My friend and I ate at Charly T's for dinner one day because we were bored of the choices at Plaza Singapura. We ordered a wrap and a sandwich as well as a cheesecake. It was smooth and savoury and I really liked the crust base. The strawberries were not very fresh but did a good job in adding to the overall taste of the cake. Recommended for an after dinner treat.

This is the first time I visited Chaly T's. Not knowing what to order, I followed the staff's recommendation by ordering some of the signature dishes of the restaurant. I had Mum's chicken soup ($6) to start the meal. The soup does have the 'mum's cooking' flavour. With lot's of ingredients including pumpkin, the soup tastes naturally sweet. However, I find it weird to be served with cracker. Popcorn chicken ($8) are tiny in pieces and very crispy. Nice to snack on. Kalua Pork ($16) basically is

Kalua Pork ($16) basically is a pork belly skewer. The pork seems a bit too dry though it tastes Ok to eat with the yummy gravy.

The Cordon bleu chicken ($14) is a disappointment though. The chicken breast is a big too thick, and doesn't balance well with the portion of ham and cheese.

As for dessert, we had Kaishersmann ($14), a strong recommendation from the staff. The pancakes and raisin that served with honey syrup are indeed very good.

my friends insisted on heading to charly t’s for dinner but I had already eaten. Not to be a mood spoiler, I ordered their fries to eat with the guys. the fries at charly t taste really good, it is so crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Even though we sat there for quite some time, my fries did not turn soggy. I recommend this if you are there!

First time to Charly T’s. We have to order our food at the counter rather than having a waiter serving us at our seat. Hence a large group will be crowding around the cashier to decide their orders, which I thought was quite chaotic. We ordered the chicken with Chermoula sauce which was yummy! Other than their ordering methods, I think I would like to go back there to try other dishes.

I'm a globe-trekker myself, just like Charly. So I was eager to find out what kind of food they're offering @ Charly T's.

The 1st dish was a great start - the Spanish Omlette (S$8.50), which was also one of my favourite on the menu. Very interesting taste – sour & a little spicy. I love the potato cubes which were crunchy & went well with the German Sausages.

Food on Sticks - Kampong Amber Chicken (S$13.50), came with the Garlic Rice & served with Chimichurri & Kampong Amber sauces. The Chimichurri is a mix of parsley, red wine, vinegar & red pepper, while the latter is Charly T’s version of Satay peanut sauce. The Chicken is much tastier than your usual satay & goes well with either of the sauces. I like it!

Discovered in Germany, Charly T’s Signature Dish finally arrived – the Rotisserie Chicken. Whole (S$42), Half (S$24), Qrt (S$13) - all come with choices of Sauces & Sides. The famous Chicken takes 13 hours to marinate in Charly's secret spices & 50 mins to give the exterior a special crisp while sealing in the juices. I must say it has certainly lived up to its name. Chicken was juicy & so tender that the meat falls off the bone easily. Thumbs-up!

Next on the stick was the Kalua Pork, served with Fresh Vegetables. When I first heard the name, I was fully in anticipation as I thought the pork is marinated in the coffee flavored liqueur – Kahlua. But I was totally wrong. The word Kalua literally means "to cook in an underground oven" & also describes the flavour of food cooked in this manner.

The Kalua Pork uses the 3-layer pork belly, but it wasn’t fatty at all. Due to the cooking process, all the fats have melted. While the top layer was tender & practically melted in my mouth, the bottom layer was dry & I found the pork a little bland. It fell short of expectation.

Cajun spices were used in their New Orleans Beef Salad (price unavail). The medium-raw striploin was succulent & delicious.

Their Vanilla ice-cream tasted somewhat "organic" as they use no vanilla essence at all; only made with the goodness of vanilla beans. I'd a chance to savour their seasonal item – Pineapple Tart ice-cream. This was the best of all. It wasn’t too sweet & taste was unique. Love it!

All praises went to their Waffle, infused with Chocolate Chips (S$7) & drizzled with maple syrup. Waffle was crispy on the outside & I love biting into the choc bits. Their full-size waffle is just S$7. Must try!

Charly T's cozy atmosphere is suitable for families or hanging out with friends. Food sharing is highly recommended here so you can taste their different specialities. I was told that this friendly eatery is like a concept store to test out their recipes to see if they’re acceptable to S’poreans, & an expansion is also on the cards.

An easily missed little restaurant which is seated in between The Cathay and Plaza Singapura is how I would describe Charly T as a very first impression. The very common reply would be "oh, that little restaurant, I've walk passed before but have yet to try it."

Yes, that's the one. Charly T's interior design gives passer by a false impression that it's a "atas" little place which sells food at high pricing and small serving. The truth is just a glass door away and you will be surprise by the food they serve and the pricing.

The restaurant serves food from different countries and not typical " Laksa from Penang or Sushi from Japan" kinda fusion but food such as spanish omelet , ice cream sandwiches from LA and German's coleslaw.

This is a very good place to be if you are looking for a new experience with food.

Spanish Omelet on their breakfast menu. Pretty much the same food you can find in your typical English breakfast, egg, sausages, bread and potatoes. Instead of the typical way of cooking, you can see from the picture that the egg is a wide omelet and the sausages are dices and lay on top of the omelet. The sausages are actually done with salsa sauce.

