BBQ Stingray Smile Sep 15, 2013

I ordered the smallest portion of the stingray. The stingray here is served on a banana leaf, which is supposed to increase the fragrance of the stingray. The stall owners are very generous with the chilli as you can see, the whole stingray is swimming in a sea of chilli. That said, the chilli is not very spicy, so it is still ok. The stingray meat is very soft and tender. I disliked tough biting meats and this is definitely not the case here. The stingray is very fresh as well and it does not have the fishy taste. I can just eat this with plain rice without other dishes!

Thai olive rice Smile Sep 14, 2013

After trying out the thai stall yesterday, I was quite adventurous and decided to try the other thai stall which I spotted in Tiong Bahru market. This stall also had similar food offerings and I decided to try the Olive fried rice. To be honest, it is my first time trying olive fried rice and I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of the taste. Surprisingly, it was quite tasty. The rice is nicely fried and it is not clumpy. The rice is also not too oily, and it is quite savoury. Maybe it is a thai style, there are also shredded papaya added on top of my rice which I gladly mixed it up into the rice for a different texture. The only thing I would see improved is perhaps the ingredients in the rice could be more as I felt that there is a lot of rice and quite little ingredients.

Phai Thai Smile Sep 14, 2013

My colleagues ordered their lunch from this Thai stall which they heard was quite good, hence I decided to join in their cue and also order my lunch there. I got myself a plate of Phad Thai. It comes with the shredded papaya on top of the phad thai, together with coarse peanuts. The phad thai was quite wet and it is better than I expected. I love the savoury taste of the phad thai, it is a mixture of sweet and salty and sour if you add some lime juice on to the phad thai. In addition, the peanuts add more flavour to the phad thai and the ingredients used to cook the phad thai are also fresh. I haven't eaten a lot of phad thai before but I really love the one sold here. If phad thai is not to your liking, there are other thai dishes which are also quite tasty from the comments of my colleagues.

Curry Rice  Smile Sep 14, 2013

There are quite a few customers at this stall and the food looks quite good which made me join the queue. I ordered four dishes - fried egg, fried chicken, brinjal and cabbage. I also got the uncle to pour a generous amount of curry into my rice. This costs $3.50. The gravy is really tasty - not too salty or not too spicy. I would definitely recommend you have the gravy over your rice. The brinjal is quite oily with a greasy aftertaste so I will not recommend ordering that. The other dishes are quite nice, I especially like the cabbage as it is soft and I could slurp it. I will definitely order the cabbage again on my future visits to this stall.

Delicious Sashimi  Smile Sep 14, 2013

Categories : Japanese | Sushi/Sashimi

I went with my wife to Ichiban Sushi for lunch last Saturday. It was quite crowded when we went even though it was already 1pm. Nonetheless, since there is only two of us, it was easier to get seats and we are seated after 10 minutes. We ordered ala carte instead of the sets as we are more fond of eating the sushis. The lowest priced sushi costs $2.40. We ordered a variety like the unagi sushi ($3.90), Chawanmushi ($3.90) etc etc. I would say the unagi sushi is not really worth the price as the unagi is very small. However, most of the other sushis we got are quite up to standard. In particular, I will recommend "The Peak" sushi which was lobster salad sushi on rice. It is quite novel and we quite enjoyed the taste and presentation of the dish. We also ordered the salmon sashimi which costs $9.50. There are a total of 7 slices and each slice is fresh and sweet. I normally do not like raw food but I thought this was rather nice and something which I will not mind eating again.
