Mixed Vegetable Rice  OK Aug 20, 2012
Categories : Coffeeshop

Brought a plate of the mixed vegetable rice for lunch which includes dishes like hong shao chicken, sliced mao gua and the potato with hotdog. Firstly, the hong shao chicken is well marinated, has a light hong shao taste, chicken taste normal with a tender texture. As for the mao gua, it is well cooked and seasoned, not overcooked with a soft texture. Lastly, the diced potato with the hotdog has a common dish sold in the mixed vegetable stall, has a homecooked taste, well cooked and is a good combination. Overall, only a normal mixed vegetable rice stall and price wise is quite reasonable.

Brought a slice of the strawberry sponge cake and the black velvet cake to try.
Firstly, the strawberry sponge cake is made of different layers of sponge cake with strawberry cream spread between the cake. The cake has a soft and moist texture, light vanilla fragrance, the taste of the cream is not too sweet, with small chunk of strawberry in it. As for the black velvet cake, it is made of different layer of chocolate cake with chocolate cream spread in between. The chocolate cake is not too moist but has the same soft texture as the strawberry sponge cake, has a nice chocolate taste. The chocolate cream is also not too sweet and goes well with the cake.

Brought a plate of the mixed vegetable rice and a bowl of the mee rebus for lunch with family members.
The plate of mixed vegetable rice includes the deep fried chicken wing, long bean with beancurd, deep fried potato and the curry chicken. The deep fried chicken wing is well marinate and seasoned, has a crispy skin although it is not warm when eaten. As for the curry chicken, the gravy has a light coconut taste, well seasoned. The chicken is well cooked, soft and tender texture, the chicken meat will comes off very easily with a slight pull. As for the mee rebus, it is quite similiar as compared to other stall and the gravy has the sufficient thickness. Overall, taste wise is quite normal, nothing special and the price is a little too steep.

Brought a plate of the fried oyster as there were several customer queuing for this stall.
The oyster used is quite fresh, large and juicy. As for the starch mixture, not too much of the is added and is well mixed with the egg mixture. The starch and egg mixture is well combined and seasoned, not too salty. Some part of the mixture has a crispy texture, and also has a slight burned on some of the egg. Portion wise is a bit less than expected.
