The long queues during meal times are very significant for Lau Phua Chay even though their stall was tucked at the very far end corner of Alexandra Village Hawker Centre. With media articles and programs, they are quite well known for their Authentic Roasted Delicacies. A walk through the hawker centre, you will notice stacks of emptied dark green dishes lying around on the hawker's tables. Their business is so good that even cleaners have a hard time to catch up with the number of dishes distributed. We had the Char Siew and Roasted Meat Rice. The gravy that Lau Phua Chay used on their roasted meat is always as delicious and unique. When they had them scooped over the rice, it had turned our rice from the pearl white into black. It may look unsightly but do not judge the cover of a book, it tasted better that what we had thought.
The usual gravy are either the thicker kinds in gluey form or watery base in a smooth texture. However, if you notice theirs, there is a stark difference, fragrant and some residue within. Char Siew was well barbequed, letting out the smokey flavours in its caramelized form retaining its juice and tenderness. Savoury! Likewise for roasted meat, its cripsy and yummy! The bowl of soup that comes along in the meal had to be mentioned as well. Soup was clear with sweetness and shreds of meat within. Simple yet addictive! Being one of their repeated patrons, I'm quite happy with their food. Perhaps they can do a little improvements on their service attitude.
