At the youth park, there is a small open air food court. Very small as there is only 5 stalls. One of the stalls is this one which sells pinoy style food such grilled chicken and grilled pork. I have the 1/4 grilled pork belly (Lechon Liempo) which costs $6.50 and served with rice. There is free flow soup to help yourself with. The soup tastes quite sour to me. But I am surrounded by lots of birds waiting to attack my food while I am eating. Quite stressful eating at the open air place. The staff serving me seems to be more busy on the phone as he is on the phone all the time, even when chopping the meat or clearing the tables.

Located at the Kopitiam outside the National Youth Council, Mang Kiko's really only has 2 things on the menu--belly pork, and chicken, both roasted over a charcoal flame. Yesterday a friend and I went, lured by the promise of roast pork. So we pigged out and split an order of roast pork and half a chicken.

It's really good value--$6 gets you either 1/4 chicken or a portion of roast pork, and complimentary tangy soup. Our orders was $12 for the pork and $10 for a half-chicken. There are also 4 kinds of dipping sauce (some variation of chilli-and vinegar or soy, mostly) to experiment with. The pork was chopped small, like siew yoke. There was a nice charred taste from the charcoal flame, and the fat was creamy, but unfortunately the all-important crackling (skin) was hard rather than crispy. So the search for good lechon continues. The real winner was the chicken--just lightly smoky, the meat juicy and tender all the way through. No wonder there was a queue throughout the time that we were there! I'll definitely be back.

Each time that I head over to Cathay Cineleisure for movie, I will have my meals at the food court downstairs. Little did I know of this hidden gem tucked right in front of the building, near to the youth park- *scape! At $6.50 per plate of the famous belly pork rice with a bowl of soup, I would think that the price is a little steep, but given the huge serving, I would think that it is worth the price. At $6.50 per plate of the famous belly pork rice with a bowl of soup, I would think that the price is a little steep, but given the huge serving, I would think that it is worth the price. I was a little disappointed with the pork though and even my friend (who had been a regular patron of the stall and the one who has recommended me this place) agreed in unison. The skin (which is supposedly the best part) is not crispy at all, making it a gruelling experience while attempting to chew the meat. It is best eaten with the sauce since the meat itself is too dry. My friend believed that the meat had been left aside for too long since it was not served piping hot. What a pity. Maybe next time i will head there to throw the chicken which I heard will definitely be more tender.

Sometimes when I happen to pass by this Kopitiam, I will buy back their roasted pork belly rice as this tastes really good! The pork belly are quite big in portion and the pork skin has been roasted till really crispy and The pork meat is also not too oily as well. The fragrant chicken rice used here is also equally delicious and goes really well with these yummy roasted pork belly. Price is reasonable and you may expect long queues during lunch hours.

how can we not try this? Crispy roasted pork belly with rice, the best combination ever! kind of similar to what chinese eat (siu yok rice) but the skin of this pork was surprisingly thick compare to the chinese one. Infact, i dont really like their rice, its just normal rice they serve.
