A classic done well, the sandwich was toasted perfectly with tender pork shreds tossed in BBQ sauce. We'd enjoyed the savouriness of the dish, and this was simple, comfort food.

Wow-ed by its presentation as we weren't quite expecting a half-sized lobster with shell, the crustacean came fresh, topped with mentaiko sauce. What could be improved would be the linguine though, as it was pretty bland and dry.

I'm usually skeptical about steaks, especially when this paled in comparison when the Boston Lobster was first served. Slicing it up changed my impression though, with medium done-ness despite it being pretty thin. What managed to impress was the accompanying Shiraz reduction, that came with a slight tang and right salinity to complement the steak perfectly.

A tad too thick, this seemed more like the home-made luncheon meat cut into strips then pan-fried instead of the thinly sliced fries we were expecting. And certainly overpriced for such a dish!

I'm a fan of mentaiko and this could do with a more generous serving of that. It had too much of a 'fishy' taste to it, putting us off at the first mouthful.

With such a small plate it was placed in, torching it meant warming the entire dish and I wasn't exactly a fan of warm creme brûlées. Durian taste in it was just nice though, not too overwhelming for a dessert, though its portion didn't quite justify for its price.
Word of caution, don't try their milkshakes as it's absolutely sugar-loaded and the strawberry milkshake simply reminded us of meiji strawberry.
Hits and misses, it's quite a good spot for some casual chat over dinner and convenient enough to hop off somewhere else for drinks.

Tucked away in a quaint shophouse along CBD area, Vanilla Bar & Cafe caught my attention because of its beautiful interior decor and famous Vanilla Dirt Cake.

As the name goes, the shop is furnished in a pretty, uncluttered style full of whiteness and resplendent of Zen-style serenity. The most distinctive point was the sweet vanilla scent that fills the cafe the moment one steps in - this scent immediately brings to mind delicious thoughts and the jazz music transforms one into another time. Catering to professionals as well as cafe hoppers, Vanilla Bar & Cafe serves as a spot for brunch and coffee in the daytime, and a dinner + drinks respite in the evenings.
The Beau and I ordered an assortment of items from the usual menu and the special menu. The first item, for sharing, was the Boston Lobster Bisque topped with ebikko (SGD$10.90). While not exceedingly thick or creamy, this soup was strongly infused with the sapid sweetness of lobster, and there was a tinge of spiciness so we did not need to add pepper on our own. There were chunks of lobster swimming around in the soup - fresh, tender pieces of lobster so what more could we ask for?
The Green Curry Pasta with Chicken and Mushroom (SGD$17.90) was from the special menu. It looked plain but trust me, the first bite made it impossible to stop till the plate was empty. The gravy was green curry literally - very tasty with hints of spiciness, and the pasta was so smooth one could slurp it in literally. The mushroom slices were juicy and added a distinctive flavor, as well as the tender chicken slices which added texture to the pasta dish.
Time for desserts! We finally got to try the Vanilla Dirt Cake (SGD$9.50) - a beautiful dessert served in a tiny flower pot which I couldnt believe was edible at first. It was smaller than I had anticipated since this item always appear rather huge in photos on blogs or social media platforms. The pot and flower were not edible, so we dug into the "soil" portion of this dessert - an entire layer of Oreo crumbs that went very well with the thick, rich vanilla ice-cream that formed the base. The vanilla ice-cream was amazing as it did not melt easily, so even as we slowly savoured the dessert, the sweet, aromatic ice-cream was still rather solid.

But for this risotto, is drier and not as creamy, the grains are rather well defined. However, the flavour of the risotto is really good! As risotto is usually cooked with the broth over slow fire for some time where the rice will absorb all the broth so when you taste it, its usually flavourful, basically absorbing all the essence of the dish. Likewise this red wine risotto is awesome as you can really taste the red wine, but personally i will adore it even more if it has been more saucey and creamy. Besides the flavour, you could taste the strips of pork tenderloin too although its not hard, but i think it will be better if thigh meat were used! Of course at Vanilla Cafe & Bar we ought to try their signature vanilla dirt cake ($8.90)! It really finger licking gooood! It served in a cute lil flowering pot and decorated with stalks of flowers and 2 gummy worms. The top layer is like oreo crunch and bottom is frozen vanilla ice cream with oreo crunch in between too. The taste of and vanilla ice cream is kind of creamy actually and at times thought it’s like a combination of vanilla mousse and ice cream. The taste, the texture is all just right!

We ordered the Vanilla Dirt Cake ($9.50) and being a Molten Chocolate Cake fanatic, it's a must try for me if it's ever on the menu and so we ordered! ($11.50).

The Vanilla Dirt Cake was such as innovative dessert that it's serve to you in a Flower Pot with 'dirt' on top which is actually Oreo Crumbs w layer of frozen vanilla ice cream & 2 jelly worms! Overall, it tasted average and similar to Mcflurry but I would prefer Macs. Unfortunately, the Molten Chocolate Cake was a major disappointment. It was completely baked inside thus there wasn't any chocolate flow. My expectation was high as the price is quite similar to Chili's and Chili's has one of the best Molten chocolate cake in Singapore. I've heard that their mains/ all-day breakfast were scrumptious, desserts maybe not for me over here. Overall, nice place to chill w free Wi-Fi (:

vanilla cafe is a super cosy, cute cafe. and you may ask, why 'vanilla cafe'? i got the answer once i stepped into the cafe. it SMELLS of vanilla! how cute is that!!! hehe. so sweet ;) the cuisine here is italian-japanese if i'm not wrong. quite interesting!

