Came here for dinner after work. We ordered 1 pasta and soup to share as we also wanted to try their cupcakes. To our pleasure surprise, the waiter offered to split the portion for us. 1) Field Mushroom Soup with Truffled croutons - $10

This soup will most likely appeal to people who like truffle, coz it was pretty obvious.

2)Seared Scallop Linguini with Tiger Prawn bisque - $24

The pasta was served in a soupy style, just like our Chinese prawn soup noodle. In fact, the soup tasted like one too. Probably not your choice if you prefer thicker sauce base for your pasta.

Came here for brunch the other day after shopping at ion with my friends. Previously I was here too and I ordered beef burger as my main. Decided to order something else since that dish was quite average. In the end i had carbonara. It comes with a poached egg and flat parsley. The pasta is good. The sauce is very creamy. Nothing bad about the dish. However, this cost 24++ which I find it quite pricey.

I have never eaten at Marmalade Pantry before, but I had heard good things about their desserts. However, when my colleagues suggested that we go there for lunch, I was a little skeptical- I believe that good dessert places probably don't do good mains. Anyway! Don't get me wrong, the prices weren't sky high, but I felt that $24 for pasta (which was what I paid) was a little much for a cafe setting? In any case, I settled for the scallop pasta in prawn bisque because a) it was cheaper than the other options, and b) it sounded not bad.

When it came, I felt mildly comforted, mostly because it looked not bad and smelt really good. There was a strong prawn-y aroma which told me the bisque/broth was flavourful and likely to be very yummy. After my colleagues' food came, we dug in.

I'm not sure if its evident from the picture, but the linguine was very good- al dente texture that wasn't soggy despite the abundant broth and also not undercooked. There was also plenty of hebi (small prawns) buried in the pasta. I realised that that was what gave it such a strong aroma, and while it was slightly unerving to eat at first- I don't like fusion foods- I got used to it and it was actually a very comforting flavour that reminded me of homecooked food. I soon found myself scooping up every bit of broth and wishing there was more heh.

The meal was really yummy, and I was very happy with my pasta. However, the thought of $24 for noodles with hebi and 2 pieces of big prawn and scallops each didn't feel very satisfying. I guess this would be one of those places to go once in a while. If you want somewhere for a date or a nice place to talk with friends and feel slightly more high-class though, I thoroughly recommend Marmalade Pantry!

(I didn't get to try their desserts, but the table beside us were eating and it looked really good!)

Being the coffee-addict that I am, I just had to order the Affogato ($9) at Marmalade Pantry. The beverage consists of a good shot of espresso coffee and vanilla ice cream on the side. This Pan-Roasted Red Snapper ($28) is made with a parsley herb crust and sits on top a bed of homemade ratatouille. I thought the fish was cooked really well, not at all overdone and the meat was very fresh too. Paired with the heart ratatouille, the red snapper makes for a very satisfying main dish! =D

This is my first time patronising Marmalade Pantry after hearing much reviews about their food and was quite looking forward to it.

Was given 2 menus, one for main course and one for drinks and desserts. After going through, I settled for Seared Scallop Linguini ($24) and Mango Lassi (Smoothies - $9).

When it was first presented to me, kind of turn off because maybe the sauce colour. There are scallops and prawns which both are nice and fresh. They used tiger prawns. The pasta was al dente, firm but not hard. That is commendable. But I kind of dislike the sauce that is used for cooking. Apart from garlic, I see that they used tiny dry shrimps which really amazed me. It actually makes the taste a little weird. I conclude that I don't like anything that is bisque. But I manage to finish them all so as not to waste.

For the Mango Lassi, I think the yoghurt has overwhelmed the mango taste. The taste is sour. There is no sweetness coming from the mango. Or probably problem lies with the mango itself, the ripeness.

The service is something that I like. Food was served not long after ordering. And the server actually asked if I want to take away my unfinished drink. Yes I love that because minimising food waste. Will come back again for others in near future.

I've been here a couple of times and during this lunchtime visit I ordered one of the most expensive (if not the most expensive) items on the menu - the Steak & Eggs. At $38, this meaty dish smells so good because of the truffle oil in the pan. It's stated that the mashed peas (the green stuff) are cooked in truffle oil but, it seems like the earthy aroma sticks on everything, especially the meat. I had it medium rare and even though it's not the best I've ever had, it's pretty okay for a $38 st

However, I think that this dish was quite pricey as it costed about $24 excluding service charge and GST.

But it was really worth the wait. The pasta had a generous serving of sauce and crabmeat. I really enjoyed it. There were also pine nuts and these added this goood crunch to the overall dish.

We arrived at 12.15 and thankfully, it wasn't full yet (actually, there was barely a queue!). From now til the end of June/July(?) There is a 1 for 1 for all main courses from Mon to Fri upon presenting your NTUC Card! How fantastic is that? Marmalade Pantry is unique such that the concept is similar to Ambush @ Plaza Singapura. The seating area is right smack in the middle of the mall, with the kitchen tucked away at the side.

