I am not sure if there are any shop selling similar tarts but this is the place that I had my first beancurd tart. Me and my boyfriend spent quite some time to find this place as we are not so familiar with the place. It is an old shop so if you did not pay attention enough, you might just walk past and missed it. We reached there in the evening, and luckily we bought the last box of the beancurd tarts. The price is reasonable, 8 tarts in a box for 10 dollars. Just a gently reminder, do not store it for too long as the tart will turn soft and it wont taste that nice. Just eat it fresh

Le Cafe Confectionery & Pastry has a long winding history of over 50 years! For a food business lasting so long, you know they must be good! My favourite is their beancurd tart, that sells for $8 per box of 5. The crust is thick and firm, yet not overly hard. The one that really wins my heart is the beancurd filling that is not only soft and smooth, but seemed to melt in your mouth! Best served chilled, it is ainteresting twist from normal egg tarts.

This stall has a long history and definitely stood the test of time. I remembered that when I was schooling, we often ordered our refreshments of cakes and pastries from them as my school was nearby. I grew up eating their confectioneries and pastries. In the recent years, I got reacquainted with this store when a colleague bought the beancurd tarts for our tea break and it rekindled my interest in patronizing the stall. This came about way before the overhype beancurd pudding craze in singapore.

This came about way before the overhype beancurd pudding craze in singapore. Their beancurd tart is rather unique very similar to egg tarts but with a smooth and creamy texture for its filling. You can get a box with assorted flavors and they tends to snap out fast.

Personally I am not a fan of pineapple tarts but I heard their pineapple tarts are awesome too.

LE Cafe Confectionery & Pastry is known for their 'golf ball' pineapple tarts, bean curd tarts, cakes and wedding cakes. Look at the above picture! What a beautiful customised wedding cake!

Some of the items and their prices that are being sold in LE Cafe Confectionery & Pastry. I went to LE Cafe Confectionery & Pastry on a weekday afternoon at around 130pm. I wanted to buy the Beancurd Tart. However, it was already sold out when I got there. What is amazing is that the Beancurd Tarts are only available daily after 1230pm yet it got sold so quickly. I was told I can call in to reserve the next time.

I decided to purchase the Mixed Beancurd Tarts instead for $9.00.

Most of us would have tried Portuguese Egg Tart before. Beancurd Tart will be something new to most of us. The beancurd tarts will need to be kept in the fridge and are best served chilled. It has to be consumed within 2-3 days.

The crust of the beancurd tart is hard yet crispy, crunchy and sweet! The beancurd filling is soft, silky and with melt in your mouth sensation. Moreover, the beancurd taste is not overwhelming. Among the beancurd tarts, the Original Beancurd was the best! A nice change from Portuguese Egg tarts.

Oh yes, to further reinforce that this shop has a long history, my parents told me that their wedding cake (30 years ago) came from this shop! This is a interesting shop. The only downside is that it is not located near the MRT station. Anyone tried their wedding cakes before?

ps: best to call and reserve the Original Beancurd Tart

Tucked along the road side and opposite peace center lies one of the oldest bakeries. I have been going there ever since I was a kid to order birthday cakes or even slices of cake for tea. Now, of course lies a different interest - Pineapple tarts which they call Golfball pineapple tarts. You might wonder why golf ball till you see the size of those tarts!

These are the closed-up version where a very sweet-generous portion of pineapple jam is inside each soft, flaky pastry thats a size of a golf ball! Unlike most stalls, the pineapple jam does not stick to the roof of your mouth or make you drown yourself in liquids from being too sticky.

This is one of the best pineapple tarts around from all the bakery-hopping I do! They have 3 other outlets that are located in the same vicinity. This one appears to be most convenient though; seeing that its a 10 minute walk from Dhoby Ghaurt Mrt.

On top of that, you might get lucky and earn yourself a free cookie or beancurd tart that the friendly staff usually give out
Bean curd tarts are definitely a winner here too; being yummy yet guilt free!

Note: This bakery does not have pork or lard =)

$8.50 for a box of 10, and $16 for a box of 20! (trust me and go for the 20 pieces) Once you pop, you can't stop!

I had meant to buy their Coffee Cookies as I tried it several days ago. And it was so good. Crispy with caffine and nutty flavour. Addictive! But well, I bought the cookies in a rush and instead bought their Chocolate Cookies instead. =S

LE Cafe is famous for their Pineapple Tart aka "Golf Ball" Tart. Any guess why "Golf Ball"?

Well this is the reason! The pineapple tarts are so big, fat and round that they look like golf balls. I wonder how they managed to squeeze 10 such pineapple tarts into the bottle. The pineapple tarts are not cheap, each piece cost around 90 cents.

Don't play play, LE Cafe's Pineapple Tart are not only big, but also incredibly tasty. The crust was thin, soft, flaky with a buttery fragrance. I was quite shocked to see the amount of pineapple jam given. LE Cafe was so very generous with their jam. The homemade pineapple jam was rich, moist with intense sweetness of pineapple flavour. Extremely addictive. This is the type of pineapple jam required for a hallmark of good pineapple tart. Even the partner who is not a fan of pineapple tarts gave LE Cafe's golf balls a nod of approval as she went for another round. Irresistible!

After trying it, I can only say even at 90 cents each, this is quite value for money considering the quality and quantity of the pineapple jam and of course the pineapple tart as a whole. For a even more value for money option, one could purchase 20 pieces at $16. If you are keen to buy this for the Lunar (Chinese) New Year, you are advised to pre-book a few months ahead as these are always sold out during the festive period.

They are also famous for their Beancurd Tarts which I posted in my earlier posts.

Edited: Went over to buy some other cookies and this time I got to sample their freshly baked Pineapple Tart (golf ball). It blew me away. Hot out of the oven, so fragrant, so crispy. As I bite into the tart, the warm the pineapple jam added an extra dimension into the taste. Shiok!

Coupled with a hot green tea drink, the combination was perfect - the rock buns were rocky enough with a hard crust and a moon rock type exterior, yet moist enough not to be dry or flaky. The raisins, nuts and jelly bits provide sweet little tinge to spice up the buttery flavour. The cherries add that little nostalgic touch to a traditional pastry.

This pineapple tart ball is really big is size, which is almost like the size of a ping pong balls. The pastry is really compact and is filled with lots of fragrant from the butter used in baking it. Love those really juicy pineapple jams in it which are not too sweet and with abit of sourness in it. The price is reasonable since each piece of this big round balls can be equal to three to four pieces of a normal pineaplple tart.

This beancurd tart may has the same appearance like the usual egg tart. But the taste, I should say is much better than the normal egg tart. The beancurd filling is really smooth and silk, which you may feel like eating the beancurd during your first bite. The biscuit crust is also very fragrant and crunchy, and goes really well with the beancurd smooth filling. At less than a dollar fifty cents per piece, this is definitely a good buy for their quality food!