They have a total of 8 "additions" or more commonly known as sides. Each sides cost $4 but comes together with their Rotisserie chicken and wraps depending on your order. My personnel favorite is actually the butter garlic rice. You can actually smell the aroma upon it being served. It might look a little less appealing due to the lack of colors but the taste is actually very rich. And the other to mention is actually the authentic German coleslaw. I've no idea how authentic it is but all that matters is how good it tasted to me. It's much more sour than our local coleslaw and it is not at all creamy. It is very appetizing but it might be a little too much for the non-adventurous foodie.

On top of the interesting food Charly T serves, they have up to 9 different types of unique sauces for you to go with your food. They have 3 different level of chili sauce and their own version of "satay" sauces.

On top of what I have mention here, they also serve a wide range of wraps, food on sticks and even dessert. Their waffles is a must try !

The best part about Charly T (besides their awesome food) was actually their opening hours. It operates till 1am on weekend on top of that they will actually customize certain food off the menu to your liking. For example, vegetarian friends can actually get them to remove certain meat item off the food and they will actually charge you according without the charges of the meat item. That's service if you ask me !

I’ve been to Dhoby Ghaut plenty of times and each time I walked past CharlyT’s, I’ve always thought it was just another Western cafe/bistro/restaurant. And to add to that, I didn’t even know the place was called NOMU. But nevermind that, as for CharlyT’s it is not just your regualr Western cuisine joint, but rather a doorway into a selection of International Cuisine that Charly himself experienced while he was globetrotting throughout the continents when he was younger.

And to start off a weekend treat, CharlyT’s presented the Spanish Omelette ($8.50). Only available on Weekends and Public Holidays from 9am to Noon, the Spanish Omelette wafted a light savoury fragrance as it was served. Accompanied by fried potatoes and toppings of tomato and chunky spam, this is tastily eaten with the side of crispy dilly bread made from dill and cottage cheese. Its hard to go wrong with a fragrant omelette and oh do ask for a serving of cream cheese to spread all around that piece of toast.

Perhaps the most obvious dish would be the CharlyT's Famous Rotisserie Chicken. With up to 12 chicken being roasted rotisserie style at any one time in the chicken, wafts of marinated crispling roasty poultry is sure to slowly make its way to diners. Each chicken is marinated for over 10 hours in a mix of herbs, spices and sauces and thereafter roasted for a good 50 minutes before served.

The result? Juicy chicken with flavours well seeped through and a skin that is a medley of savoury, pepperish and slightly honeyed tones. It was the best dish for the day. And it comes in Quarter, Halves and the whole bird ($13; 2 sauces 2 sides,$24; 3 sauces 3 sides ,$42; 4 sauces 4 sides)

This ORTU foodie session was so filling that I probably was too stuffed to even have another meal after that. Dishes like the Sesame Terriyaki Chicken Wrap and the New Orleans Beef Salad are also must trys.

Charly T's is a place for an introduction into flavours from places around the world, and its dishes can be a good conversation starter for any table.

we got to choose 4 side dish as well. we choice the Macaroni and Cheese, Roasted Potatoes, German Potato Salad and Coleslaw. all taste really good. i love their generosity in giving alot of cheese for the macaroni and cheese. the german potato salad taste really refreshing, love the sour cream sauce!

in all it was a hearty meal. yum yum, never had so yummy chicken in a long long time.

The star here seems to be the Half Chicken ($23.95), which is served with three sauces and three side dishes. The star here seems to be the Half Chicken ($23.95), which is served with three sauces and three side dishes. The chicken itself was a surprising delight – I always fear whole chickens to be dry at some part or another, but our whole half-bird portion was moist and tender throughout – even the breast meat was acceptable (this from me, who avoids breast meat whenever possible). The spice blend marinade that was left to soak into the chicken for 16 hours before roasting gave great flavour to the juicy chicken. Charly T’s pride themselves on using fresh, chilled chickens only – chickens that were still running around the day before and none of the frozen stuff. The little touches seem to truly make a difference – way better than old timer K Rogers.

The three sauces we chose were Charly T’s original #2 Spicy sauce, #3 Hot sauce, and Chimichurri. In all honesty the chicken didn’t need any sauce at all, and I ate most of the chicken without the sauces so as to fully appreciate the well marinated chicken. However, I did take the breast meat with the sauces (breast meat is breast meat afterall). Don’t let the labels “spicy” and “hot” fool you, there’s little kick to the sauces, nothing like what you get on hot wings. The Chimichurri is probably my favourite, with the parsley, red wine vinegar and red pepper creating a tangy mixture good for the blander breast meat.

A new addition to the Charly T’s menu, the Sloppy Joe ($6.50) was what actually drew me in. We chose the beef version, although they also make a chicken version. Sloppy joes are a completely underrated type of burger! Instead of a solid patty, the filling is a mixture of ground beef and onions, held together with a slightly sweet tomato sauce, and all topped off with a slice of cheese that’s completely melted over the messy filling. You can see why this thing’s called a sloppy joe – it’s supposed to get all messy upon eating. I loved every bite of this wet, messy burger, with the sauce making the hamburger buns soft and slightly mushy. It’s not for everyone, but for me this tasty burger will hands down beat a dry hamburger anyday.

The biggest disappointment of the day was probably the dessert of Honey with Fig and Dates waffle ($4.95) accompanied by a scoop of vanilla ice cream (add $2). The waffle was plain and tasteless, with no hint of honey or fig or dates other than some small bits found here and there. The scoop of ice cream was tiny and not spectacular, so the whole thing was pretty much a waste of stomach space.

All in all, I’ll definitely be back for the chicken and the sloppy joe, but perhaps not the dessert options.