I had the Crabmeat Linguini at $24. It was served in a tomato sauce that had chunky fresh tomatoes in it with shredded crabmeat. Topped off with cheese, the dish is as creamy as it is indulgent. Tossing the pasta, the aroma of fresh crab wafts to my nose (and the adjacent tables too, I'm pretty sure!). Mmm, delicious. The pasta sauce is creamy because of the crab, even though it packs a slightly sour flavour from the fresh tomatoes. The tanginess provides a welcome contrast to the rich crab. The portion however, is huge, and even though I was hungry - I couldn't finish it. The crab taste also gets cloying after awhile. Other than that, it was good!

My colleague had Steak & Eggs ($380, which consisted of steak cooked in truffle oil (medium rare for her!), complemented by two sunny side ups and a pea mash. If you're a fan of truffle, you'll want to try the steak & eggs here -it's really one of the more popular dishes. The steak isn't super 'fantabulous' (her words!), but it's worth a try. The tender beef with the aroma of truffle is sheer indulgence. I thought to myself, for $38, I'd bet it would be.

The strawberry & cream cupcake ($4.50) is a buttershortbread cupcake topped with strawberry cream and half a fresh strawberry. The texture of the cupcake was slightly dense and dry, though, which was disappointing as it would have been perfect if it were light and airy! The strawberry cream wasn't too sweet, and I liked the icing sugar that was dusted on top of the cupcake -gave it a really pretty finish.

The William ($4.50), however, is my TOP PICK for Marmalade Pantry, and perhaps my TOP PICK FOR CUPCAKES in Singapore. I really don't like cupcakes -the sickly sweet icing, the artificial coloring and the overly buttery cake that doesn't do justice to a REAL cupcake. This cupcake, ladies & gentleman, trumps them all. The top icing is a welcoming sort of sweet, it has the grainy texture when you bite into it -super sugary. Somehow, it was balanced by the subtle vanilla flavour. The icing wasn't too oily as well, and it complemented the, get this: perfectly, airy, chococolatey and rich cupcake base. The cupcake also had slices of william pear in it. The pear provides a fruity contrast to the chocolate and vanilla, and it was just perfect in ways unimaginable til you take a bite of it. The icing to cake ratio was just nice -and for the size and quality of it, I'll pay more than just $4.50.

Top marks go to the sweets here, especially the William cupcake (do yourself a favour and try it. NOW!). The food is secondary -I wouldn't exactly be running back to this place for their mains. Other than the delicious selection of cupcakes, I also suggest the Crabmeat Linguini, and for beef+truffle lovers, go for Steak & Eggs. If you're a risotto fan that loves risotto creamy and full on flavour, their mushroom risotto is also worth a try as it has some truffle oil in it too.

My only gripe would be the service however, they took ages to get back to us and hardly wore a smile. Such negativity! But no matter, we still enjoyed ourselves with good food, a decent ambience and fantastic desserts.

The latter was an innovating fusion of Japanese and Western with a slab of good ol grilled salmon and cucumber-paired soba noodles. For non-soba eaters like myself (partially because of the heavy wheat taste), fret not, for the "wheaty" flavour was toned down heavily in this smooth and crunchy delight.

One year has passed since my previous birthday, and lo and behold, I am back once again at Marmalade and had ordered the same dish - coincidentally. Seemingly fated to Seared Scallop Linguini (S$24), this tantalising signature was my first choice for the two occasions. The pasta was cooked slightly less than al dente this time round, but the succulent seafood and robust flavour of the dried shrimps were definitely a thumbs-up.

Pork and Fennel Seed Sausage Lasagna (S$24) was another favourite of myself (and "Dad-in-law" who literally wolfed it down in minutes), with all the parmesan goodness which is complemented by a good load of minced pork and mushroom slices. It comes complete with refreshing garden salad.

Out of the four, Classic Snapper Pie ($26.00) did not hit the mark. Hidden beneath the crispy crust was quite a miserable amount of snapper, piled together with fennel and mash. The snapper flesh was too dry and flaky for my liking, which gave me another reason not to order this in the future.

All in all, Marmalade Pantry is an ideal place to have a weekend brunch/dinner, or perhaps a relaxing afternoon high tea after a day of strolling in the world-class shopping district.

*Marmalade Pantry is having a 1 to 1 promotion for all mains (Mon-Fri, up to 2 mains) for all NTUC cardholders till 30 June 2013*
^^Oh well. Another reason to visit.

good, better-than-average bistro food at this branch of the yummy-mummy chain in the ion shopping mall. this is a long post, because I came here twice in barely a week – and I’ll tell you why: the food is pretty decent, the prices competitive for the area, and there aren’t much better options around for a place to sit down and have some cake and tea.

the food may not be spectacularly surprising, but it is reliable and very enjoyable. the menu runs the gamut of european-fusion-ish bistro dishes: easy brunch food, salads and sandwiches, proper entrées and pud. I tend to come here for brunch or tea, and so the menu does me well – don’t come expecting a formal dinner service here, it ain’t that sort place.

truth be told though, my constant visits are for their sweets. they have the same sort of style as the p.s. cafe chain (and both do a mean sticky date pudding). I got to try something new this time: their caramelized pear and salted caramel bread pudding. doesn’t that sound fantastic! and it really was intriguing – two rectangular slabs of bread pudding wrapped with filo, baked to a pale golden, and topped with a scoop of delicious vanilla ice cream. the filo was a little floury – I think it could have been baked a little longer, or brushed with an egg wash – but I’m quibbling: that bare drizzle of salted caramel on the plate was just the right accent to the pud – it was a great way to finish the meal.
