Honestly, I can't tell the difference between the 2 pizzas until the owner came over to introduce his pizzas Both contain mushrooms and topped with melting mozzarella cheese. I can't tell the pizzas apart until closer inspection. The Dorshe pizza contains red capsicum. What i do not like is that the topping is separated from the pizza dough- which is neither fluffy thick nor crispy thin.
Catania Pizza ($16.80) chicken and mushrooms
Dorshe Pizza ( $18.80) beef and mushroom
There is a strong butter taste in the soup. I can taste and eat the pureed bits in the smooth mushroom soup.

The mashed potato tastes too powdery for my liking. There is too little sauce as well. A chicken sausage on a stick is stuck into it, presented in a paper coffee cup and eaten using plastic teaspoon. More can be done to the presentation of this appetiser.

Charlie's 4 Seasons ($6) are a new invention by the chef.
The sparklers create quite a stir when they came. However, they are just an aesthetic decoration that doesn't affect the taste of the drink. You need to blow away the ashes from the plastic cup after they fizzed out. But sparklers are great when you are celebrating your birthday here!

I particularly like Summer, which is a concoction of zesty orange and carrots. Not a fan of mint, Spring's not for me. Autumn has a taste of strawberries and apple, but it is overly sweet for me.( picture of menu)

Very squeezy eating at the long table. I keep knocking into my neighbours and even knocked over my bowl of mushroom soup!

(Left) The honey glazed Charlie Wings ($8.80) is nicely marinated, no wonder it's the bestselling dish in the cafe. Better if accompanied with a beer!

(Right) Charlie's Fried Chicken is not fried consistently. The first plate (seen here) looks overly charred, the next plate is light brown and the last plate is fried perfectly with a golden brown hue. It looks pretty, garnished with parsley, but it is a bit too salty for my liking. I eat the fried chicken with the mashed potato to balance out the saltyness.Only drumsticks and thighs are served. The drumstick is huge, in fact, as big as the squarish plate! A set containing one piece chicken costs $13.80, served with greens, mashed potato or french fries.

In general, Charlie Brown Cafe serves decent western food. I think youngsters will like this cafe, not forgetting Snoopy and Peanuts lovers. I hope the dining table and the plates can be bigger as many a time the pizza or chicken is spilling over the edge of the plates. The crew does not change the plates frequently. More can be done with the cutlery and plates for a more comfortable dining experience.

This was my first food tasting session at Charlie Brown Cafe, many thanks to OpenRice for sponsoring this tasting.

tasty but petty portions OK Nov 05, 2012

I bought a $60 voucher (at half price) and hence paid Soup Restaurant at nex a visit. The restaurant was half full at 5.30pm as it was a Sunday. The waitresses (mainly chinese PRC) were not on the floor and we waited 8-10mins before we got someone's attention. As the old-school menu was just in words (English & Chinese) and there were no pictures so we did not know what to order. We ask for recommendations of must-try dishes but the restaurant manager just pushed the set meals (for 2/3/4) to us. In the end, we settled for their signature dish -chicken with garlic/ginger dip ($15.90++), broccoli with scallop ($16.90), claypot tofu ($8++) and new dish - honey glazed pork ribs ($12.90++), rice ($3.60++) and tea ($1.20++ each). The bill added up to $72, without the towels and peanuts.
The chicken was indeed their signature dish. It is silky smooth and flavourful on its own with the garlic/ginger/chicken oil dip, without any hainanese chicken rice chili. We first timers were not taught how to eat the dish as we found this lettuce that accompanied the dish. We wanted to order the Beggar's Chicken-flavoured Rice but it was not available. The chicken was served way early even before the rice and tea. So, we waited while staring at the already-chilled chicken turn colder. When the other dishes arrived, what stood out most was the quantity (or lack of quantity) of the food. The size of the claypot of the beancurd is probably smaller than a normal cap. The beancurd is deep friend and soaked in a thick gluey sauce, you can find limited bits of (quite hard) sea cucumber in it. The veg - broccoli with scallop cost the most but the plate was equally small (think dessert plates at buffets) Amount of scallop was again very limited and it looked more like a garnish. The honey ribs were chopped into tiny pieces (think size of nougats). The dishes were in general, flavourful and plate presentation was good (especially the chicken) but the portion could be a little too tiny for 4pax. I asked for the bill but was told to bring the invoice to pay at the cashier myself, so do not expect much of a service here.
