Great meals at a Coffee place Smile Jul 03, 2011

I have never tasted shepherd's pie other than the one my sister in law made. It was minced beef with mashed potatoes. Hence when I saw from the menu that the country pie was mashed potatoes with chicken chunks, I was so determined to have it. The country pie turns out to be very good, the mashed potatoes and the creamy chicken and cheese was made to perfection. The chips that come as a side dish was also good.

The seafood bisque was too "fishy" taste for me, so I do not like it. The sandwich that we ordered used Tikka chicken and we find it too "curry-flavored" and we didn't like it, though the foccacia bread was good. The other dishes such as the pasta and the honey glaxed chicken was just average, nothing special to be commended.

Anyway the variety of the food dishes and the quiet and calm ambience at this outlet will definitely make me visit the restaurant again.

Pretty Steamboat OK Jul 02, 2011

Categories : Shanghainese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hot Pot | Kids-Friendly

Xian De Lai was not new to me and my hubby as we had a few times of steamboat dinner at their Liang Seah Street outlet. The differences in these 2 outlets are the steamboat and as well as the price. Nex outlet's steamboat is individualized whereas the Liang Seah St's is those normal 2-types of soup base steamboat. With such arrangement, that is why Nex's pricing is higher as compared to the other.

The spicy chicken bits appetizer was really good and my mum learnt and cooked that at home for us now. tongue The dishes are ala-carte, so you just order whichever dishes you want for your steamboat. My hubby ordered the mutton slices and the mutton smell was too over-whelming that his whole steamboat has the mutton taste and smell even till the end of the dinner! So be careful, maybe the next time, leave the mutton slices to be last.

The special and unique selling point of this steamboat would goes to the noodles... they are packed in packs and you get to make your own noodles. See my picture uploaded. The prawn noodles are the best among all the flavours.

Have fun!

BBQ chicken wings Smile Jul 02, 2011

BBQ chicken wings

BBQ chicken wings

These BBQ chicken wings are BBQ-ed to the right timing. The skin of the BBQ chicken wings are crispy - like the suckling pig type, which is what the other stalls couldn't win my attention. The seasoning of the chicken wings makes the BBQ chicken wings taste so good. The chilli sauce that is accompanied tastes good as well, as it has a lemon-ly taste that can spice up the chicken wings further more.

Buttons Frozen Yoghurt OK Jul 02, 2011

Plain Flavour with Cornflakes

Plain Flavour with Cornflakes

Recently I'm into frozen yoghurt and I was very pleased that the nearest shopping mall to my residence place has a Frolick outlet.

I tried the $3.90 plain yohgurt with a $1 topping of cornflakes. The frozen plain yogurt was with the right sourness and sweetness, however I find that the texture was not as good as the Yami Yoghurt. Moreover, I prefer to have granola with the frozen yoghurt and Frolick does not have granola as one of the topping variety.

Lor Mee better than Laksa Smile Jul 02, 2011

Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Food Court | Chicken Rice | Noodles

A long queue awaits us at this lor mee and laksa stall on a weekend morning, We ordered both lor mee and laksa at $2.50 each. The lor mee gravy was of the right texture, not too thick, not too "liquid" and has the braised taste that my mum described it as the old taste she had in the past. For a $2.50 bowl of noodle, it was filled with loads of side dishes, it comes with fishcake slices, braised egg, fried dumpling and most delicious were the braised meat slices! The braised meat slices were highly receommended, they were braised to the right texture and they taste so good!

I do not recommend the laksa, as I felt that the gravy was not as nice. It looks and tastes like the coconut milk was not cooked in the right way.

Just go for the lor mee! smile