i ordered the smoked salmon linguine ($11.90), which turned out to be a creamy pasta >.< eeks. i really cannot take too much of it, will get sick of it super quickly. but surprisingly, this time it wasnt THAT bad. i didnt try to finish it, but it wasnt as gooey-ishly unbearable. haha.

but i loved the desserts though!!! i only tried one, but they all sounded really good!
i can't remember what was the name of the dessert i ordered. probably something like 'brownie with rum & raisin ice cream'. it was really interesting! instead of a slab of brownie served in most restaurants, the brownies here came in bite-sized pieces. they were lightly fried such that the outside was crispy, but the inside was still pretty soft which was good! and they were piping hot, which went perfectly well with the cold ice cream.

yummy end to our meal!
the place was pretty quiet during dinner! surprising, especially since it was friday. but it was nice, cos we didnt feel the need to rush through our meal or anything - i think we were there for 2.5hours?? haha. apparently during lunch it's super crowded though! so maybe it's better to pop by during dinner instead to wind down after a long day.

Looking for new dessert place around town area and found Vanilla Bar & Café. I ordered a Chocolate Molten Cake. Warm dark brown cake was rich and luscious, when I cut into the middle of the dense cake, gooey and hot chocolate slowly flows out. Accompanied by cold smooth and velvety vanilla ice cream. This place is cozy and quiet, would definitely come back again to try the savory dishes.

Craved for some pasta that day, so I ordered the Smoked Salmon Linguine for myself. I totally love how the pasta is served, the sauce isn't too creamy at all. I did not have a hard time trying to finish the whole dish. The smoked salmon was rather fresh with it was not too peppery! Yum.

I really enjoy dining at Vanilla Cafe, next visit would definitely want to try the Dirt Cake!

The cafe is designed like a quaint designer Japanese western cafe, very artsy and modern. The food is also a mixed Japanese-Western style. My colleagues were not very impressed with the portion of the food they received but personally I was quite happy with the yaki udon with chicken katsu and teriyaki sauce that I ordered.

They are also famous for their dessert, especially their dirt cake. The thought put into it makes most female (and male) customers absolutely delighted. The dirt cake is presented in a pot with a fake plant on top of it and sometimes even with gummy worms to make it look like a real plant! And yes, you're to eat the "dirt" which is actually oreos sprinkled vanilla ice cream.

Vanilla is a great place for colleagues get togethers for lunch, birthday celebrations and other office celebrations. But do bear in mind the place is really small and the biggest party it can accommodate is probably 8 persons (unless you book the place?)

I ordered the Vanilla Latte while my friend had the Hazelnut Latte. We were both pretty disappointed with our lattes as they were not even served hot at all. But overall, the taste of the lattes is not that bad, just wish it could be warmer to have a better perk up with the great breakfast dishes.

This Vanilla Old English Breakfast is one of the must-try main dishes if you are there for breakfast or brunch. The wholesome breakfast consists of the wild rocket vegetables topped with sauce, cherry tomatoes, sunny side-up, hash browns, sausages and bacon. It may seem like a normal breakfast meal, but I would say that I love the sausages and though the bacon is not crispy, it is definitely not as salty and as compared to other places.

The Vanilla Club is surprisingly delicious, the wholesome sandwich is filled generously with vegetables, bacon as well as chicken meat.

I would definitely come back to this cafe to try out desserts, especially the Vanilla Dirt Cake!

pumpkin croquette ($5.90++). I like these a lot, though they are not homemade (I asked) but outsourced (from where, I do not know cuz I stopped asking, LOL). Super thin batter (meaning more pumpkin, yay!), crispy on the outside and so gooey soft on the inside~

It’s a good thing that the creamy parmesan prawn linguine ($12.90++) came in a small portion. Otherwise, it’s bound to get too heavy and filling after some time. I found it on the dry side but the prawns were incredibly fresh and crunchy!

Fans of the signature vanilla dirt cake ($8.50++), don’t stone me when I say I didn’t like it at all. Sure, it’s creative (layers of crumbled Oreo “soil” and mascarpone cheese, complete with gummy worms for the visual effect) and it makes such a pretty birthday cake to pose with, but it’s too creamy and monotonous, so much so that I wish there’s some real sponge cake in it to spice things up haha.

Now this, I like. Molten chocolate cake with French vanilla ice cream ($11.50++). It’s not a lava cake (no flow of molten choc detected), more like an upsized version of the mini cakes from 3 Inch Sin with a pudding-like center that’s so rich, dense and moist! Lovely.

We ordered the Vanilla Dirt Cake (8.50+ SGD), we had been eyeing this “Vanilla Pudding with Oreo and a tinge of cream cheese” for a long time. Liang Wei and I were intrigued by the dirt cake because of the way it was presented.

When it was first served, Yew Ann didn’t notice it was our order, he was wondering why the waiter placed a flower pot in the middle of the table. This pretty pot of flower is actually a delightful dessert for cookies and cream lovers. On the top was cookie soil, the bottom was layers of creamy vanilla pudding with a hint of cream cheese flavour, while a bit icy, the balance was there, not being too creamy like 15 Minutes’.

In between these layers of vanilla pudding were layers of crushed oreo cookies that provided a crunch to this dessert. The whole experience feels like one having an enjoyable moment with their oreo cookies. Nice dessert, my only feedback was icy texture, probably because it was served straight out of the fridge.

Our total bill was 9.35 SGD after 10% Service Charge, no sign of GST in the receipt.
