Its been more than one and half years since I last visited The Old Malaya Café at Tampines Mall.

We wanted to lunch at the nearby restaurant but it was packed and my family didn't want to queue, we decided to visit The Old Malaya Café for something light.

I ordered the Popiah Roll at $2.80 each.

There were a good choice of ingredients in the popiah filling include grounded peanuts which makes the overall popiah fragrant. Though I prefer my popiah with egg skin, this plain popiah skin is also soft textured.

Will go back for more dishes from the Café in due course.

If you dining in at peak hour at tampines mall where food court and restaurant are almost fully packed you can go down at B1 The old Malaya Cafe to dine in at their economic food. We ordered a Pontian Wanton Noodle which has a QQ texture and served in dark black sauce and chilli sauc It comes with both fried and boiled wanton where both taste delicious and Penang Assam Laksa taste is quite good and a bit sour with thick bee hoon and mint and Prawn Paste.

Try to avoid their drinks as it may be overpriced, replace their drinks with chendol instead. Avoid peak hours as mostly residents and office workers will flock to this cafe during lunch period. Their popiah and penang laksa is a must to try. Great furninishing bringing back the nostalgic feelings from the past. Do check out my blog for more reviews : manmademenu.blogspot.com

I met up with my ex-colleague for dinner after work on one of the weekdays. She recommended this place as the café serves local delightful cuisine. The café provides varieties of Malaya nostalgia foods. The café was furnished with the nostalgia classic retro feeling and made the place has the olden days ambience.Although it is a café, we have to queue up at the counter to place our order and make payment on the stop. It’s a self-service café basically. So, I ordered Pontian Wanton Mee (S) @ S$7.

Although it is a café, we have to queue up at the counter to place our order and make payment on the stop. It’s a self-service café basically. So, I ordered Pontian Wanton Mee (S) @ S$7.00. I personally find that the price is expensive for a bowl of noodle. The noodles texture is QQ where there is bouncy and tender taste. As for the deep fried wantons, it looks flat and no much filling. I can barely fill of having wanton instead of just eating the wanton skin only. Char siew tasted a bit bland too.

Truckers’ Chendol @S$2.50 is my choice of drink. It is served in a glass and filled with lots of gula Melaka, read beans, coconut milk and shaved ice. It is sweet and suitable for those who love sweet stuffs. I enjoyed the chendol with the generous ingredients filling up the glass at the price paid.

All price does not include 7% GST. The serving time was fast too. If you are craving for local delightful foods, you might want to consider this café. The price is slightly expensive compared to other local stalls but then you are having your foods in an air-conditioned furnished place. That does explain the differences.

This stall sells many of our local food favourites and it is usually very crowded. It can be quite difficult to get seats during peak period. The iced lemon tea was refreshing, not too sweet or bitter. My bowl of prawn noodles was tasty and they served a reasonable amount of ingredients. The prawns were juicy! However, I would have enjoyed it more if it was less oily. I felt like oil was covering my whole lips after the meal though. I tried a bit of the Ipoh Hor Fun and the sauce is thick and o

I tried a bit of the Ipoh Hor Fun and the sauce is thick and overall yummy! I would like to try their famous chicken rice balls next time!

Wanna go on budget for dinner. Besides going to the foodcourt, we had dinner at the Old Malaya Cafe. It operates on self-service basis which has quite a similar concept to Toast Box.Coffee The number tagging they gave us was cute... Ordered hor fan and prawn noodles. Yums, nice! Chendol for our dessert. Cooling and refreshing after our hearty meals. We thought chendol was served to us as a bowl but they gave us in a glass cup. Cool!

This cafe is decorated with old toys and a "Kampong" Look. It serves a range of Malaysian food representing different part of East and West Malaysia. Like JB Noodle, Melaka Chicken Ball Rice , Ipoh Hor Fun and Kuching's Triple colour tea or Coffee. Chicken Ball Rice
This is Malacca style chicken rice where the rice is served in little golf ball accompanied with boiled white chicken. I found the rice sticky and soft and cannot taste each fluffy grain of rice. This was not to my liking, as I like to be able to taste each grain of rice. I have not tasted the original Chicken Ball Rice in Malacca so do not know if the rice ball texture is supposed to be sticky. The boiled chicken is served in a separate plate with a layer of beansprouts. The chicken was not tender and moist.

Pontian Wanton Noodle
This is the popular Pontien Wanton Noodle which has a "QQ" texture and served in dark black sauce unlike our local version which is chilli sauce or tomato sauce. It comes with both fried and boiled wanton.

Assam Laksa
Taste is quite good with the right type of thick bee hoon and mint, accompanied with watered down Prawn Paste.

Popiah & Pie Tie
The filling of both Popiah and Kuah Pie Tie is the same shredded yam beans excepts the former is in a wrap and the later is is in a cup. I like both of this snacks as the filling is cooked just right and is has the right amount of sweet sauce and the right hot chilli sauce for the little bite size cup.

Triple Delight Kopi/ Tea

If you like the Triple Delight Kopi / Teh found in Sarawak, you can find it here. It is a layer of liquid Gula Melaka (Brown Sugar) , Kopi/Tea and Evaporated Milk. Not the best as the original town but it is ok. It cost $3 a glass.

Overall the food has some good and bad ones but if you really missed Malaysian Food, this place is to go for its reasonable prices as most item is around $5 or below. So it is a cheap fixed to anyone who craved for Malaysian food. So far it is the only chain cafe in Singapore where I can find the Triple Delight Coffee or Tea.
