Ma maison is a fusion between french and western cuisine. Even though it was a weekday night, the queue was still very long. We waited for more than 45 mins to be seated even though we started queueing at 630pm. So be sure to start queueing earlier if you dont want to queue. Main courses cost around 15-20 dollars each, and portions are very small here. In fact after dinner at ma maison, we had to proceed to the food court at bugis to continue eating. We tried several steak dishes, none of which were particularly impressive. Service was quite slow and the food took very long to be served, which, considering the long queue outside, should have been quicker.

Overall I found ma maison not value for money, though the long queue suggests otherwise

Reason being: There's always a long queue for this restaurant!
However for my belated birthday dinner, my friends decide to have our meal there.
Lucky on that day we went about 6pm plus, if we got there any later we would have to queue quite a while.
I really love the ambience, there's such a homely feeling!

I love the beef stroganoff that i had too, the sauce, beef cubes and mushrooms are well done.
Best of all is the egg that wrapped the rice.
To wrap everything up, we had two pies (one chocolate mousse pie and one white chocolate with strawberries pie).
Both was really nice too!

Ma Maison, which means my home in French, started out with an outlet at Bugis Junction and soon expanded to include one at The Central. Known for its take on Japanese Western food aka fusion food, Ma Maison packs in the crowds at meal times so don't be surprised if you have to wait for a seat if you arrive without a reservation.

Located just a few units down from Wakashachiya on the third floor, Ma Maison's interior is reminiscent of a quaint little European cottage with lots of wood, overhanging crockery and shelves of various liquids. The cozy cottage feel is further reinforced by replica ornaments of yesteryear placed along the wooden window sill. If you are lucky enough, you can get a window seat which overlooks Clarke Quay and the river, but there's probably only 5 such tables or so.

Doteni Hamburger - A signature dish of Ma Maison, the Doteni Hamburger was essentially a beef and pork patty covered with a fried egg, topped with beef tendons and draped with a demi glaze sauce that has been left to simmer for 28 days. And I liked it. The beef, though almost well done, was moist and juicy with a slightly uneven texture. The egg was perfectly done while the gelatinous beef tendon came across as a little chewy and not overly soft. Coupled with the robust sauce, it set the right note for our lunch.

Tonakatsu - After the horrendous tonkatsu experience at Wakashachiya just a couple of hours before, I was rather skeptical about the tonkatsu at Ma Maison. Those fears were put to rest as the pork cutlet turned out fine and surpassed expectations. Sure the meat wasn't kurobuta like Tampopo's, but it was still decently tender while retaining moisture and bite. There was no evident taste of oily residue either. The breaded batter could have been a wee bit thinner though, which would have made it crispier and less oily.

Beef Stroganoff with Omu Rice - My personal favourite. Who can resist tender beef slices served up in a thick savoury sauce coupled with smooth milky omelette enveloping fragrant and tasty buttery rice If I'm coming back to Ma Maison, its definitely going to be for this dish. I would prefer a little more butter to go into the rice though, which would make it heartier and of course more artery clogging.

Squid Ink Spaghetti - Honestly I didn't quite take to the spaghetti. It wasn't al dente and came across rather bland. Maybe thats the way Japanese spaghettis are supposed to taste like, unlike the richer and more robust renditions from the Italians. If you like light stuff then this dish would probably suit you but do note that squid ink leaves a dark stain on your teeth so remember to rinse!

hidden in a quite corner of bugis junction , this restaurant resembles an old cozy cottage . ive been here about 5 times now, some of the must orders are the scotch eggs, hamburger steaks , and escargots. the sauce is said to be stewed for 100 days or something , impressive! at the end of the meal you take a large key ( with the table number) and bring it to the cashier to pay your bill. pretty weird but cool at the same time

Another visit to ma maison with my family. We simply love the food there. the flavours just suit our tastebuds. I ordered their curry rice. it was so good. the curry gravy was not too spicy. It was very thick not diluted like other japanese restaurant. The meat was very tender and juicy. when you eat with the steamed rice, it is heavenly!

Dinner at Ma Maison! We ordered the spaghetti "MENTAIKO" with chili cod roe. It is quite interesting. Very unique taste. The seaweed blended in very well with the pasta, very appetizing. Bought the Clam Chowder soup. I thought that it was not thick enough, could be beter if it is a little thicker. There are tiny bits of clams in it too!

Ma Maison is now one of my favourite places due to great food & good prices, great service from japanese waitresses and great ambience.

It is very enjoyable restaurant. I like the comfortable setting a lot, feels like we're in an old European restaurant. Very cozy and the dim lighting coupled with wooden furniture & old fashioned upholstery. Perfect for dates at homely atmosphere.

I'll definitely go back to take advantage of the 10% discount for CIMB credit cards holders and had dinner at Ma Maison for trying the other stuff in the menu.

Ma maison is a Japanese western style restaurant. It has a very nice ambient with a very cozy feel of interior design. The serving is quite small and is a little bit pricey. The escargot that i tried is nice. The cheese burger that i ordered tastes delicious! i like the combination. The sauce is just nice, not so salty and the meat is very tender and juicy. This restaurant is suitable to hang out with friends after work to catch up.

This round, my best friend and i ordered the Paella, which was a spanish seafood fried rice that came with 2 prawns, 2 scallops, 3 mussels and a couple of cockles. The whole dish was pretty large, and just nice for two girls.

The shell items were unfortunately not very fresh, especially the cockles which tasted quite fishy. The scallops and the prawns were ok, although the prawns were overcooked. Don't really like mussels so i shall not comment on that.

The fried rice is chocked full of seafood, from squid to little shrimps etc. I found the fried rice to be a little too bland, but after adding some salt (their salt is really salty, so add sparingly) it tasted really awesome!

Overall it was ok, although they could have used a little more seasoning and fresher seafood.

Then we had a very very long wait for the food to arrive too. My sis and I were starving because we didn’t took our breakfast.

Finally the food came:

Mum had the Unagi Don @ $19.80 which was nice! You know when you buy the lunch box from Tori Q you just can’t get enough of the sauce for your rice but the Unagi Don rice was generously filled with the teriyaki sauce. Yummy!

I had the Ma Maison Spaghetti @ $15.20. When it arrived my sis commented: “Very normal only, like fried hokkien mee.” Look is deceiving! At least for me it was not that bad. I had only 1 complain, the portion of the ingredients not that right – all I chewed mainly was spaghetti and only a few pieces of meat.

After when I finished the meal I saw their tagline “Beautiful taste, wonderful people.”

What I like at Ma Maison is that they have this personal touch in every small details. They used table cloth for all the tables which hardly most restaurant does it nowadays to cut cost. Then you could see their restaurant is very well decorated with bits and pieces everywhere. There’s this good background music they played. The plus point is that if you bring your kids along they have a basket filled with freebies for them to choose. How nice is that?

When we were about to finish the meal, my mum then asked: “where’s your ice tea?”

The fact that the staff previously apologized made everything at ease, at least we could be more understanding and still happily enjoy our meal instead of feeling piss off.

The Uniqueness:
