My friend introduced me to this Wanton Mee stall at Hong Lim Hawker Centre. The Wanton Mee Kia had a heavy aroma of pork lard and savoury special sauce. The special sauce tasted like char siew sauce with hoi sin sauce. Their mee kia was unique, different from others, a bit thicker and springy like kolo mee. The Char Siew was very good, roasted on the outside with very sweet malty taste. The Char Siew meat was tender and fatty.

The wanton in the soup however was small and less meaty. The minced meat marinated was good in the wanton, I could taste the crushed dried fish in the wanton meat.

It was by chance that I tried this wanton mee and it was only after that that I realised it is a famous stall. As I was there at around 4plus in the afternoon, there wasnt any queue. (Went on subsequent occasions during weekends lunch hour and the queue is really long). Saw people eating the wanton mee and it looked really appetizing which attracted me to try it. The black sauce is really good and fragrant! I specially like the noodles they use, slightly thicker and different texture from the usual wanton noodles. Every good little things, from the ingredients to the seasoning/sauce to the noodles, add up to a delicious bowl of wanton noodles.

I happened to be there at about 5 pm and about half of the stalls in this food centre have already closed so i was left with very limited choices. The wanton mee from this famous stall was a choice out of convenience. I was given the option from $3 to $8 for selection. I wanted the $3 portion to take away. I did not expect it to be served in a plastic container without an extra charge. A good portion of mee kia was served with 3 pieces of wantons together with few slices of sliced mushroom and

The mee kia was slightly thicker than others. It was cooked well to give it a delightful chewiness at just the right softness. It tasted really good after tossed well with the sauce underneath. I requested to have an extra amount of chilli added and it tasted really nice. I particularly enjoyed the wantons. It was rather plump with well-seasoned minced meat as its filling.

This is definitely one of the better wanton mee around.

Honglim Food centre has alot of tasty food as introduced by my friends. One of the stall is Ji Ji Wanton Noodles. I bought a bowl of the signature dish at $3+ and thought it smells like those Malaysia Black Sauce Noodles and indeed it tastes like it! The texture of the noodles is so different from the usual wanton mee bought outside. Generous amount of mushroom, Charsiew, Wanton, minced meat and vegetables. Worth queueing and trying!

Ji Ji Wanton is THE place to go for in Hong Lim when you want quality noodles at reasonable prices. They have dumpling noodles and hor fun too but wanton noodles is their specialty. Their noodles are springy, char siew is firm and wanton are plump and juicy. The queue may be long but it is worth the wait. Usually, the wait is not that long as they are very efficient unless it's during the lunchtime peak.

I bought the $3 portion of noodles. The noodles come with char siew, some mushrooms, vegetables and wantons. You can request for either fried or non fried wantons. I chose the fried ones and it is very crispy and the meat is juicy. The wantons are bite sized and they are great to munch on. The noodles very nice, the texture is good with some bite in them and the gravy used to season the noodles also complements the noodles well. The char siew meat is tasty too with a good mix of lean meat and fats. I wouldn't mind waiting up to 30 minutes for it!

This has always been one of my favourite. It tasted towards the Malaysia style type of wanton noodle and this is particularly so with the added slices of mushroom. The noodle has the springy texture that i loved and it's slightly thicker than the usual noodle served by its competitors. Noodles are cooked al dente. The very nice smelling char siew does not contain fats and meat is tender enough. Wanton is of considerable size and tastes not too bad, just that it was a little dry on the inside. Chilli here is so-so but their green chilli is fresh! Try this stall if you're more into char siew meat than the noodles
