Porridge is usually to be taken for breakfast or supper as its taste tends to be more subtle, and yet, wholesome. But not to this Cantonese-style congee which has become more flavorsome with pleasant briny taste by adding other ingredients in it, for instances, red meat, fish slices, seafood (bite-sized), and/ or eggs, to your preference, that can now be eaten anytime of the day!

This porridge stall opens daily from 8am to 4am! So you can eat this, breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper!

I think that their prices are fair and reasonably priced. At this coffee shop which can get really crowded at night, it can also get quite stuffy. Hence I decided to drop by in the morning around 10am. I found an empty table and made

The aroma of the frog was very sweet and fragrant. For $8, you get a whole frog and it's a decent portin of meat for 1 person. The frog meat itself was tender and well mariated with the ginger sauce. The sauce from the claypot also doubles up as a seasoning for your porridge if you prefer a more seasoned porridge. Drizzling the claypot sauce over the porridge gave it a sharp and refreshing aroma. To eat this, you’d have to combine each mouthful of frog with a bit of porridge so the different flavours and textures would all explode in your mouth.

This is probably the first porridge I've eaten with so many ingredients all in one mix. There was pork, kidney, intestines (both fried and poached), cuttlefish and century egg. Every spoonful of porrdige had some of these ingredients. I think their proportion of rice to ingredients had to be 50/50! The porridge was very tasty and I didn't feel thirsty after the meal, so maybe they were gentle on the MSG or the porridge was naturally seasoned from the variety of flavourful ingredients. For $5, I think this is worth and recommendable bowl or porridge not to be dealt lightly!!

Not sure why, but Cantonese porridge often pairs with fried fritters (fried dough sticks – 油条) that savours marvelous experience of having a porridge meal. But here at Tiong Shian they don't just offer fried fritters but also fried pig intestines!

These pig intestines were fried till they were super crispy like potato chips. I couldn't even tell that they were pig intestines. The make a good crunchy substitute for your porridge.

4. Minced Pork Porridge $4

Tiong Shian does their proddige with the right consistency of being fairly smooth, light gluey with enough moisture. The temperature at which the porridge is served is also perfect to be eaten despite our hot and humid weather.

They were very generous with the minced pork ingredients. The porridge itself was very tasty but if you wanted more oomph! Go for the mixed ingredients porridge!

For 3 pax, we ordered 3 bowls of porridge, 2 frog claypot and a side of pig intestines for breakfast. I don't normally choose to eat porridge and this is probably the only time in the whole year I'll eat porridge but the porridge actually tasted good enough for me to want to come back again!

Verdict : 1) Prices were reasonable 2) Their porridges were not heavily seasoned so you could just adjust the taste with additional pepper or light soy sauce to your preferences. 3) Convenient location next to China town mrt 4) no waiting time 5) Simple pleasure for a reasonable price

The dried chilli frog meat was a huge disappointment. I'm really sensitive to spicy food and yet, this pot of dried chilli frog meat was Not Spicy At All. It tasted exactly like the other pot of ginger spring onion frog meat, and I actually had the courage to bite into one of the dried chilli. And yes, you guessed it, it wasn't spicy at all. I've no idea what kind of dried chilli they used.

This just tasted like what it's supposed to be - fried pig's intestine. It was really crispy and those who like to eat pig's intestine can give this a try.

Porridge was ok, nothing to shout about.

Even though I was disappointed with the frog meat, I may still come back to try their other types of porridge and claypot beehoon. They seem to have a constant crowd here so maybe their other dishes is good.

This Porridge Centre during night hours also sell barbeque chicken wings. Less than $8, I can get to enjoy a generous plate of chicken wings that are really filling and delicious. Chicken meat is very soft and juicy, and really enjoy the barbequed till really fragrant and not too oily chicken skins. Dip into the simple garlic chilli sauce really is very suitable and more appetizing. Stall owner is friendly and the dining environment is quite warm but spacious.

All of us just followed the crowd and walked in. After waiting for 15 minutes, the frog leg porridge arrived.

It was nice because it wasn't that spicy and plain porridge was so good & nice if you mixed with the sauce from the dried chili frog in claypot (宮保田鸡). Yummy! Therefore, I'll guarantee try again with it's Frog with Ginger Onion during my next visit due to lots of good food here.

Recommendation: Please come with the one you love so that the porridge will taste nicer at this best porridge stall in Singapore. However, 田鸡粥 is a bit too expensive and small portion.

Tiong Shian at China Town is popular for its wide range of delicious porridge items that comes with fish slices. The porridge served here is very smooth and perfect as it is not too watery as well. Lots of minced pork meat, century egg that are tender and juicy are added to it. The afternoon times are really hot here and there is facility to get the food delivered at your home. If you do not want to spend your time waiting for the food in the restaurant, you can go for home delivery option.

Tiong Shian Porridge's Raw Fish (small) $3.90 which ordered by almost everyone who patronise this coffee shop. The Raw Fish was served with slices of raw fish, ginger, chilli, shallot, spring onion, lettuce and a lime. The sauce underneath seems to contained sesame oil. The fish was fresh with no fishy taste. Soft and smooth with a hint of sweetness. A must order dish. How I wish I could order this fish and add it into my Chinese New Year Yu Sheng!

