Ho Kee Pau shouldn't foreign to Singaporeans. This fairly old establishment has 14 franchise outlets all over the island. I'm not a fan of their franchise outlets mainly because I don't find their paus or dim sums amazing. The humble bowl of wanton noodles comes with a generous portion of char siew (roasted meat) and it costs just $3.50. More importantly, the char siew is nicely marinated and well cooked so that you won't feel that you're biting on stone. I absolutely love their noodles. It is the typical kind of wanton mee noodles, slightly translucent and not too yellow (unlike the pontian wanton mee noodles). After sitting in the sauce for a while, the noodles will absorb that goodness and become oh so glorious. The noodles are springy and have a really good bite to it (yes even after the soy sauce bath they had).
Every bowl of noodles comes with a small serving of dumpling soup. Honestly, I could easily eaten 20 of those dumplings. They are small (sits nicely on the spoon) but good. The skin of these little babies is so thin and delicate but definitely not soggy. Within the skin of each dumpling, there is a sweet and juicy ball of meat accompanied with a crystal prawn.

Having family yum cha session on a Friday morning, we came to Ho Kee Pau at Geylang area. Expanded from a small food stall, it was a very famous traditional Chinese style coffee shop locally. The portion of each plate was small and cute, it was how a scrumptious feast start. Signature Siew Mai was must try item, it was filling and bouncy. Prawn dumplings were solid and filling, I ate total up three pieces. Always squeeze a generous amount of chilli sauce, it enhanced the overall taste. A good place to gather and cheer up, their price was reasonable guaranteed.

not a fan of the buns here. the pastry skin does not hold up to steam at all and we had to hold the plastic bag folded down and blow on the buns, so that the steam does not ruin the bun pastry. the staff should have provided other types of container instead of plastic, which makes the bun pastry melt into a sticky mess. the filling is not great. the char siew was overly sweet and fatty. the staff is pretty unhelpful and very pushy. not impressed by the buns at all. not recommended. this is the c

I gave into my temptation when i walked past. I decided to get a prawn dumpling for only $1.00. The filling was made up of real prawn and prawn mixture. It was nicely wrapped in a thin layer of skin then deep fried well. It did not have any stale taste but tasted fresh. I could taste chunky pieces of prawn in it. This is a good snack to go in between meals and 1 is never enough and 2 will be just nice.

Craving for supper in the middle of the night. This place is opened till late. I had a plate of wanton noodle. The service was fast and there wasn't too many people. The noodle was well cooked, springy and well seasoned with the black sauce. The wanton and char siew was nicely cooked as well. The dumpling was soft and smooth and meat was well marinated. There's lots of vegetables but mostly are stalks =(.

gosh, look at the filling. does it look like real carrot? it is very odd. and did not taste like carrots. it looks like fake carrot. the pastry falls apart and sticks to the plastic bag. very bad. and the filling is not good. too salty. their prices are super over priced. one rice dumpling costs more than $3 and it's not as good as other places. their buns are also more expensive but they do not taste as good as other places and their fillings and pastry are obviously inferior. not recommended a

I love dim sum ha kao! the ones they are serve are nice and not dry like the others. They also have a variety of other food like the siew mai, carrot cake, egg tarts and more. Its crowded with people at night and we were seated in a back alley which was first experience for me. But the food is still great and good service and fast speed too!

My favourite snack from Ho Kee Pau is the fried prawn dumpling. I can actually taste the chunky pieces of prawns in it. The size of the fried prawn dumpling is quite big sized. They fried it very well so not very oily. Each one is for $1.00. I always get at least 2 fried prawn dumpling as 1 is not enough. I also like their fried beancurd skin. It is at $1.00 too.

Their beancurd skin roll has always been my favorite. The filling of minced meat, black fungus and carrot cake was nicely wrapped in a sheet of beancurd skin. It was nicely fried with no rancid taste and not oily at all.Other favorite snack has to be the prawn dumpling. The whole piece of prawns can be found in it together with prawn paste and nicely fried too. Recommended.

I am a fan of their prawn dumplings ( both fried and steamed version). The skin is kind of thick but this could be because it need to be thick to hold the amount of prawn fillings, the prawn is really alot! They are so nice that I couldn't stop eating. simply love it!
