For more reviews, visit http://www.umakemehungry.com/2015/06/singapore-fried-hokkien-mee.htmlMy colleagues were talking about the best Hokkien Mee in Singapore and few of them suggested Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee in Whampoa Hawker Centre. From what they said that really stirred the interest in me. Besides having known the place for their fish head steamboat, rojak and chicken rice, I never recalled trying Hokkien Mee in this vicinity, perhaps if I do its like couple of years back where the place was before their upgrading scheme. With so many Hokkien Mee stall in one place, don't get your attention drift to somewhere else. Business name is easily remember with "Singapore" as the keyword and queues at the stall was ongoing. What I find funny was that instead of serving plates of Hokkien Mee through their main stall entrance, there was this lady who stood at the metal ladder steps from the side of the stall and all orders are to be made and served there. Mee (Noodles) were cooked in batches and fortunately even though the queue was long, my wait was less than 10 minutes. At the first look of the plate, presentation looked standard with squid, lime, mixture of yellow and white bee hoon with a scoop of chilli filled with lots of seeds. No doubt the wetness level maybe adequate with a gooey appearance, it lacked the oomph and did not really meet my expectation of this highly raved plate of Hokkien Mee. Seafood flavours were not distinctively enough and it did not really help even by relying on their Sambal Chilli to enhance the taste. Hopefully such thing was a once off thing, perhaps the time of visit was not too right but still we had all taken noted they were one of Singapore's favourite with such long queue. continue reading

At this food centre, there is really no reason you are unable to find a good food that suit you most.  I am thankful that my friend brought me here to try a few local delights, which one of the best which I have tried is the hokkienmee here.  Noodles are very chewy and portion is generous.  The prawn stock used in this dish is very flavourul and delicious. The basic ingredients such as the fresh prawns and cut squid are very fresh and crunchy.  Also enjoyed the sambal chilli here which is quite spicy and the chilli pasteis very fragrant.  For the price of $4.00 per plate, is definitely cheap and good! The stall helper is friendly and was very patient taking orders. Dining area was quite warmbut is still spacious. continue reading

whether the weather is goodhokkien meewhether the weather is nothokkien meewhether the weatherhokkien meewhatever the weatherhokkien meewhether you like it or not!I think that pretty much is my love story for this plate of hokkien mee.I've never had a bad plate of this. The noodles are always fried al dente with enough bite yet be able to lock in the juices from that umami gravy that it's simmered in and stir fried on demand. The turnover for the noodles are high, promising a fresh plate of hokkien mee every time. The prawns are fresh and squid rings ample. The chilli? They have peanuts in that and that's really the special part about that. perfect complement to the noodles. $3. Comfort food. continue reading

In Whampoa here, it is always a long queue everyday at this stall. It has one of the best Hokkien mee in town, it got a very tasty flavour and thick sauce too. I do eat this almost everyday, and the ingredients are fresh and generous. Once you eat it, you will always remember it. What's more, the price is very low here for the quality you are getting. continue reading

Whenever I'm at my grandpa place, I'll go to Whampoa Market Place for Hokkien Mee... after that there's a renovation going on plus my grandpa moving out so a super long touch didn't went there...So this time we were near by, we drop by to try...It's not too wet and not too dry...The ingredients they use are also always fresh - so there's no fishy smell... A must-try!!The sambal here was very tasty and not overly spicy...And the pork lard, oh the pork lard, one of the best I had ever tasted... Light, crispy and so fragrant. The combination of the noodles, chilli and pork lard really made my day...!! continue reading
