almond pie Smile May 01, 2013

Categories : Bakery

I wandered in to Four Leaves bakery while waiting for my friend to arrive. I was just browsing the selection of breads when I saw this almond pies. This looks very similar to something that I had in hong kong previously and I loved the taste of what I had previously. Hence, I decided to buy it and try it for myself. One packet costs $3.70. I am glad I got it, because the taste is really similar to the one that I had in hong kong. The "pie/biscuit" is very crispy and flaky and it is sweet as well from the light sugar coating at the top and a little salty for the rest of the layers of the pie. I would think it is best enjoyed on the same day to retain its crispiness. I would definitely buy it again!

ondeh ondeh Smile Apr 26, 2013

Categories : Peranakan / Nonya | Bakery | Desserts and Cakes

After our shopping, we are slightly hungry and we decided to proceed to the stalls at the basement to grab a bite. We bought a box of six ondeh ondehs. I only remembered to take a photo of it after my mum and I each had one, hence there is only four in the photo. It is really tiny but full of flavour! The mini ondeh ondehs just burst when you bite into it, such that you get to taste all the yummy guala melaka that is at the centre of each ondeh ondeh. What I appreciate about the ondeh ondeh from Bengawan Solo is that almost all of the ondeh ondeh are intact, there are very few times when there is some guala melaka that has seeped out. Each box of ondeh ondeh costs $2.40.

Spending per head: Approximately $2

Earl Grey Milk Tea  Smile Apr 26, 2013

Categories : Taiwanese | Bubble Tea/ Tea

There is a special promotion going on for shoppers with birthday treats that can be enjoyed if you have the discount coupon. There is an April baby amongst us, and this entitles us to a free Earl Grey Milk Tea with pearls from Gong Cha IMM. I shared the drink with the person whose birthday is in April, and we ordered it with zero sugar level. The tea tastes quite creamy and milky, and it is this taste that helps bring out the flavour of the tea and slight sweetness. Personally I enjoyed it a lot though I think zero sugar is not as healthy as thought since it is probably made up with more creamer/milk added. The pearls are just normal, I prefer Koi's pearls anytime. If not for the coupon, this will cost $2.80 per cup, regular size.

taiyaki Smile Apr 26, 2013

Ooki taiyaki has one of the best taiyakis in my opnion. I love the pancake batter, it is not too sweet and yet it has a very nice fragrance and taste. There are many different kinds of fillings, and the cheapest one cost $1.40. I bought the red bean and custard taiyaki which costs $1.40. The custard is really good, it is not too sweet and there is substantial custard filling inside the taiyaki. The pancake tastes best when eaten on the spot when the exterior is slightly crispy and the filling is warm.

chicken rice Smile Apr 24, 2013

Categories : Hainanese | Chicken Rice

It has been quite long since I had the chicken rice here so when my dining companion suggested this place, I was more than willing to come. The wait is quite fast if you are in a small group since they will usually arrange for you to share a table. After you are seated, immediately, they will serve the rice and cut the chicken for you. I got the traditional steamed chicken. The chicken is really tender and the entire piece with the fats just melts in your mouth. To wash of the oil, we also ordered the oyster vegetables as our greens for the meal. It is a place I will

go back again.
