few months ago by Adam Chen, who has already opened a number of other eateries in Singapore over the years. The restaurant offers 95 seats and the interior design of the restaurant is modern and blended with casual Japanese arts and drawings.

For the lunch menu, there is a wide variety and selection such as Set Lunch, Sashimi, Sushi, Maki Roll, Rice, Udon and Appertizers.

As we went for the lunch as a group, each of us ordered something different. I ordered the Fried Chicken Set. For $12 a set, I was served the fried chicken, a bowl of miso soup, a bowl of rice, a bowl of salad and two slices of watermelon, which was quite value for money. The fried chicken were delicous and the servings were generous with big chunks of chicken pieces.

My colleagues ordered other popular dishes such as Salmon Teriyaki Set, California Maki, Ebi Mayo Maki Prawn Tempura with Mayo and Sesame seed, Udon Broth & Bara Chirashi, Tempura Set, Tuna Sashimi Don, Stir Fried Giner Pork Set etc. The quality of the food was reasonable. It would be consistent with what you can get from equivalent Japanese Restaurant. However, the food were delivered promptly which delighted us. The waitress were also polite and provided satisfactory customer services.

Overall, it is a cool place to hang out, especially since it is so near to our office and we do not need to find car park space during lunch peak.

Pizza Lunch @ Ricciotti OK Dec 25, 2014
Categories : Italian | Restaurant | Pasta

Ricciotti Pizza Pasta Deli was opened at The Riverwalk in 2004 and in 2006, Ricciotti expanded and opened its second restaurant at China Square Central. Ricciotti has always been my choice for authentic and affordable Italian gourmet food in Singapore.

I've earlier tried their "1 for 1 pizza or pasta promotion" at their Star Vista Outlet in October 2014 with delight and it was actually quite value for money. Hence, I invited two friends for a return visit for the same promotion.like

We did not make any reservations and we were seated down comfortably upon our arrival. I like the wooden interior decorations. The staff were friendly and introduced us the Italian food available under current promotion and those in the ala carte menu.

We ordered two types of pizza and one spaghetti to share among the three of us. The Spaghetti Marinara costs S$23.50. The Spaghetti was served with calamari, clams, sea scallops, prawns, cherry tomatoes in light tomato sauce. If you like seafood spaghetti, you will enjoy Spaghetti Marinara.
This spaghetti serves with calamari, clams, scallops, prawns and tomato.

The Carnivora Pizza costs S$18.00 for the 9 inch size and S$25.50 for the 12 inch size. The Carnivora Pizza was filled with honey baked ham, chicken, spicy salami, minced beef, pomodoro and mozzarella cheese.

The Prosciutto Cotto E Funghi Pizza
costs S$15.00 for the 9 inch size and S$21.50 for the 12 inch size. The Prosciutto Pizza was filled with ham, mushrooms, pomodoro and mozzarella cheese.

I like the thick crust for both pizzas.
However, among the two types of pizza, I personally preferred the Prosciutto Pizza as I like the ingredients mix (ham and mushrooms).

The "1 for 1 promotion" is limited to either "1 for 1 pasta" or  "1 for 1 pizza". This means that you order one type of pizza, you will get the other pizza for free. You pay for the higher priced pizza. You cannot order one pizza and hope to get a pasta for free and vice versa.

Overall, I enjoyed our lunch at Ricciotti.  I would recommend this place to fans of Italian cuisine. Ricciotti also offers daily weekday special promotion at their Star Vista Branch. For more details of the offer, you can visit their website.