The Braised Beancurd (Lou Beancurd) $2.60 was soft, smooth and silky. The sauce and the chilli provided complement the beancurd perfectly. This is the only beancurd dish that I know is served with chilli! Shiok! Another dish worth ordering. Simple yet delicious.

A bowl of plain porridge $0.60 for me to savour by adding the sauce from the Dried Chilli Frog Leg.

If you are wondering where to get a good bowl of porridge with Dried Chilli Frog Leg or what to eat in Chinatown, Tiong Shian Porridge is unlikely to disappoint. To me the food here is irresistible!

It been a few years back since I tried so decided to step in again...

Was with my few friends for dinner, we waited around half an hour for our food to arrive...The good thing is that the food always arrive all together at the same time!!

Must order, Claypot Dried Chilli Frog Leg!! It was well executed!! The frog meat was well marinated and well coated with immense flavors of spiciness and sweetness...So delectable...The reason for ordering this is to add the sauce from
Claypot Dried Chilli Frog Leg and the frog leg into this!! It will transform into the best plain porridge ever...

To tag along the porridge, ordered the raw salmon & Claypot Liver...

Raw Salmon kinda of downgrading...In the earlier years, the freshness n appetizing touch on this dish is undeniable! Thinly sliced raw fish coupled with fried onions n sliced chilli n ginger with a drizzle of sesame n soy but sadly now is not as freshness even there's bones in it...careful when you have it...

Claypot Liver was delicious...It was tender and fragrant having absorbed the sauce...Adding the sauce to the Plain Porridge made it even more aromatic!!!

Shiokolicious!!!

This food centre surely has many popular local foods here. However I should say Tiong Shian Porridge stall has one of the longest waiting queues during meals' hour. First time buying their porridge and it took me around fifteen minutes before my turn is up. First mouthful of it really surprise me. The porridge texture is very smooth and not too watery. Lots of sliced pork meat are added in it which are tender and juicy. The fried spring onions also added that extra fragrant to it too.

The square braised toufu thoug looks tempting in presentation but lacks punch is the taste department, unable to distinguish it from any equivalent which i can buy at maybe just 3/4 of the price. The only part of this porridge i still like is the fried intestine that was added. This visit only makes me miss the redhill porridge even more

Went there on two different occasions. During the first occasion, we arrived during dinner time and this place was filled to the brim! We ordered and waited for close to half an hour before the food arrived.

The Plain Porridge is so cheap! Just $0.60 for such a big bowl of porridge! Cheap and good!

I had already mixed up the Raw Fish with the sauce, hence this unsightly picture. This picture does not do this dish any justice. Looks quite appetising right? Well....it was awesome! The fish was very fresh with no fishy smell. Saw that most tables ordered this item too. For $3.70 this dish is very certainty worth it. A must try dish!

I have never tried claypot Dried Chilli Fish Head before. I was quite surprised that the chilli fish head was so delicious. Well, maybe part of the reason was because I quite like fish head (to me anything with bones, tend to be nicer; more tender) . Moreover, the sauce was so aromatic, similar to the sauce from the Dried Chilli Frog Leg.

On the second occasion, I also patronised the place for dinner. This time I went slightly earlier at 6pm. The place was similar packed! Hence, yet again, we waited half an hour.

Any guess what this is?

Well, it is not plain porridge.

It is Century Egg Porridge! There seems to be a lack of flavour in the porridge. Porridge is quite smooth. Moreover, the century egg was of good quality.

Mix the sauce from the Frog with Ginger Onion with the plain porridge. And throw in some of the frog legs will make this plain porridge so delicious that you wonder why it cost 60 cents.

Overall, Tiong Shian Porridge is certainty a place to come for its porridge, claypot frog leg and raw fish! If the place is packed, there are seats upstairs. Not a bad place except that it can get really warm. Be prepared to sweat it out. But for the food, it is well worth it! Can't really compare to the one at Geyland Lorong 9 as I have forgotten the taste (the last time I was there was 8 years ago). Many gems in Chinatown to explore. Lots of good food nearby. I will certainly be back if I have the time.

We really enjoyed having the porridge here as it just smell nice and fast to get our food. We have tried the fish porridge, pork porridge but what I like most was the clay pot frog with add on of plain porridge costing 60cent more that the cook together clay pot frog porridge and the raw fish that the store was famous for and well, it really taste nice as the meat was soft and tender compared to other clay pot or home cook frog porridge. I would say it all mixed well with the sauce, ingredient and just nice to taste the sauce on it own and together stir in the plain porridge. Well, I wish there's we're more frog leg inside as I craving for it even fill the last drip and the western friend was also asking n when we would be coming to eat again and not miss him out as he enjoyed the porridge that much. The service is also quite nice as the stall personnel saw that there are a few people eating on our table that we only ordered the clay pot frog and 1 plain porridge at first, that they actually give us the exact number of small bowl according to E number if people on the table. This could be the reason that they think we can share and try the porridge and the clay pot frog and the raw fish together and won't drop on the table. After trying, we ordered more porridge and it quite fast to get it again. The raw fish was fresh and tasty as it was smooth and soft with no fishy taste like others and taste sour which mixed well with the lime. Nice to taste it raw individually and as we'll as with the porridge and the clay pot frog. The price for all this is also affordable and worth especially when you crave for something nice and fulling at night .overall, the place is clean in the coffee shop environment although there always people selling packet of tissue to customer who are eating their meal.
