My friends and I had reached the restaurant at around 1240pm. I had expected to be greeted with a crowded restaurant given that it was the dreadful lunch hour hence I was pleasantly surprised to see only two groups of diners having their meals there. We ordered the lunch set which set us back at around $14 after service charge and GST ( $10.80++) which consist of a salad ( with a choice of garden green or coslow), soup ( either soup of the day or potato soup with vegetables, with an additional 2 bucks, you can upgrade to either wild mushroom soup or seafood chowder) and a main dish that comes with vegetables and rice. For that price, I would think that it is affordable since if you are to come in for dinner and order from the a la carte items, the total cost will definitely be much more.

Nice garden salad with tangy lemon- I really love the refreshing taste of the lemon

Soup of the day- Spinach soup with garlic bread. The soup does not have any tinge of spinach taste and the soup was not served piping hot ( quite a letdown)

My main course- aromatic rice with grilled dory fish and chessy sauce. The fish was grilled to perfection and I liked how the sauce had complemented nicely with the fish though I find the rice a tad too hard to chew and to me the rice tasted like coconut rice though my friend begged to differ, saying that it might be chicken rice. Nevertheless, I find that the taste of the rice do goes well with my main course, though it can get a little too 'overloading' towards the end of the meal.

Service wise, the staff which served us did not have a good command of English and a qualm that I had was how I was given a malfunctioning plastic cup- that leaked and created a small puddle of water around the cup. All in all what I enjoyed most was the nice view, through the window of the harbour- surely a nice place to go on a date in. Given the steeper price of the food, as suggested by other diners, I would suggest heading there for the lunch set!

Terriyaki Chicken set @ Just Acia OK Nov 05, 2012

Teriyaki Chicken set

Teriyaki Chicken set

This is the place to go if u want to have free flow of drinks and ice-cream and a relatively reasonable set meal in the city. My friends simply adored this place for these reasons and I really think that it is worth the price if you are a big eater- to 'exploit' the free flow of drinks and ice-cream. It can be pretty crowded, especially dinner time, even on weekdays, hence my advice would be to try to reach there earlier.

For food, I wouldn't say that it is fantastic- the terriyaki chicken set was pretty average- chicken with terriyaki sauce and I find the sauce a tad too salty for my liking. The drinks you get there are pretty common- cola, ice lemon tea, tea, coffee etc and I personally not quite like the ice cream over there- the flavours you can get are the typically vanilla, chocolate, strawberry etc. At least the set meal portion for me is reasonable and satisfactory but if you can fork out a bit more money, I would suggest you to go somewhere else for better food.

what a let down Cry Jan 23, 2013

I should have heeded the advice of the fellow open-ricers on this restaurant. There was often a long queue outside the place and the ever friendly waiter was always greeting potential customers eagerly at the entrance and serving cold drinks to those in the queue. The posters pasted outside the restaurant were also quite attractive as they boosted about the black and white ramen. Therefore glancing at the short queue at 12pm, I decided to give it a try.

The interior of the place is actually very small and honestly, I felt quite claustrophobic, especially when my bf and I were ushered to this tiny corner right next to the open concept. Therefore u can imagine one's difficulty in trying to get in and out of the seat without actually bumping into the patrons next to you. Surprisingly, food was served extremely fast, within 5 minutes after we have ordered. However, the noodles are not served piping hot which I feel is very crucial in enjoying a bowl of japanese ramen.

My boyfriend ordered the black cha su ramen. His was served lukewarm and the soup base was very salty.

For me, i ordered the white cha su ramen. Even though mine was served slightly hotter, my soup base was far more salty than that of the black ramen! Its as if a bottle of salt has been added in by mistake! The serving is also really small and not satisfying. For $12.90, I had just two pieces of cha siew ( of which half is fats and skin), half an egg, some leek and a piece of seaweed.

It was quite scary to find a piece of used napkin hidden beneath the 2 pieces of napkin that came along with the chopsticks since the remnants of the stains strongly resembled that of the red ramen, of which none of us ordered. That was indeed a turn off.

Definitely not going back there again even though the service is good since for the price, this meal is definitely too expensive and the recommended ramen is not highly recommended at allsadsad

disappointing ban mian Cry Jan 22, 2013

I have always loved handmade noodles for its lovely texture compared to the mee pok or yellow noodles which I often dislike for its 'artificial' flavour. This noodles is a big disappointment since firstly, the soup base is too oily and salty for me. Secondly, as seen from the picture, I was merely given a few strands of vegetables and 2 mincemeat 'balls'- of which they were evident in the picture. The noodles was also average. Hence overall I was not satisfied with the meal at all.

This will be my last time eating the Chinese Cooked Food at the deck. The quality of the Chinese cooked food has deteriorated over the years that I was in NUS- the portion used to be far bigger than what was shown in the picture. Even though there was no price hike compared to some other stores at the deck, the portion has become ridiculously smaller. Again it depends on who was the one dishing out the dishes to the plate- the aunty used to be very generous as compared to the uncle but unfortunately she has become more stingy, more often than not counting the number of pieces to be given. I had decided to give the store a shot after I was put off by the other long queues such as at the Muslim, Indian, Yang Tau Foo stores etc during the my short lunch break.

Look at the pathetic pieces of chicken I was given, and many of them were actually chicken skin. Even though I had paid $2.20 for a meal that supposedly consisted of 1 meat and 2 vegetables, yet the number of chicken chunks given was far less than the black fungus. The vegetables was a big disappointment- you may be thinking how bad can it get when it was just green vegetables. Well the vegetables was actually badly overcooked with a strong aftertaste of charred food. The potatoes was very oily too, which gave your lips a nice shiny gloss after eating it.

All in all, if you want to seek a filling healthier meal, please do not patron this store, especially when you are a female as I have observed throughout the years that the aunty and uncle seemed to love giving larger portions to guys and school staff ( with their distinguishable staff tags hanging in front) and exchange students ( and more specifically Caucasians ).
