The price you pay for a meal in town is no joke. If you work or live here, you could easily spend $15-$20 in a day for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. Yikes!

Lucky for us all, there's Far East Plaza, which houses some of the cheaper food stalls in town. Susan Chan is one my favourites, and I love their variety of dishes.

One comfort food choice I have is the Beef Stew Rice / "Mui Fan". The portion's pretty huge for $5. It's not too salty, the gravy is just right and the consistency is perfect. Generous toppings of sliced beef, as well as vegetables and eggs.

Best place for choc lava cake Smile Jan 11, 2013

Categories : American | Café | Desserts and Cakes

Everyone walks past Max Brenner Chocolate Bar at Esplanade and everyone knows it, but I think few step in because it is a pretty pricey place for nothing but desserts.

I finally decided to give this place a go during NYE. My friend and I, being dessert queens aka pigs, ordered one dessert each after having a heavy dinner. She had the Chocolate Pizza and I ordered the Melting Chocolate Truffle Heart Cake & Shake.

Before I go on to review the desserts, I have to say I agree with OpenRicer Bern 100% about the chaos going on in the menu. I probably stared at it for 10 minutes before giving up and asking the waitress which one was the choc lava cake. Omg... bad bad bad!
Heavenly

The Chocolate Pizza was freakin' amazing. I'm not a fan of marshmallows but it added a nice, gooey yet light touch to the chocolate-heavy pizza.

I really liked the presentation of the choc lava cake here - I'd really give it an 'A+'! It's like there was something different on each part of the plate, from the container with chocolate sauce (tooooo cute) to the mini choc shake somewhere in the middle. The lava cake itself was incredible. It wasn't too sweet and the consistency of the cake was just right. I had no problem finishing this on my own - which means a lot because I usually have to share such a dessert due to its intense flavour.

I left the place feeling happy and satisfied. Oh, and the smell of chocolate and butter was on my clothes too. IT WAS AWESOME!

I am in love with the chicken wings here at 4 Fingers. I can honestly say I wouldn't struggle to finish a box of 20 pieces all by myself because it's soooo goood.

Was craving for these delicious babies again during the weekend. I wanted a proper meal as it was lunchtime so I ordered the set, complete with rice. Needless to say, it was more than enough and it was very satisfying. I was full for the rest of the afternoon!

Loola's - always fantastic! Smile Jan 11, 2013

I don't care what anyone says about Loola's - I think it's a place where you can get an extraordinary meal and I'm always spoilt for choice when I look at the menu, be it for mains or desserts!

I was here again with my boyfriend and this was his first time trying Loola's.
Awesome!

Awesome!

I ordered the Oxtail Ragout Pasta ($28) which was mainly tagliatelle (a traditional type of pasta), ragout of oxtail and parmesan, while my boyfriend had the Pan Seared Braised Pork Belly ($28) - honey glazed pork belly with lotus root chips (interesting) and bubble & squeak.

The oxtail pasta was super flavourful thanks to the tomato-based sauce with parmesan cheese. It was further enhanced with the tender bits of oxtail, cooked to perfection!

The pork belly was also absolutely fantastic. It was super succulent and it just melted in my mouth. Probably the best pork belly I've ever tasted!
Superb

Superb

For dessert we ordered the Rich Chocolate Cake ($14). I actually wanted Loola's Brownie (one of the best desserts in the house), but my bf isn't a big fan of brownies. Nevertheless, the cake was pretty darn good! It was super fudge-y on the outside and on the inside. Loved it.

Goes without saying, I'll be back for more the next time, and the next, and the next... you get the picture.

Go laksa-siao at Laksania Smile Jan 10, 2013

Great!

Great!

I think it's strange that I like laksa now. It used to be one of my most hated local dishes but I guess tastes and appetites always change eh?

I was craving for laksa so since I was at Serangoon Nex, I decided to head to Laksania. I must admit I was feeling a bit apprehensive about visiting the place since I'd heard mixed reviews about the food, but my worries were uncalled-for as both the food and service were really good!

The laksa came in a big, big bowl and was chock-full of typical laksa ingredients, like cockles and tau pok. The gravy was pretty good too, but I think not say THE BEST out there. Still, I liked it and would probably return. Oh, the service's excellent too!
