This time, I ordered their special $9.90 lunch set which comes with a bowl of Beef Pho and a plate of Spring Rolls. I felt that the spring rolls were a little tough and dried out. Looking over the counter, I see them making the spring rolls in batches so they probably leave it out for quite a while before serving it, which causes the rice paper to dry out.

We also decided to try out their desserts this time round and ordered a Vanilla Pudding with Palm Sugar Caramel ($3.90). Surprisingly, the palm sugar caramel was more on the sour side and paired up quite strangely with the sweet pudding. Definitely not your usual pudding with caramel, but quite refreshing.

My observation was the waitering staff are much more busier than the kitchen ones. The kitchen staff were busy preparing ingredients like wrapping the spring rolls and not really focused on dishing out new items. This i thought is not a good use of the staff time allocation. The system is not flowing well also with the servers always returning for more spring rolls order or returning with extra spring rolls served. I could see the spring rolls consisted of a plastic looking rice sheet, wrapped with one prawn and spring onions. It is served as a plate of 2, with a special sauce which taste like sesame paste mixed with something else, and fragrance enhanced with green onion in sesame oil and also grounded peanuts, quite a unique taste actually.

The pho beef noodle i had came with glass noodle combination and thin slices of beef, it came served reddish but is easily cooked to desired state with the hot broth. There is also a slice of lemon provided which adds to the soup base taste. The red cut chilli which came along fortunately did not make the soup too spicy which i was surprised and glad at the same time. Though it taste nothing like the pho bo i had in Hanoi, i will still give this bowl of noodles the thumbs up with the soup taste unique and not like typical Chinese fare soup style. It comes along as a little sour but the ingredients pleasantly combined well and level up the soup appeal.

Only one thing to gripe is the coffee which is a little bland for my liking, i had expected much from Vietnamese coffee. Once nice touch they had was the Vietnamese condiments, i like the chilli sauce to go with my noodles, tasting a lot like sin sin garlic chilli. I also added the hoi shin sauce to my soup.

We went to Nam Nam for the first time together! Ordered the mixed beef combo pho! Serving size was generous!!! Value for money!!! The lotus tea was bland and you have to add in sugar syrup. The rice roll wrap with shrimp was the most non-appetizing dish. Too hard to be chewed. Service was prompt and friendly staff.

At a decent price of $9.90, this lunch promotion consists of a bowl of either pho chicken or pho beef steak slices noodles, fresh southern rolls with sweet shrimps, egg, and fresh herbs and lastly either a choice of the classic iced coffee with condensed milk or iced lotus tea. Best of all is that the food are prepared without any MSG. Healthy food choice and would definitely appeal to the healthy conscious individual. Also there were no service charges.

I ordered the pho beef steak slices noodles and here's the photo:

Surprisingly, the soup broth was clear but tasty. The beef slices were smooth and tender and were simply yummy. However I found that the beef slices were slightly too thin and it will be good if the thickness of the beef slices can be increased or improved.

The pho (Kway Teow) was served with the piping hot soup broth and I felt the Pho was cooked just nice to my liking, neither too soft nor too hard. The translucent looking and springy pho went well with the rich soup broth. If you noticed, this bowl of noodle had too much spring onion. I think it doesn't make any difference to the noodle to have so much spring onion and it will be good if the chef can reduce the quantity of spring onion used. Also, a unique factor of this dish is that you can squeeze the small slice of lemon into your noodle to enhance the taste of it.

Next dish is the fresh southern rolls with sweet shrimps, egg, and fresh herbs:

The fresh and sweet shrimps was wrapped with a thin layer of Vietnamese rice paper together with the egg and fresh herbs. I think the accompanying sauce contains a mixture of peanut, chili, garlic and some other ingredients that I was unable to discern but overall, when you dip the southern rolls into the sauce, it tasted fantastic.

Classic iced coffee with condensed milk:

To top it off, this lunch promotion comes with a cup of classic iced coffee with condensed milk. It tasted nice and if you are observant, you would have noticed that the cup comes with the traditional word that people used during weddings, the word "Xi".

Overall, I think the noodle portion was just alright but the shrimps roll portion was small as there were only 2 rolls given. Also the coffee portion was little too. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 as mediocre and 10 as very yummy, I would give the overall dining experience as a rating of 6. The meal tasted average and the only novelty would be to try out how the Vietnamese food tasted like.

Went NamNam Noodle Bar to try out their food on the first day of their opening at Wheelock. You'll love this if you're health-conscious. Surprisingly flavourful for a clear broth, beef slices were tender and smooth - it literally melts in your mouth. The pho was translucent and springy, the way I like my pho to be eaten.

Cost: less than $10 for the set lunch.

Be prepared to wait in the queue because it's relatively a small venue especially during the lunch peak hours.

I ordered the Beef Combination which came with beef slices, beef balls and beef tendons (or I think they were some kind of beef insides anyway). I'm not really a fan of eating the insides of animals, so I only had the beef slices and beef balls which were quite tough in texture. The soup was quite tasty but I think the portion was too small (even for a light eater like myself). The more authentic Vietnamese restaurants (like the one in Melbourne) would usually serve their noodles with a plate of mint leaves at the side which you can add in to your liking. Here, the mint leaves were already in the soup and was rather soggy already when it came.

Overall, I felt that the food here was just average and I don't think it will be worth a second visit.

I like the soup . It is very fragrant because they added alot if spices in it . The beef is quite tender and the Pho ( kway teow ) is cooked to almost perfection, not too soft nor too hard.

The latest addition to the list of eating establishments at Wheelock Place, NamNam Noodle Bar brings a whole new dining experience to the mix. I ordered the Saigon Street Favourite Value Lunch Set, which was total value for money at $9.90 with a main order of a Pho Beef Steak Slices + fresh southern rolls + 1 classic iced coffee with condensed milk. Did I mentioned that the price already included GST and that no service charge applies?

My side dish of southern rolls was served first. The star of the dish was the fresh, succulent prawn, wrapped in Vietnamese rice paper together with sliced egg and fresh herbs. While I couldn't really discern the composition of the sauce the rolls were served with, the sweet, savoury mix really added to the flavour profile, complementing the roll perfectly.

The pho was served piping hot and was an absolute comfort within the air-conditioned confines of Wheelock during the rain. Albeit slightly tough, the beef steak slices went great with the rich broth and rice noodles. My only complaint would just be the excessive use of spring onions with the dish.

We finished the meal with traditional Vietnamese coffee, finely ground dark roast, mixed with sweetened condense milk.

Verdict: A quirky dining option where I am looking forward to trying my first 'Vietnamese Subway' on my next visit.
