Wanton noodles OK Dec 02, 2014
Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Coffeeshop | Noodles

For lunch yesterday, I ordered from this wanton noodles stall as the queue is short and the photos of the dish looks very appetising. I chose the fried wantons instead of the non-fried wantons since I am ordering a takeaway and I was afraid the skin of the soup wantons will be all lumpy when I got back. The noodles did not get all soggy when I ate it half an hour later. The noodles retain their bite and are quite yummy with the sauce that they use to season the noodles. The wantons are also nice and it is still rather crispy. The char siew is normal though. I love the chili as it is quite spicy and is really heats up the noodles. For the chili, I will patronise again.

Economic rice  OK Dec 01, 2014
Categories : Singaporean | Chinese | Hawker Centre | Rice

I wanted something fast hence I joined the queue for economic rice as it is the fastest moving queue. The dishes are aplenty since it is lunch time and understandably, there are more varieties of dishes to get people to buy from them. I got a total of three different dishes, bitter gourd, chicken and fried tau kwa. The bitter gourd is cooked just the way I like it as it is not too soft and the bitter taste is quite mild. The spicy chicken is also rather nice as the chicken meat is tender. The downside is the large amount of oil used. Overall, it is an alright lunch.

red bean taiyaki OK Dec 01, 2014

Categories : Japanese

My friend and I are walking around Raffles City when we spotted this small stall opposite Cedele. It sells takoyaki and taiyaki and being taiyaki lovers, we decided to get a taiyaki each. There are savoury fillings like ham and cheese and sweet fillings like custard and red bean. I got the red bean pancake which costs $1.80. My friend got the custard which is also priced at $1.80. As there are already spare taiyakis made beforehand, we got our taiyakis immediately. The taiyaki is already cooled, but the exterior is still rather crispy. The pancake is comparatively thinner and this will make a light snack as it does not occupy too much stomach space. I quite like the red bean filling as it is moist and not too overly sweet. That said, I would prefer Tai Parfait’s taiyaki over this.

dry ban mian Smile Dec 01, 2014

Categories : Coffeeshop

I ordered a bowl of ban mian for takeaway. As I live quite far away from where I bought the noodles, I ordered the dry version instead so that the noodles wouldnt get too fat from submerging in the hot soup on the journey home. The ban main is topped with ikan bilis and fried onions on top and since I ordered the dumpling ban mian, it is topped with dumplings instead. The cooking time of the noodles was grasped well by the stall owner as when I got home, the noodles are still springy and it did not get too limpy from being overcooked. There is sweet savoury sauce that the owner added to the bowl as well as chilli which makes the noodles really tasty. I didn't know dry ban mian can be this nice. In addition, the dumplings are also good. It is adequately seasoned and it has a good mix of lean meat and fatty meat. I will definitely buy from this stall if I am there again.

Yummy and authentic korean food Smile Dec 01, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Korean | Food Court

Over the weekend, I had my dinner at Kim Dae Mun. Even though I was there early, at 6pm, surprisingly, there is quite a lot of people already in the eatery. It is my first time trying it out and I ordered the kimchi soup with pork which costs $7. The soup comes with rice and a side dish. There is also brown rice available at an additional charge. The portion of the soup is huge. I was expecting the normal food court kind of pot, but the pot here is so much larger and full of ingredients. Granted, bulk of the ingredients are kimchi, but still, it is a lot. The soup is also tasty and not too overly salty or spicy. Some kimchi soups that I had at food courts are more towards the salty side such that it makes drinking the soup difficult, but not the soup at Kim Dae Mun. Besides kimchi, there is also tau kwa, egg and some glass noodle in the soup. The pork is lesser though but as I mentioned, it is more than compensated by the large servings of kimchi in the soup. I will strongly recommend this place for authentic and affordable Korean food!
