Rice Dumplings OK Jul 11, 2013
Categories : Singaporean | Hawker Centre | Stall / Kiosk

I heard that this stall's rice dumpling is quite nice hence I decided to get some of the dumplings home for lunch during weekends when my mum does not cook. I bought a mixture of 3 nonya dumplings and 2 normal pork dumplings. I ate the pork dumpling. The dumpling is more of rice than ingredients, but that said, I thought there is a good balance of both lean and fatty meat. The mushroom is quite hard to bite as it is rather dry. There are two chestnuts in the dumpling as well. I am not really a fan of chestnuts, so I ended up having not much ingredients to pair with the dumpling rice after giving the chestnuts to my mum. Overall, I would think this dumpling still beats the other dumplings that I had eaten before.

Mixed rice OK Jul 11, 2013

Categories : Food Court

I ordered a packet of mixed rice for myself and my mum to share because we had a buffet lunch and we are still quite full from the lunch. I chose 4 items, long beans, steamed egg with minced meat, sliced potatoes and fried tau kwa. Although we ordered 4 dishes, from the photo you can see that actually the fried tau kwa portion is really very minimal. Tastewise, of the 4 dishes, my favourite will have to be the minced meat. The minced meat is not too fatty and the egg is able to maintain its smoothness. More importantly, it is not too salty. I love to mixed it up together with the rice and eat it together. The long beans are quite oily so I will not order that again. Otherwise, the other two dishes are quite average tasting.

average fare OK Jul 10, 2013

Categories : Korean | Food Court

I was at a loss on what to order and I decided to just order from the korean stall since it is quite near to where I was sitting. I ordered the tofu soup which comes with steamed rice and side dish of ikan bilis and kimchi. The set costs $5.90. I waited quite long for my dish and other customers who came after me got served first, so I thought that was quite a bad service since my order is just tofusoup and not the hotplate types which needs some time for cooking.

Anyway, that aside, I thought the amount of ingredients given was reasonable. There are quite a lot of tofu in the soup, but I was quite disappointed that the tofu is egg tofu as I thought the normal plain tofu would suit the spicy soup better. There is also an egg in the soup and two clams and some other ingredients which I forgot. Overall, I think it is just average fare.

fried rice OK Jul 10, 2013

I wanted something more filling so I went ahead and ordered the normal fried rice from this zi char stall. The waiting time is quite alright, I got my rice in less than 10 minutes. Based on my understanding, if you ordered the salted fish fried rice, it would cost 50 cents more. The normal fried rice costs $4. The fried rice is quite nice, adequately flavoured. I also felt that the rice is what we call in chinese "li li fen ming", but that also means that there is quite a lot of oil used in frying the rice. Although the taste is good, the ingredients are quite minimal, and this would make me think twice about ordering fried rice from them again.

Dinner OK Jul 09, 2013

After my work, I went to the nearby hawker centre to tabao rice back home. I usually order two vegetable dishes and one meat dish for my vegetable rice as it provides a more balanced meal. Today, I got the bittergourd which is stir-fried with egg, tofu cooked with minced meat and lastly, gong bao chicken. The gong bao chicken is unlike any other gong bao chicken that I had as the spiciness was totally absent. Otherwise, the taste is pretty alright. The tofu is very soft and it is very delicious when paired with the minced meat. The bittergourd today is also not too soft and the egg helps to add more flavour to the otherwise plain bittergourd.
