Mei Ji Fishball Noodles Smile Jun 27, 2012

Queued up for about 5 mins and ordered a bowl of fish ball noodles soup for $3 from this stall.

What I like about this stall is the mix of meat balls and fish ball in the noodles, unlike other stall which serves just fish balls. For the soup, I feel that it's rather bland and flat, and could do with a little more salt or something. Last but not least, the mee pok is cooked just right, and is quite Q.

Overall, I feel that it's a healthier choice food with the addition of lettuce and the portion is just right.

Teochew Porridge Smile Jun 27, 2012

Categories : Teochew | Hawker Centre

This stall is the only teochew porridge stall in the hawker centre and is quite popular with long queues during lunch time.

The good thing about eating teochew porridge is the more people sharing, the more side dishes you can order to try. So I had beancurd skin, scrambled eggs, sweet and sour pork, meat ball, and sardine. All of the dish taste pretty good, but all are a little salty. I would recommend the sweet and sour pork and meat ball from this stall.

In total, I paid $8 for everything, which I feel is a reasonable price.

Heng Heng Ice Kacang OK Jun 27, 2012

Categories : Hawker Centre | Desserts and Cakes

After dinner, I decided to get dessert as usual and saw that the more famous "Jin Jin" dessert stall had a very long queue, so I decided to try out this stall which had no queue.

I paid $1.20 for my ice kacang, which I think is quite cheap. Overall, I think that ice kacang is of average taste. Although the sugar syrup is sweet enough, but there isn't enough to go around all the ice.

This stall's ice kacang by itself is average, but there is a good contrast when put together with "Jin Jin" ice kacang. If I had a choice, I would queue up and gladly pay $0.30 more and go for "Jin Jin" ice kacang.

Shredded Chicken Noodles OK Jun 27, 2012

Categories : Cantonese/Hong Kong | Hawker Centre | Noodles

This stall always had a long queue whenever I visit this hawker centre, but not this time round, so I decided to give it a try.

I ordered the shredded chicken noodles for $2.50. In fact, all their noodles cost only $2.50! The overall taste is slightly above average, and the green chilli is very well marinated, but however, the portion is a little small.

I will come back to this stall again if I need a light meal.

Great Tasting Pumpkin Dishes! Smile Jun 25, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Café

Three wombats cafe cooks a variety of Australian food, which is a little different from mainstream western food in terms of the ingredients used, and it's my first time in a cafe like this.

The place isn't very big, with seating no more than 20, but definitely very cosy with cushions and stuff. Although there is only one staff serving all the customers, she was had no problem coping, with ordering, serving, drink refill and bill payment, fast and efficient.

I went for the set meal with includes a soup of the day, a main course, and a drink.

Mushroom soup is the soup of the day. The soup had a lot of mushroom of different variety and it adds texture to the soup. However, I feel that the soup would be better if it's creamier.

For my main course, I had the Pumpkin ChopChop. It's basically Chicken Chop in brown sauce served with pasta in pumpkin sauce. Chicken chop is quite soft and juicy inside, together with the brown sauce which had a little tinge of herb taste, is delicious. However, what caught my attention is the pasta in pumpkin sauce. I've never tasted any pumpkins (or pumpkin dishes) before, so I have no idea what to expect. Turns out that, the pumpkin sauce is rather bland, slightly salty and sweet, and the consistency is quite thick and makes a good sauce for pasta.

Drink selection is pretty wide for set meal, which includes coffee and Italian soda, which cost $4+ on the menu. I took the peach Italian soda which is a little peach syrup in soda and it gives a little kick in otherwise plain soda.

The set cost a total of $18 with service charge, and which isn't expensive for the quality of food served

I would recommend this cafe for anyone who likes to try something different from usual western food.
